Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Had a couple of friends on last nights J* flt MEL-DPS slated to dep ~18:00 cancelled and rescheduled this morn ~06:30 - have not heard if they actually left/arrived - gotta luv J* huh?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

No idea mate - I got an SMS from them at 18:38 last night saying flt cancelled - all airport hotels booked so they took taxi to some Essendon motel for night. Their flt did eventually leave at 06:54 this morn and arr DPS at 10:39 DPS time. Flt No. they were on this morn JQ35 if that means anything

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Cruiser Elite, out of interest and because one other AFFer recently asked this: was the taxi at your friends' own expense or did the QF group in the form of JQ cough up with two taxi vouchers (to motel and back) and motel accommodation plus brekky?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Just sent them an SMS:

Did you ask for any compo in way taxi, hotel, meals? If yes what was their answer?

They said if we wanted to get in the queue we can get a piece of paper that explains the offer or look on the net. Basically they would put you up in a hotel of their choice but you had to pay for the taxi and redeem both trips. May take a month to get money. OR you can claim up to $150 in accommodation/taxi by getting on the net. Somebody said that there was a $50 voucher off your next flight as well. And of course comp breakfast.

Make of that what you can.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Cruiser Elite, many thanks for finding this out. AFF member watashi and I both wanted to know this. It is handy information for many of us, even if far from all AFFers fly 'the orange cancer.'

In the circumstances, $150 is a reasonable allowance plus taxis. My memory is that this all started when three or four years into their operation, JQ copped flak from the Australian media for insisting that passengers would NOT be compensated for accommodation in the event of a JQ flight cancellation.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Update: Latest SMS just received below - whilst upset initially they are pretty philosophical now:

For $1035 for two return great value. Rather not fly in a plane that is maybe faulty.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Cruiser Elite, again - fantastic information above. Most interesting and a very good guide for future travellers on what to expect.

I don't know whether this is simply bad luck, but JQ35 from MEL to DPS is again delayed tonight from its usual 1810 departure to 2030.

Passengers might console themselves with how they're not as badly off as those flying from MEL to BKK on JQ29, the 1405 that is delayed some nine hours to a forecast 2300.

Even worse off are those on JQ23 from MEL to NRT is cancelled (this should leave at 2300.)

Perhaps not JQ's best ever night.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ23/JQ24 MEL<>NRT Cancelled both ways yesterday/today.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Today's strong winds in MEL may not have helped although perhaps an aircraft failed.

Whatever the cause, today's JQ546 from MEL took off at 1946, just under four and a half hours late. JQ711 from MEL to HBA is expected to take off at 2249, about three hours late as it is normally due off blocks at 1940. It appears to be formed by JQ531, the 2200 hours arrival that is 25 minutes behind schedule (aircraft A321 VH-VWX), so a 2240 or so departure is impossible from a 2225 arrival. Looks like an after midnight arrival in old Hobart town.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I'm likely just being a real pedant/missing something completely obvious but is there a reason this thread doesn't live in the Jetstar sub-forum?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Nothing wrong or pedantic about that request, perhaps one of the Mods will move this to the Jetstar forums area?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

watashi, tonight's (Sunday 5 October 2014) JQ23, the 2300 hours from MEL to NRT, has been delayed until 0900 on Monday 6 October. The following day, the 0115 scheduled arrival of JQ24 from NRT into MEL is forecast to be delayed by just under six hours to 0705.

This MEL-NRT and return route has quite a few delays yet it is only an 'infant' in how long it has been operating. MEL airport has been able to boast recently of a huge spike in Japanese nationals arriving through the international airport but it was previously a very low monthly figure thanks to (until recently) no direct MEL - Japan flights since QF pulled out all those years ago.

QF21 to NRT is also delayed overnight. Must be an issue at NRT stopping both flights from departing?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Probably due to typhoon Phanfone or (less likely because it's a few days away, allegedly) the approaching Vongfong, JQ16 ex KIX and CNS (787-8 VH-VKB) is due to arrive MEL at 2240 or so tonight. Did it take passengers from a JQ24 that was cancelled?

JQ23 tonight (the 2300 hours flight from MEL to NRT) has got the gong. In its place tomorrow (Wednesday 8 October 2014) at 0900 is JQ1023, also to be operated by the same Dreamliner. Some other airlines would simply operate it as 'XX23D', 'D' for 'delayed' but that must be too simple for the orange cancer.

Is it really necessary to call Jetstar the orange cancer in the context of this discussion?

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Probably again due to typhoon activity in and around Japan, our old friend JQ24 is a predicted 11 hours and 20 minutes late ex KIX and CNS and is due into MEL at 2300. As a consequence, JQ29 passengers from MEL to BKK have spent a pleasant afternoon and evening (as long as they're indoors at the airport, since it's quite chilly for October!) waiting for the normal 1505 hours departure to turn into an 0100 one on Wednesday 15 October 2014.

Naturally this means that JQ30 from BKK to MEL will not arrive the latter until 2055 tomorrow night instead of its timetabled 1105. That arrival may bring to an end these 'knock on' delays as the next flight shown out of Gate 12 at MEL is JQ23 to NRT on Thursday 16 October.

This does show the limitations of once daily or lesser frequency international routes although in fairness to JQ, it is far from the only airline with timetables that lack multiple daily departures on some or all international routes. Not every route can sustain three or four A340 or B777 flights a day and ever where they have for some time, economic downturns can mean changes, such as what SQ is doing with its SIN-MEL and SIN-SYD routes.
