The gods have been smiling and my upgrade came through for QF11 to LAX tomorrow for myself and the minister of war and finance.

Have been given the option of 24A/B or 19A/B (I think they have us in 24 as it stands).

I was going to ask for 16J/K at check in as they are blocked, but not allocated according to the premium desk.

I know 24 is a nice cosy little area, but from seatguru it says no window (only the small porthole near the crew seat).

For those that have travelled in any of these seats what pros/cons can you advise of.

As much as I would like to sit in the front section, all those seats are full except some centre seats (I like the window)

Many thanks, and a TR will commence in the coming days

Just had a look at the seat map on the seat guru website which has the whole of row 24 in yellow indicating
"some drawbacks".

Seat Guru comments about these seats in row 24 "Seats 24ABEFJK have slightly less leg room than other business class seats on this plane. This row only has a small porthole window which is difficult to see out of. Passengers often use the space in front of these seats to pass from one side of the aircraft to the other. Rows 24 & 25 have a very private feel".

I have never been on the A380 myself, but given the choice I personally would opt for 19AB now then try and get 16JK on checkin.

Good Stuff; so much for 52J!

Have another look. E/F is telling me (as a WP) 13E/F are available currently - try out "Emerald City" if you can. :p

Note that row 16 now only has single seats available: A/F/J

The only other pairs available now are 18/22 E/F

13E/F were considered, however we decided to stick with 24A/B

I will put together a TR later with the pro's and con's of these seats.

A much better outcome than row 52, and kudos to the cabin crew. Of the past 5-6 trans-pac flights I have done on the A380 in varying travel classes, this was by far the best crew, and it appears most of them were called up on the morning of departure for service...

...oh, and SeatGuru is way off the mark in regards to it's review of these seats, with the exclusion of crossing traffic from aisle to aisle, but that only applies to E & F only

SeatGuru is pretty hit and miss I agree. I disagree with heaps of their reccos and warnings..

If there is a change to get in the front section 11 to 13 grab it! Not a great deal of difference from 16 to the back.

Interesting that you refer to it as that! My NB parents got 13J/K on a recent QF11.

The check-in agent must have thought they looked like nice old folks. If only they knew!:lol::evil:

I also agree rows 11 to 13 the section is more private, you don't have the pax passing your seat to get to galley and the WC as you would in row 16.

As far as I'm aware not too many people use the lounge area. Saw one couple use it and my borther and his wife used it for 15 mins.

Have a great trip

I've sat in 18J/K and they are excellent seats, similar to one of your initial options of 19J/K. Far enough away from the traffic and light/noise of the galley and and toilet area immediately in front of the row 16-22 cabin if you are a light sleeper.

I had wanted to try out 13J/K, due to the smaller cabin, but rows 11-13 were not available.

It's worth continually re-checking seating availabilty right up to arrival at the lounge, and also at the lounge.

What's Emerald City Serfty, besides the movie and the fact it's a nickname for Sydney?

The foremost biz cabin - rows 11-13 - on the QF 388.

I imagine it's known as "emerald city" because it's usually heavily populated with OneWorld emeralds?

A380 J seats

Hey Everyone,

I've recieved the confirmation that my SIN-MEL leg tomorrow has been upgraded to J (woop woop!!). They have put me in 16k at the moment, but seat guru says there are some drawback.

Can anyone let me know if it is worth worrying about or should I move further back?

Cheers,

Nick

Re: A380 J seats

I have had 16 J/K before and it's slightly annoying.

People going to the toilet and cabin crew making noise!

I sleep though anything and easily thought, so really wasn't a problem

16J of course was more annoying than 16K

Change if you can but dont' worry too much!

Re: A380 J seats

I just flew SYD-LAX in 16J and I thought it was fine. Sure there's a little traffic due to toilet location, but all in all I thought I was a great seat.

Cheers

A380 J seats

I prefer being mid cabin on long haul to minimize foot traffic.... As others have pointed out there is more around row 16.

A380 J seats

My favourite seat is 11K. First for service, near lounge. To be honest though there aren't really any bad J seats in 388. Enjoy ;)

"Emerald City" is where it's at IMHO!

Any seat in rows 11, 12 or 13 are great but the middle seats are better as no-one needs to climb over or be climbed over.

In any case - enjoy!

Re: A380 J seats

Thanks for the tips people! I think I might move as I am planning to get some sleep!

3 weeks in Delhi has taken it out of me and the upgrade to J is just so sweet!!! hehehe :D

Re: A380 J seats

Have flown in Seat 13B and lately in 22B (with GF in respective A seat) and although the seats are identical, I find that the meal service is quite slow when seated near the back of the middle cabin.

Rows 16 may be affected by being near the lavatories however there is a curtain there that does minimise the light disturbance, also you must remember that when in the lie flat or super recline seatin positions, the shell seats of seats A / K will likely remove all issues with the lavatory.
