Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

On a very windy Sunday 27 December 2020 late afternoon at MEL - gusting between 43 and 72kmh at various times between 1200 'high noon' and 1800 hours - JQ776, the 1655 hours MEL - ADL (A320 VH-VFO) took off at 1740 so expected arrival is 1820, 35 minutes tardy.

Wednesday 30 December 2020 has seen JQ735, the morning 0935 hours scheduled from MEL down to LST (A320 VH-VGU) airborne at 1047 for arrival at 1137 hours, 57 minutes behind time. Returning, JQ734 (the 1120 hours ex the Northern Tasmanian 'capital' took off exactly an hour later, arriving MEL at 1318, 58 behind. It has a very large siesta until 1855 hours tonight, forming JQ434 to OOL.

Another aircraft that had a long layover but is still running late is VH-VFN, which operated JQ560 from MEL to BNE, the 0700 hours, arriving at 0814, a minute early, but then had a snooze until JQ674, the 1430 hours afternoon BNE - DRW that was not in the sky until 1554. Arrival should be at 1911, 61 behind.

Earlier, A320 VH-VFI was on JQ729, the early morning 06050809, hours from MEL to LST that took off at 0615 hours but did not arrive until 0809, 59 minutes tardy. It held just north of Conara, Tas for a long time, presumably due to fog. The return, JQ730, the 0750 hours, took off at 0857 for MEL arrival at 0950, 55 late, but the plane then did not form a flight until JQ916, the 1550 hours MEL - TSV.

A32 VH-VWQ on JQ944, first of the morning from MEL at 0600 hours on 2020 New Year's Eve did not become airborne until 0644 hours. Arrival at CNS at 0851 hours was 36 minutes behind the timetable. JQ945 returning arrived back in MEL at 1401, also 36 late. The next flight, JQ709 to HBA at a scheduled 1420 hours ex MEL is also tardy.

Colleague VH-VWT also had a late first flight, with JQ430 (0615 hours MEL - OOL) taking off at 0651 for an arrival that was half an hour late at 0745.

JQ207 (mid afternoon 1445 hours from SYD across to AKL) was cancelled.

JQ944 (Saturday 2 January 2021 0600 hours first of the morning MEL to CNS) with A321 VH-VWT did not take off until 0706 hours, so arrival is expected at 0911 hours, 56 minutes tardy. This will delay JQ945, the 0905 hours from CNS back to MEL.

Last night, this aircraft ran between 40 and 77 minutes late on four sectors, the last of which was OOL down to MEL.

JQ700 (0755 hours HBA up to MEL) has A320 VH-VGN airborne at 0838 hours for a suggested 0946 hours, 31 minutes tardy arrival.

Continuing with 2 January 2021, JQ529 (1420 hours SYD down to MEL, A321 VH-VWN) did not become airborne until 1610, arriving at 1721, 86 late. This was its first flight for six days!

JQ954, the 1130 hours late morning flight from SYD up to CNS has been cancelled on Wednesday 6 January 2021. The weather in FNQ continues to be 'monsoonal' although as at 0805 AEST I can't see any rain at Cairns itself from the BOM radar.

A320 VH-VFT is on Wednesday 6 January 2021 operating JQ630 from AVV to SYD (AVV's only scheduled departure for today), the 1835 hours airborne at 1910. Arrival is predicted as 33 late at 2008 mid evening.

On Thursday 7 January 2021 during coronavirus, quite a few JQd flights have been cancelled.

The 0600 hours early morning MEL to HBA, JQ701, got the boot as did what should have been the closely following JQ729 (0605 hours down to LST). So did JQ972 (0610 hours MEL - PER) and a little later, JQ560 (0700 hours MEL up to BNE).

JQ707 (1050 hours MEL down to HBA) was also cancelled. Later, the 1555 hours MEL - BNE, JQ574, suffered the same fate.

JQ660 (SYD to AYQ, the 0935 hours) was another to get the flick.

A320 VH-XJE on JQ794 (1030 hours MEL up to MCY) was airborne at 1120 AEDT, arriving 42 minutes late at 1227 AEST. As a 40 minute timetabled turnaround was the case, the return trip arrived back in MEL at 1616, 26 late. Yesterday, JQ794 arrived MCY half an hour late, but again, the return flight was less late.

More cancellations on Friday 8 January 2021 includeJQ701 (0600 hours MEL - HBA); JQ729 (0605 hours MEL down to LST); JQ564, the 1140 hours MEL up to BNE: JQ713, the 1340 hours MEL - HBA and JQ574, 1555 hours MEL - BNE.

All four JQd flights timetabled to depart SYD at 0600 hours were also given the flick: JQ719 to HBA, JQ400 to OOL, JQ501 to MEL and JQ780 to MCY.

JQ810 (0620 hours SYD -BNE) also has not run. Nor did JQ760 (0640 hours morning flight, SYD across to ADL).

JQ402 at 0700 from SYD to OOL was another to be cancelled, as was JQ503 at the same departure time that should have ordinarily conveyed passengers down to MEL.

The 0710 hours SYD - LST (JQ745) was another to get the flick, as was JQ784 at a scheduled 0805 hours to MCY. JQ507, the 0825 hours SYD - MEL was another to be cancelled.

JQ406 at 0915 hours (SYD - OOL) has also not operated. The 0930 hours from SYD to ADL, JQ762 also got the 'Royal Boot' order as did the identically timed SYD departure of JQ515 to MEL.

At a timetabled pushback of 1000 hours, JQ812 from SYD up to BNE got the flick. So did JQ408 at 1010 from SYD to the Gold Coast.

JQ509 at 1045 hours from SYD to MEL has also been cancelled.

The 1100 late morning from SYD up to the resort island of HTI will also not operate: JQ846, and nor will the 1105 hours SYD - BNE, JQ518 and the 1110 hours SYD - LST, JQ747.

Another to get the shove is JQ988 at 1120 hours (SYD - PER). JQ672 at 1225 hours (SYD - DRW) is also cancelled, as is JQ607, the 1245 hours from SYD down to AVV. JQ511/JQ513 (1245 and 1320 hours SYD down to MEL) are also not operating.

JQ723 (1555 hours SYD down to HBA) is also cancelled, as is JQ531 at 1635 hours to MEL ex SYD.

The 1705 hours SYD - HBA, JQ725 is a further JQd flight not running. Nor is JQ749 at 1725 hours to LST and JQ521 at the same time to MEL. A further flight flicked is JQ768, the 1730 hours from SYD across to ADL.

JQ428 (1755 hours SYD up to OOL) is also cancelled, as is JQ519, the 1805 hours which as its flight number suggests would normally be another Melbourne-bound offering.

JQ820 at 1825 hours from SYD up to BNE, JQ523 to MEL at 1835 hours and JQ424 from SYD to OOL at 1840 are further casualties.

The 2030 hours SYD - CNS, JQ958, is not operating. Nor is JQ824 at 2035 hours from SYD up to BNE, two MEL-bound flights ex SYD (2055/2155 hours) in the shape of JQ525/JQ527 and lastly JQ611 at 2125 hours from SYD to AVV.

By my count this makes an incredible 41 JQd flights cancelled from Sydney Airport today.

It appears that only five JQd flights are operating from SYD today: two to BNK, and one each to ADL, BNE and MEL.

Continuing with 8 January, JQ565 (A320 VH-VGJ, 1525 hours from BNE doiwn to sunny MEL that took off at 1607) looks to be arriving at 1915 in the early evening, half an hour behind.

The CNS to PER - a long journey - JQ565 is far worse, with VH-VFF on this 1240 hours flight taking off at 1517 for a suggested 1751 (131 minutes tardy) arrival.

Nine Group newspapers ('The Age'/'SMH') say this on 8 January about JQ667, the 0630 hours from BNE to AYQ (A320 VH-VQQ) that had arrived at Ayers Rock at 0930 hours, on time:

'...Ms Manison said a Jetstar flight from Brisbane that landed in the town of Yulara, in the Territory's south, about 9.30am had immediately turned around and returned the passengers to Queensland.'

(This was due to the Qld Govt's announcement of a three day Brisbane lockdown).

The aircraft then departed as JQ668, the 1000 hours back to BNE that did not take off until 1158 hours, arriving at 1513 hours mid afternoon, 103 minutes late.

Presumably to pick up stranded passengers in AYQ, the aircraft then ran a special working, JQ7991 from BNE, estimated to arrive at AYQ at 1911.

With the three day 'snap lockdown' in Brisbane, on Saturday 9 January 2021, JQd has cancelled flights from SYD to BNE that had been timetabled to depart at 0620 hours, 1000 and 1100: respectively JQ810, 812 and 816.

JQ701 (0600 hours MEL - HBBA) is again cancelled on Saturday, as is the 0605 hours MEL - LST, JQ729. Another one to get the chop is JQ474, the 0645 hours MEL - NTL.

JQ707 (late morning 1050 hours MEL - HBA) is another cancellation, as is JQ564 at a proposed 1140 hours from MEL up to BNE.

In more on 9 January, JQ438, the 1100 hours MEL - OOL (A320 VH-XSJ) took off at 1205 hours so delayed arrival should be about 1255, 50 minutes tardy.

Much later on Saturday 9 January, JQ570, the 2150 hours from MEL up to BNE is expecte4d to depart 90 minutes late, meaning a well after midnight arrival despite the one hour time difference. This is due to JQ569 from BNE, the scheduled 2110 hours arrival being a projected 87 late.

The 0605 hours early morning JQ772 from MEL to ADL had a very late start on Sunday 10 January 2021 with A320 VH-VFH not airborne until 0751 hours. Arrival was at 0823, 88 minutes tardy.

The return flight, JQ771, arrived in MEL at 1044 hours, 64 minutes behind. The aircraft then operated JQ707/JQ708 MEL - HBA and return, arriving respectively 36 and 44 minutes late. Later today, the aircraft had been meant to operate JQ424/JQ427 from SYD to OOL and return, but these scheduled departures (respectively 1840 and 1940 hours) have been cancelled.

VH-VQF on JQ703, the 0800 hours MEL - HBA was in the sky 45 minutes later, arriving half an hour behind at 0950 hours. JQ702 back from HBA arrived in MEL at 1152, 32 late: the aircraft has not been used since then.

JQ464 (1200 'high noon' MEL - BNK) was airborne at 1258 hours. It arrived at 1445, 45 late with A320 VH-VGZ.

Also on 10 January, JQ528, the 1200 'high noon' MEL - SYD (A321 VH-VWU) took off at 1307, arriving 46 minutes behind at 1416. This meant the return JQ529, the 1420 hours did not become airborne until 1520, with suggested arrival 40 late at 1635 hours. Thus far, these have been this plane's only two flights today so it's not clear what caused the JQ528 tardiness.

11 January 2021 has JQ735, the 0935 hours relatively short hop from MEL down to LST (A320 VH-VGI) not taking off until 1100 hours, so an 1152 hours arrival (72 minutes late) is on the cards. The aircraft arrived MEL last night at 0014 hours, 19 minutes late as JQ943 ex CNS, so not surte what occurred this morning.

VH-VQM is on JQ794, the 1030 hours MEL up to MCY that was in the sky at 1115 for a projected arrival at 1219, 34 behind.
