Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Hi all

Off to HKG/PEK on Sunday. Currently allocated 12E on QF127/8. Having just checked EF I see that 16A is free. My understanding was that 16A is an emergency exit seat thus has plenty of legroom and is a window seat which doesn't require stepping over your seat buddy to get to the aisle.

As this will be a day time flight I wouldn't mind a window seat given I don't plan to be sleeping (much).

Any thoughts on this seat allocation?

Cheers

I would definitely go 12E. The "Emerald City" mini-cabin is the place to be, and even on a day time flight having to climb over (or around) someone is a pain.

Also I would say that being in 16A significantly increases the chances of being around unruly children and/or screaming babies.

Personally I would go for 12E, the main J cabin is just too big for my liking. Also row 16 is not the emergency exit row on an A380 that one is at row 24, it is on the 747 that 16 is emergency exit.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Thanks both - my mistake re emergency exit. I have only ever sat in 12E and have never turned right on entry to the A380...

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

All J seat on the QF A380 have "plenty of leg room" due to the SkyBed MK II pitch. I see no reason to go for the exit row in preference to any other row in order to get more leg room. There may be other reasons, but the "more leg room" argument does not work for me.

Avoid row 16 at all costs! 16 A not as bad as 16B but avoid.

I meant direct access to the aisle rather than stepping over someone.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Two thirds of the J seats on an A380 have "direct access to the aisle rather than stepping over someone", so I see no reason to allocate one the other one thirds of the seats if that is my seat selection criteria (which it is for me). I would be looking for the most forward E or F seat, as my second criteria is that I like to avoid having others stepping out over me. So I would prefer 12E over 16A.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

I would prefer a window seat if I can get direct access to the aisle - such as on CX in both their old and new config. For that reason I take 62A on BA, 16A on a QF 744, 12A on a new config CX A330 and so on.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

I've been looking at the same J seat selection on the 380, anecdotally others have suggested that the A side seats in the 'Emerald City' mini-cabin may suffer from the majority of cabin crew traffic to the galley using this side.

12E.

Unless you absolutely want a window, the Emerald City cabin is much quieter and there is not that much 'traffic'. At the front is only the self service bar on the left (that hardly anyone uses) and the lounge on the right (that hardly anyone uses).

16A is a bassinet bulkhead row, so more chance of screaming babies.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Agree with 12EF as being the picks, though we were in 11EF (12 unavailable) for MEL-LAX-MEL recently and they were fine also. I recall seeing 11K carefully stepping over a sleeping 11J a couple of times. Of course if a window is paramount then EF are no good. I can't recommend a window seat as I very rarely sit in them, so do not know which are good vs. bad.

and the lounge on the right (that hardly anyone uses).

I sat there with SWMBO watching Big Bang Theory a couple of weeks back with the FA bringing hot chocolate :D Not one other pax came in there.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Having done more than 30 flights on the A380 12E or F without a doubt.

Have a great flight

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

Thanks guys - have stuck with 12E (up and down) - now here's hoping for an OpUp to F ;) Connecting to a PEK flight on KA though so will be a fairly long day.

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

I've had 16K before (same type of scenario to 16A) and it was fine, no issues at all. If you had a baby in 16J on the other hand.............

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

I have had row 12 and 16 before, but I was actually moved out of row 12 once just before take-off to "make room" for another guest.

That was embarrassing and everyone was watching, well it felt like

Row 16 is cough! Toilets, galleys, noise and bassinet position (from memory)

Staff chatting, people lining up for the toilets etc etc

Row 12 is perfect

Again Row 12

Re: 12E or 16A on the A380

It's a lot better than 88D.

I guess it is all subjective as to where you normally sit or not :)

Indeed, but 80A and 80K are great :)

I recommended a friend to select 80A, he didn't like it because it sounded so far back, but when he saw the seat and sat down he couldn't believe it

Not on the flight I was on recently - 3 toddlers crawling around in the "lounge", thought QF could set up a child care area (did not bother me though, it was a day flight and was not noisy)
