Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Also on wintry 12 July, JQ29, the 1305 hours MEL to BKK was airborne at 1730 with B788 VH-VKJ. Arrival should be at 0029 hours on Wednesday 13, five hours and four minutes late, delaying the returning JQ30.

do you know the reason for the delay by any chance?

No, unfortunately MEL_Traveller, the arrival aircraft that formed JQ29 is not shown by gate number on the Melbourne Airport website. If we did a bit more detective work looking at all JQi's MEL-bound originating international flights from yesterday or early today we might work it out but sometimes these flights can be formed by an aircraft ex minor maintenance. The aircraft operating JQ29 (VH-VKJ) appears to have spent almost 18 hours on the ground in MEL after arriving the terminal at about 0006 this morning ex NRT (JQ24).

The 1700 hours from SYD across to ADL, JQ770, was more or less on time taking off at 1716 but is not arriving until an estimated 1911, 31 minutes late. A320 VH-VGN is the plane.

JQ704 (1900 hours from HBA to MEL) took off more than three hours late at 2231. Arrival of A320 VH-XSJ should occur at approximately 2335 instead of 2015, a very significant delay.

On Wednesday 13 July, JQ212, the 0735 AKL to MEL was punctually airborne at 0748 - perhaps even a bit ahead of the nominal 20 minutes allowed from pushback to being airborne - but has lost time with arrival of A320 VH-VFN likely at 1032, 52 minutes late.

JQ953 (0710 hours CNS down to SYD) took off at 0759. A320 Vh-VFK is arriving at about 1037, 32 minutes late after experiencing a Hunter Valley holding pattern.

Also on 13 July, JQ37, the 1640 afternoon flight from SYD to DPS took off at 1752. B788 VH-VKK should arrive at around the 2216 mark, 71 minutes tardy.

Cutting it fine SYD-curfew wise is the situation for JQ819, the 2040 hours Wednesday 13 July 2016 BNE to SYD with takeoff at 2146 and arrival suggested for about 2303, although of more importance is that touchdown should be at 2258. Hmmm.

JQ28 (2220 hours Wednesday 15 July HKT to SYD) was airborne at 2343; it should arrive on Thursday 14 at approximately 1109 instead of 1005. Plane is B788 VH-VKI.

JQ604, the Thursday 14 July 1240 hours AVV - SYD (A320 VH-VQK) took off at 1333 and should arrive at 1445, 45 minutes tardy.

The 1210 hours from SYD down to MEL, JQ511, took off at 1353 and so should pull in at 1503, 78 minutes late. A320 VH-VQL is the conveyance.

JQ631, the OOL - AVV 1235 hours departure took off at 1326 and should be at the AV terminal at approximately 1533, 43 minutes behind schedule. A320 VH-JQX is the plane.

On Thursday 14 July, JQ789, the 2025 hours from MCY down to SYD was not in the sjky until 2115. VH-VFX, an A320, should shortly arrive 35 minutes late at 2240.

Thank you Hvr.

JQ456, the 0725 hours SYD - BNK is instead expected to depart at 0830 hours on Friday 15 July.

The MEL international delay seems to be a much more major disruption that the Fairfax article suggests.

There are also delays affecting multiple MEL - HKT flights but the various sources (FlightAware, Melbourne Airport, Google among others) have different amended timings for these in at least one case, that of yesterday's mid afternoon flight from MEL.

JQ11 from MEL to OOL and NRT will be departing at about 0845, 80 minutes late.

JQ7, the 1115 hours from MEL to SIN today (15 July) is delayed until 0900 on Saturday 16 July.

This article also comments about how JQ had treated passengers, confirming what we had discussed a couple of pages in the thread. One AFF member expressed scepticism that JQ would pay for overnight accommodation but here is the proof that (at least on occasion) it does:

A Jetstar spokeswoman said the airline had paid accommodation costs for passengers away from home.
All customers had been given $50 flight vouchers and would receive complimentary services on board, she said.

JQi's 'broken plane' woes continue to result in adverse media comment. A Friday 15 July report in the 'Townsville Bulletin' suggests that JQ101/102 (DPS/TSV/DPS) were cancelled on Wednesday 13 July/ Thursday 14 July respectively. Mention is made of accommodation and vouchers.

According to The Jetstar Source website, B788 VH-VKF had problems at DPS on Wednesday 13 July and then ran JQ44 (DPS - MEL) on Thursday 14 - but this does not explain the other JQi delays or cancellations in this post.

On Friday 15 July, flights ex MEL are in chaos. JQ7, the 1115 hours MEL - SIN remains deferred to an expected Saturday 16 July 0900 hours departure, 22 hours late.

JQ17, the 1450 hours to HKT may depart at about midnight, nine hours tardy. JQ1, the 1610 hours to HNL is shown as departing at about 0200 on Saturday, ten hours behind.

With this level of disruption, surely more than one aircraft must be in the hangar for unscheduled repairs.

On Saturday 16 July it looks like there is an extra flight, presumably to convey delayed passengers with JQ1007 from MEL to SIN shown as departing at about 1000.

JQ25, the 1210 hours from CNS to NRT has been cancelled on Saturday.

Later on Saturday, JQ35 (the 1745 hours MEL to DPS) is apparently pushing back at an amended 1930 hours at this stage, while a bit north, JQ37, the 1640 hours SYD to DPS will instead depart at about 1915 that evening.

On Saturday 16 July, JQ503, the 0700 hours SYD - MEL was cancelled. JQ406 (1020 SYD - OOL) is expected to depart half an hour late.

Continuing the chaos with JQi, there is what looks to be an extra - in reality a delayed replacement flight - operating from MEL to DPS, JQ1043, that nominally was supposed to depart Melbourne at 0915 hours on Saturday 16 July but which may now be pushing back at around 0230 hours on Sunday - a 17 hour delay to a replacement flight.

UPDATE: By 1130, the anticipated delay to JQ503 had become a 1330 hours departure ex SYD - three hours late.

JQ511, the 1210 hours SYD - MEL has also been cancelled.

JQ continues to be most unreliable on the SYD - MEL - SYD route, Australia's busiest. The other three major airlines (QF, TT and VA in no particular order) are more reliable, so stick to them. Goodness knows whether low bookings or plane breakdowns are the cause of these JQ cancellations on relatively benign days as far as the weather goes.

JQ784, the 0930 hours Sunday 17 July SYD - MCY (A320 VH-VGV) was still taxiing on runway 34R at 1058, so it will be at least an hour late.

The long JQi delays continue.

On Sunday 17 July 2016, JQ25 from MEL to OOL and NRT departed more than 10 hours late at 1754 (compared to the schedule of 0735 this morning) with it running only to CNS for a 2130 or so arrival this evening. Another plane appears to have departed from CNS today at about 1220, basically on time, for the flight to NRT.

JQ1 from Sunday 17 July appears to be delayed in its MEL departure until about 0845 on Monday 18. Destination is HNL.

The Monday 18 July 2016 JQ35 (1745 hours from MEL to DPS) looks like it will instead depart at around 0830 hours on Tuesday 19 July.

These many delays must be costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in total: insignificant in terms of the QF group's total revenue but exceedingly annoying to JQi passengers with urgent appointments or prebooked holidays. many may not have travel insurance, and for those that do excesses may effectively negate or markedly reduce the dollar amount of any claims for cancellations or other items not reimbursed by JQ.

JQ797, the Sunday 17 July 1730 hours MCY - MEL took off at 1754 (only about 10 minutes late, if that) but is arriving in MEL at about 2032 hours, 32 minutes late (A320 VH-VFN).

Presumably due to the early morning fog in Sydney, JQ501, the first JQ of the morning from SYD to MEL with an 0605 hours timetabled departure on Monday 18 July did not depart until 0644, arriving at 0834, 54 minutes late.

The even earlier scheduled 0600 hours from SYD up to BNE, JQ810 departed 36 minutes late at 0636 with arrival at 0806 being 41 minutes late.

JQ400, the 0610 hours SYD - OOL was cancelled as was JQ784, 0930 hours SYD up to MCY, JQ814, the 1000 SYD - BNE and JQ406, the 1020 hours SYD - OOL.

The 0700 SYD down to AVV, JQ503 departed 69 minutes behind at 0809 with arrival likely at 0946, 71 minutes behind time. The identically timed departure (JQ509) to MEL fared a trifle better, pushing back at 0758 with arrival suggested as 0922 hours, 47 minutes late. It has been windy in MEL this morning with recorded gusts at the airport between 0600 and 0900 hours varying between 47 to 57 kilometres an hour.

0932 hours was the departure time this morning of JQ456, the 0725 hours timetabled SYD to BNK; arrival should be at 0941, 61 late.

JQ404, the 0815 hours SYD - OOL should instead depart at 1015.

JQ605, the second morning departure ex SYD to AVV is delayed by an expected 90 minutes from 0755 to 0925. Arrival is predicted for 1100 instead of 0930.

The 1025 SYD - HTI leisure route flight, JQ846, is instead expected to push back at the exact time of 1152, 87 minutes behind while JQ660 and JQ954, the 1030 hours SYD - AYQ and 1035 YD - CNS respectively should instead both depart at 1155.

JQ509 (1045 SYD down to MEL) has been altered to depart an expected 65 minutes late. The 1055 hours SYD - BNE, JQ824, should instead push back from the terminal at 1220 this afternoon. JQ408, the 1105 SYD - OOL has been delayed until a suggested 1225 in its departure while the 1110 hours JQ721 should instead depart SYD at 1235 for southern capital HBA.

The 1135 hours SYD - MCY, JQ786 is expected to push back 40 minutes late.

The long JQi delays continue.

What happens when you run a fleet hard work limited layovers to allow catch up..

Awaiting the cancellation notice on JQ17 SYD-MEL tomorrow although the arriving aircraft might be JQ28 which presently looks ok

Agree, completely moa999 - it is a trade off between 'enhancing' shareholder value (profits) measured against inconvenience to passengers when 'equipment' is unserviceable. Sadly in the current case with JQi, it appears that multiple aircraft concurrently developed defects.

The Monday 18 July JQ607 (1525 SYD - AVV, A320 VH-VQJ) was airborne at 1739 (about two hours late) and should be on blocks at the Geelong-proximate airfield at about 1911, 131 minutes late.

JQ27, the mid afternoon 1425 hours SYD - HKT was airborne at a late 1616 (B788 VH-VKA) and should arrive at approximately 2131 hours, 46 minutes late, which in terms of minutes of delay is chickenfeed compared with some of the other JQi medium length flights during the past few days.

JQ563 (1020 hours BNE down to MEL on Tuesday 19 July) did not take off until 1321 this afternoon, three hours late. Arrival of A321 V-VWU is suggested as 1527, 157 minutes behind time and the sort of result that encourages FlightStats to give a flight a lower relative timekeeping rating.
