Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion
While parent QF is running on time or close to it northbound between MEL and SYD so far this afternoon, the same cannot be said in what is an all too regular occurrence at JQ.
A lack of gates at MEL may be part of the problem. The delays often seem to start from first flights, indicating that JQ cannot handle the passengers offering at MEL in a timely fashion.
Depending on allowed turnaround times, it can be difficult to regain much if any time during the day, particularly if the weather conditions result in baggage being handled more slowly as one of the many factors that can contribute to ongoing delays.
JQ510, the 1150 from MEL to SYD departed 41 minutes late, arriving SYD 46 minutes late.
JQ532, the closely following 1200 departure was respectively 43 and 45 minutes late.
JQ516, the timetabled 1305 departure got away exactly an hour late.
JQ514, the 1525 departure is expected to depart 55 minutes late.
Later today, JQ526, the 1720 scheduled flight is not expected to leave MEL until 1805.
These delays must be especially irksome for passengers travelling with children in the school holidays. Oh for a super reliable high speed rail lower east coast network as so many other nations have invested in.
