Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

A320 VH-VFK did not have a great day on Saturday 12 DEcember 2020. It arrived in SYD five minutes early at 0925 hours on JQJQ811 from BNE, but was then badly delayed on JQ812, with this 1010 hours flight taking off at 1140, arriving in the not-so-bright Sunshine State at 1156, 81 minutes behind the timetable.

Its next flight, JQ815 back down to SYD (the 1115 hours) was airborne at 1244 for arrival at 1454, 64 minutes behind. It then ran JQ814, the 1430 hours, taking off at 1547 for arrival of 1609, 74 late. However due to the significant allowed turnaround, JQ753, the 1710 hours down to LST should arrive only 15 minutes late at 2100 hours.

With the extremely severe storms around BNE, JQ782, the 1815 hours down and across to ADL, is nominally expected to depart at 1845.

JQ820, the 1810 hours SYD up to BNE has been cancelled.

Earlier, JQ721, the 1105 hours SYD - HBA got the flick, as did JQ507, the 0825 houirs SYD - MEL, JQ515 (0930 hours) and additionally on the same route, JQ511 (1245 hours), JQ513 (1320 hours), JQ517 (1350 hours) and JQ529 (1420 hours). This left JQd with eight flights today on the southbound route to MEL: a high cancellation rate of 6/14 or almost 50 per cent.

JQ959 (A320 VH-VQF), the 1550 hours afternoon CNS - SYD, took off at 1611, with arrival expected at 2016, 31 behind.

Monday 14 December 2020 sees JQ502, the 0715 hours MEL - SYD, cancelled.

Much later today, JQ476, the 1750 hours MEL - NTL is to suffer the same fate.

In further on Monday 14 December, JQ515 (0930 hours SYD down to MEL) has been cancelled.

A321 VH-VWY is on JQ432, the 0720 hours MEL - OOL that was in the sky at 0806, with arrival suggested as 0856 hours, 31 late.

Tuesday 15 December 2020 has seen JQ560, the 0700 hours early morning MEL - BNE, cancelled.

JQ510 (1115 hours MEL up to SYD) also got the gong.

JQ505, the 1200 hours 'high noon' Wednesday 16 December 2020 from SYD down to MEL has been cancelled. JQ513, the 1320 hours also from Sydney to Melbourne has similarly got the boot. However there are other JQd flights at around this time so delays for transferees should not be disastrous.

Later, JQ723, the 1535 hours mid afternoon from SYD down to HBA is predicted to depart 50 minutes late.

In more on Wednesday 16 December 2020, JQ772, first of the morning at 0600 hours from MEL across to ADL (A320 VH-VGN) was not airborne until 0721, arriving 67 late at 0757 hours.

This meant the flight back, JQ771, the 0740 hours, was not up up and away until 0849, arriving in the Victorian capital at 1024, 54 minutes behind the timetable. The next flight, JQ707 from MEL down to HBA was a little better, arriving 51 late at 1216 hours while its return, JQ708, the 1205 hours lunchtime from HBA took off at 1312 for arrival back in MEL at 1421, a similar 56 minutes tardy. It was then on JQ970 - a flight that's recently sometimes been cancelled - from MEL across to PER, the 1530 hours that was in the sky at 1553 (due to the long turnaround allowed, it recovered some time), arriving in WA's capital at 1656, 21 late.

JQ506 (0925 hours MEL - SYD) was cancelled, with JQ510, the 1115 hours also getting the gong.

VH-VFP on the 1150 hours MEL - BNE took off at 1247, arriving at 1348, 48 minutes behind.

JQ776 (1655 hours MEL - ADL) was another cancellation.

On Thursday 17 December 2020, JQ474 (early morning 0645 hours from MEL up to rainy NTL), JQ502, JQ510 and JQ516 (0715, 1115 and 1605 hours MEL - SYD), and JQ713 (1320 hours MEL down to HBA) have been cancelled.

Later on 17 December 2020, JQ418, the 1645 hours SYD - OOL (A320 VH-VFJ) did not take off until 2025 this evening, arriving at 2033, 208 minutes late.

This was due to JQ412, the 1325 hours SYD - OOL arriving at 1618, 153 late and its return JQ421, the 1340 hours from OOL arriving back in SYD at 1933 hours, also 208 late. Another aircraft must have failed as a five minute turnaround at OOL (or anywhere) is impossible for an A320. It isn't an underground or suburban train!

On Friday 18 December 2020, JQ502, the 0715 hours MEL to SYD has been cancelled. So has JQ510, the 1115 hours. These two seem to be fairly regular 'no shows'.

JQ713 at 1320 hours (lunchtime) from MEL down to HBA is another to get the boot, while JQ530 at 1900 hours on the same northbound route further adds to this.

Southbound, JQ515 (0930 hours SYD down to MEL) is not running and nor is JQ513 at 1320 hours on the same route.

JQ816 at 1100 hours from SYD north to BNE is another to get the boot. Later, JQ531, the 1635 hours SYD to MEL is another that won't operate.

Sydney is expecting 20 to 60mm of rain today so there could be more cancellations.

JQ719, the 0600 hours first of the morning from SYD down to HBA (A320 VH-VQM) was airborne at 0653 so expected arrival has become 0829 hours, 39 minutes tardy.

JQ819, the mid afternoon 2505 hours from BNE down to SYD is another cancellation.

Continuing with Friday 18 December 2020, JQ511 (1245 hours SYD down to MEL) is a further cancellation, making two within 45 minutes. Insufficient passengers?

Sky News is reporting that a Queensland border closure with NSW is 'coming like a steam train'.

Past behaviour from the Qld Premier suggests it'll occur.

This will cause misery to thousands of air and surface travellers. I also feel sorry for airline staff who'll suddenly have less (or in some cases no) work.

A gross overreaction. Can one 'eliminate' a virus, and is the 'cure' from Qld worse than the 'disease'?

JQ525, second last SYD to MEL at 2050 hours mid evening on Friday 18 December 2020, has been cancelled.

Northbound, JQ520 and JQ530 (the closely spaced 1835 and 1900 hours MEL up to SYD) were also cancelled. The weather in Sydney has been unkind, but many are trying to get back or leave due to fears about a full scale border closure.

Late this evening, JQ426, the 2100 hours SYD up to OOL is not expected to depart until 2220 hours.

JQ502 (0715 hours Saturday 19 December 2020 MEL up to SYD) was cancelled. So is JQ508 at 1040 hours and JQ510 at 1310 hours. JQ522 (1950 hours) and JQ524 (2055 hours) complete the northbound MEL - SYD cancellations.

Southbound from SYD down to MEL, JQ515 (0930 hours), JQ509 (1045), JQ521 (1745), JQ523 (1835) and JQ527 at 2155 tonight are all cancelled.

Also on Saturday, JQ713, the 1320 hours MEL down to HBA is getting the boot.

In more on 19 December 2020, JQ983 (1250 hours lunchtime PER across and up to the Gold Coast, OOL airport) took off at 1410. Arrival for A320 VH-VGV is suggested as 65 minutes tardy at 2030 hours mid evening.

JQ565 (the 1540 hours BNE down to MEL airborne at 1621 with A320 VH-VFO) should arrive at about 1930, half an hour behind.

JQ418 (1645 hours SYD - OOL) is displaying as an expected 50 late in pushback, but it may be even more delayed.

Much later, JQ426, a 2100 hours on the same route should be the same amount late in departing.

In further for Sunday 20 December, JQ772 (first of the morning at 0600 hours from MEL across to ADL) took off at 0645 with A320 VH-VQE, arriving at 0723 hours, 33 minutes tardy.

A320 VH-VFQ on the Sunday 20 December JQ745 (0700 hours morning flight from SYD down to LST) took off exactly an hour later, arriving at 0926 hours, 41 late. The return flight was JQ746, the 0925 hours up up and away at 1010, with arrival likely at 1139 hours, 39 late.

JQ812 (1010 hours SYD - BNE, VH-VFP) was in the sky at 1116 hours with anticipated arrival becoming 1130 hours, 55 down.

The 1430 hours SYD - BNE, JQ814 should depart at 1500 mid afternoon.

With the prohibition on Greater Sydney and Central Coast residents travelling to Victoria from midnight on Sunday, and the requirement for Victorians to be back home from there by midnight on Monday 21 December 2020, JQd is starting to cancel SYD - MEL flights.

On Monday 21, JQ501 (0600 hours ex SYD), JQ507 (0835), JQ509 (1045), JQ511 (1245), JQ531 (1635) and JQ521 (1725 hours) are cancelled from SYD down to MEL.

JQ811, the 0655 hours from BNE down to SYD is another cancellation.

As at 0930 hours on Tuesday 22 December, due to the Victorian, Queensland and other borders slamming shut to Sydneysiders/Central Coasters/Northern Beaches residents/attendees to various degrees, JQd had cancelled 29 of 53 flights due to depart SYD today.

This will be costing Qantas millions as it's to extend into 2021. QFd itself has cancelled 36 of 75 scheduled flights ex SYD today.

The worst hit to revenue and profits comes from the SYD - MEL and SYD - BNE routes being adversely affected as they are usually #1 and #2 in Australian domestic air passenger numbers (and profits!)

In more on Tuesday 22 December 2020, JQ678, the 1335 hours MEL - DRW (A320 VH-VGH) was in the sky at 1437. Suggested arrival is 1711 hours, 46 minutes tardy.

JQ973 (0810 hours morning PER across to MEL in the sky at 0846) has VH-VFI. It should arrive 31 late at 1516 hours.

Later on 22 December 2020, VH-VFI has lost further time as it operates JQ940 from MEL up to CNS, the 1605 hours airborne at 1717 for an expected 1928 hours (63 minutes late) arrival.

The last scheduled domestic flight of the evening, JQ570 (2225 hours MEL - BNE) is expected to depart 50 minutes late.
