JAL 777-300ER back on Sydney route

For anyone with upcoming JAL F flights.

In a couple of months I'll be flying JAL in First to HND, transiting in Haneda and then taking another JAL flight in Premium Economy (assuming I can't snaffle an upgrade). If I purchase the whisky on the F leg, will I then be able to bring it with me in my carry-on on the second PE leg? Or would I run into problems because it's over 100ml (as per the picture that the above article links to)?

You would if it's transit. You'd have to ask for your bags to be short checked to HND - go landside then recheck in.

I saw a mention of this on FlyerTalk before my HND-SYD flight earlier this month.

I forgot to ask, but certainly it wasn't offered to me - and I was drinking whisky. Not sure if it's available on the 'non premium' F routes

One of the FT guys did mention their crew didn't say anything about it but when asked about buying it, they had it available.

That’s hot on the heels of the October exclusive Mori Iku (?) that @sudoer was able to purchase

Is there a pattern developing here ??
Because of FOMO, I bought a bottle too. ;)

Edit: 4 days later, the ¥6000 charge still hasn't appeared on my credit card even as pending...

Slightly OT, but I note that the Hibiki is not considered as duty-free as tax has already been paid on it. Does this technically mean it falls outside of the 3 bottle duty-free alcohol allowance for Japan?

Probably yes, but if you are even remotely unsure I would declare it and let customs decide.

Alcohol duty is very cheap - a flat 800 yen per litre for whisky - Procedures of Passenger Clearance : Japan Customs

I'll add that as an example, the in-flight shopping magazine mentions the current Ichiro's Malt special is tax-inclusive but should be declared

As an aside when I purchased the Mori Izo flying into Sydney, they took 10% off the price shown in the magazine, presumably removing the Japanese GST component. They also gave me a printed receipt.

The food and beverage is nicer but you're rushing to eat and then sleep. JL52 being a day flight means you can take your time! The SYD-HND menu in August included caviar on the snack menu, unsure if it still does.

If MEL-SYD is cash, yes but YMMV. Go to the international connections desk, ask nicely, and if you get any pushback show them the ^ fineprint on this link:

Update: Didn't work but I knew beforehand anyway as MEL-SYD was a rewards ticket.
They said they should still be able to do it until they found I had booked it using Air NZ airpoints.

Slightly OTT, but funny...
Then the question shifted to one of curiosity. "How did you book Qantas flight using Air NZ airpoints?"

How long does it normally take for the credit card charge to appear? I have been back 11 days now and still no sign of the ¥6000 charge on my credit card. ;)
