Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ832, the 1640 hours MEL - PPP on Wednesday 13 January was airborne at 1730, so should be about 35 late arriving.

The same flight on Friday 15 has VH-VFK. It was airborne at 1735 making for likely arrival at 1915 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule. This has been its only flight thus far today, so not sure why the tardiness.

Saturday 16 January 2021 has seen JQ794 (1030 hours MEL - MCY) depart at 1129, taking off at 1143 AEDT, with A320 VH-VQF arriving at 1244 hours AEST, 59 minutes behind schedule.

JQ707 (A320 VH-VQR, the 1050 hours MEL down to HBA) was in the sky at 1137, arriving at 1246 hours, 41 minutes tardy. The return flight JJQ708 should shortly arrive in MEL at 1447 hours, 42 late. These delays were due to JQ731, the 0700 hours MEL - LST not taking off until 0800 hours.

JQ794 (featured exactly a week ago!) was again delayed on Saturday 23 January 2021, with A320 VH-VQP on this 1030 hours flight airborne at 1130. Arrival was at 1236 hours, 51 minutes late. The aircraft then formed JQ795 from MCY back down to MEL, arriving at 1629, 39 minutes behind schedule. So far, these have been this plane's only sectors today.

A321 VH-VWU started its day at 0700 hours from MEL to LST on JQ731, returning as JQ732 that arrived back in MEL two minutes early at 0948 hours. However its next duty, JQ707 (1050 hours MEL down to HBA) did not see it in the sky until 1200 'high noon' arriving at 1259, 54 minutes past the allotted. The return was (logically) JQ708, the 1245 hours, becoming airborne at 1344 for MEL arrival at 1448, 43 late. Its current flight is JQ442, the 1705 hours MEL - OOL (note the long layover) that was into the sky at 1706 (early) so it should be about 10 early arriving.

JQ664, the morning 0750 hours MEL - AYQ arrived six minutes late at 0926 hours with A320 VH-VGP but the return, JQ665 (the 1000 hours) was not airborne until 1225 hours, arriving MEL at 1623, 133 minutes behind the timteable.

JQ739 (1435 hours mid afternoon MEL down to LST) has been cancelled on Sunday 31 January 2021 during coronavirus.

JQ501 and JQ507 (0600 and 0825 hours SYD down to MEL), JQ406 at 0915 hours SYD - OOL, JQ762 at 0930 hours SYD - ADL, JQ812 at 1000 from SYD up to BNE, JQ672 at 1225 hours from SYD to DRW, JQ814 at 1430 hours SYD - BNE, JQ723 at 1555 from SYD down to HBA, JQ749 at 1725 from SYD to LST and JQ523 at 1835 from SYD down to MEL are other flights that must have got the gong at fairly short notice as they appear as 'cancellations' on Sydney Airport's site.

The 0800 hours BNE - CNS, JQ928 is another one to be chopped, as is JQ815 at 1115 hours BNE down to SYD.

JQ569 (1750 hours BNE - MEL) is also cancelled, as is JQ489 (also at 1750 hours) BNE - NTL.

In more on 31 January 2021, A320 VH-VQR on JQ792, the 0705 hours early morning MEL - MCY did not become airborne until 0834 hours, arriving at 0937, 77 late. The return flight, JQ793, the 0900 hours, took off at 1024 with arrival at 1338 the suggestion, 73 minutes tardy.

Continuing with 31 January, JQ477 (A320 VH-VQR) is the 1630 NTL down to MEL that was in the sky at 1724 hours, so arrival time is estimated as 40 minutes down at 1850.

February is only four days old but it hasn't been a happy start for JQ516 (1620 hours MEL - SYD). On Monday 1 February 2021 and Tuesday 2, it was cancelled. Today it took off at 1712 hours with A320 VH-VFK, arriving at 1901, 76 minutes late on Thursday 4. It had arrived MEL at 1329 hours, 11 minutes early on JQ773 ex ADL so the reason is unclear as to why it was tardy ex Melbourne.

JQ975 (1645 hours PER across to ADL) was cancelled on Tuesday 2 and today (Thursday 4) February, presumably another victim of the snap WA initially five-day lockdown that the WA Premier in election mode has suddenly said will be extended in some form.

JQ513 (Sunday 7 February 2021, the scheduled 1300 hours lunchtime SYD - MEL with A320 VH-VQF) took off at 1407 so arrival at 1523 was 48 minutes tardy. The aircraft had not been used since 1 February until JQ510 today, which was the 1045 hours MEL - SYD airborne at 1201, arriving at 1308 hours, 58 late in Sydney.

Later today, the aircraft had a decent rest before running the 1720 hours MEL - MCY (JQ796) that is on time. This is a micro example of aircraft utilisation falling well below what it would have been on an equivalent Sunday in 2019, and even 2020 when the early warning signs about coronavirus had commenced (the Feds scrapped international air arrivals from mainland China on 1 February 2020).

JQ566 on Sunday 7 February is the 1800 hours MEL - BNE airborne at 1902 with A320 VH-VQL. A 40 minute tardy arrival at 1955 is the expectation.

With the announcement by the SA Government on Wednesday 10 February 2021 that from 2359 hours the SA border would be closed to Melburnians - another overreaction - on Thursday 11, JQ772, the early morning 0610 hours MEL - ADL has got the flick.

JQ970 (1530 hours MEL - PER) is also cancelled.

On Sunday 28 February 2021 - the last 'official' day of summer - JQd was to operate 43 domestic flights ex MEL but 16 have been cancelled, including the first two of the morning at 0600 hours to CNS and HBA, as well as the second last scheduled flight of the evening, JQ778, a 2045 hours across to ADL.

Tuesday 2 March 2021 finds JQd cancelling many flights ex MEL.

These include JQ500/JQ510JQ516/JQ532/JQ524 , the 0605 1045, 1620, 1730 and 2045 hours to SYD; JQ972/JQ970 at 0615 and 1530 hours to PER; JQ709JQ715 to HBA at 1415 hours this afternoon and 1950 tonight; JQ741 at 1930 this evening down to LST and JQ778 to ADL mid evening at 2050 hours.

This leaves JQd today with just six nothbound MEL to SYD flights, three from MEL across to ADL, none to PER, three to HBA and two from MEL to LST.

I didn't keep typical timetables from two years ago (pre-COVID-19) but a guess is that JQd may then have had 10-15 flights on a Tuesday from MEL to SYD.

In more on 2 March, JQ792 (0655 hours early morning MEL - MCY) did not become airborne until 0818 hours, arriving at 0917, 67 late with A320 VH-VQJ. Returning to MEL as JQ793, the plane took off 63 minutes after its timetabled 0900 hours pushback, so predicted arrival has become 1338, 73 minutes behind.

Wednesday 3 March 2021 has JQ972, the 0615 hours early morning MEL - PER cancelled, leaving only a JQd departure at 1530 this afternoon on this important route, plus one each from QFd and VAd.

Tomorrow (Thursday 4), JQ972 has also got the boot. JQ970 from MEL to PER tomorrow at 1530 hours is also not to run, leaving JQd without any flights on the sector on a Friday, another victim of draconian 14 day quarantining requirements imposed on Victorians by the electioneering WA Premier whose increased power has really gone to his head. 'Eliminating the virus' is impossible but 'restricting the ability of Eastern Staters to use airlines to visit' is a lot easier and likely to be (stupidly) rewarded at the ballot box.

JQ473 (Thursday 4 March 2021, the 1205 hours from NTL down to MEL) had A320 VH-VGZ. It was airborne at 1354, arriving at 1518 hours, 93 minutes tardy. It is now running JQ524, the 1520 hours MEL - SYD that was up up and away an hour later, with suggested arrival becoming 1729, 44 behind.

VH-VQW on JQ707, the late morning 1150 hours from MEL down to HBA was in the sky at 1219, arriving at 1343 hours, 38 minutes tardy.

JQ521, the 1725 hours SYD - MEL is expected to arrive 35 minutes behind schedule at 1940 in the early evening.

On Saturday 6 March 2021, JQd has quite a lot of cancellations ex MEL.

JQ972 to PER at 0615 and later, JQ970 at 1530 on the same route got the boot.

So has JQ516, the afternoon 1620 hours up to SYD, along with JQ532 (1730), JQ520 (1830) and JQ524 (2045 hours).

The final JQd 'own metal' flight to SYD was the 1520 hours, up up and away at 1532, although in the QF group, QFd has a 1700 hours and its final one at 1900. Low demand on Saturday afternoons plus many airlines endeavouring to reduce crew 'overnights' at 'outstations' may be the reason, combined with the almost Australia-wide lesser demand due to fear of Premiers suddenly declaring state border(s) are closed.

JQ972 and JQ970, respectively the 0615 and 1530 hours from MEL to PER are again cancelled on Monday 8 March 2021. These flights appear to be scrubbed every day, another casualty of the WA Premier's obsession with border controls despite Melbourne and Victoria having very few cases of coronavirus. All he's doing is costing jobs, though it's more about ensuring he's re-elected next Saturday.

On Saturday 13 March 2021, JQ432 from MEL up to OOL (A320 VH-VFJ, the 1445 hours, was not airborne until 1630 so expected arrival has become 90 minutes late at 1720 hours. JQ437 returning will also be significantly delayed.
