Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Much later on 20 November, the CNS - MEL JQ947 (A320 VH-VGZ) is aiming for a Tuesday 21 MEL arrival at 0031 hours, 41 minutes late.

JQ611, the 2200 hours SYd down to AVV that took off at 2246 (VH-VQM) should arrive at 0010 hours, 35 late.

JQ706 (Tuesday 21 November 2017, the 1200 'high noon' HBA - MEL that was pointing to the sky at 1252) should arrive at 1357 hours, 37 late with 220 seat A321 VH-VWT. This is expected to slightly delay departure of JQ940, the 1440 hours mid afternoon from MEL up to CNS with the suggested revised time about 1450.

Continuing with Tuesday 22 November, JQ520, the 1900 hours early evening MEL up to SYD did not take off until 2040. Suggested arrival is 90 minutes tardy at 2155 tonight with A321 VH-VWT the workhorse. Eagle eyed viewers will note it starred in today's previous post for today.

It is supposedly next on JQ525, the scheduled 2110 hours SYD back down to MEL so that is unlikely to depart until at least 2235 assuming it stays with this A321.

VH-VWT has been late on every flight this afternoon, the rot starting with the HBA - MEL task discussed in the previous post.

Bali's Mt Agung volcano was reported as erupting (in a small way) as at 1700 hours local time on Tuesday 21 November 2017, but so far there has not been any adverse effect on flights to or from DPS or other nearby Indonesian airports.

The 0805 hours MEL - SYD, JQ504, took off at 0837 with A320 VH-VFO. Arrival is estimated at about 1011, 46 late as there is a fair bit of 'traffic' approaching SYD with many aircraft having to hold, a feat that JQ504 undertook over Gunning NSW.

The 0755 hours MEL - OOL, JQ11, was airborne at 0852, so expected arrival has become 0939 hours, 39 late. VH-VKH is the plane.

B788 VH-VKF on the initial leg of JQ25 (0845 hours SYD - CNS that took off at 0927) should arrive at 1145, 40 late.

Thursday 23 November 2017 has JQ811, 0655 hours BNE - SYD (A320 VH-VGI) that did not take off until 0814 looking to arrive at about 1037, 67 late. Unpunctuality of this magnitude early in the day for domestic flights can be difficult to fully recover from if turnarounds are tight all day. With subdued demand, the domestic airlines all have some rosters that contain generous turnarounds.

Also on 23 November, the CNS - MEL JQ945 (A321 VH-VWX) should pull in at roughly 1421 hours, 31 minutes late.

The 1145 hours late morning JQ437 from MEL up to OOL took off at 1238. Arrival is expected at 1553 hours, 48 late for A321 VH-VWT,

JQ17 on 23 November (B788 VH-VKD, the scheduled mid afternoon 1530 hours MEL up to holiday destination HKT that was airborne at 1607) is estimated to arrive in Thailand at 2057 tonight, 37 late.

The 1630 hours MEL - NTL, JQ476 (A320 VH-VQE) was in the sky at 1734. Projected arrival has become 1854, 54 minutes tardy.

With scattered thunderstorms at and around MEL during the early evening of Thursday 23 November 2017, JQ777, the 1735 hours from ADL to MEL that was in the sky at 1757 (A320 VH-XSJ) had a missed approach at MEL, so estimated arrival has become 1950, 25 late. As an aside QR904, an A380 had at least one missed approach and has diverted northwards.

Still on Thursday 23 November, JQ518, the 2035 hours MEL up to SYD (A320 VH-VQG) did not take off until 2148 hours. Touchdown is estimated as a minute after curfew at 2301 tonight so 'the delegate' must be in a good mood.

The DPS - SYD (JQ38, B788 VH-VKB) redeye is arriving on Friday 24 November at 0803, 43 minutes behind schedule.

Stablemate VH-VKG on the DPS - MEL JQ36 is a little later with a 54 minute arrival at 0844 suggested.

JQ771 (0600 hours first of the morning from ADL to MEL that was airborne at 0628 with A320 VH-VFV) should pull in to its designated tarmac space at about 0820 hours, half an hour tardy.

The 0110 hours redeye from DPS across to CNS that was in the sky at 0218 hours (A320 VH-JQL) should arrive at around 0837, 57 minutes late.

Continuing with Friday 24 November, JQ17, the 1530 hours MEL - HKT that took off at 1611 (B788 VH-VKD) looks to be arriving tonight at 2101 hours, 41 minutes behind schedule.

JQ521 is continuing JQ's poor timekeeping on the number one route for passenger traffic in Oz, that from SYD to MEL with this timetabled 1726 hours flight becoming airborne at 1804. Arrival for A321 VH-VWN should be at approximately 1939, 39 late.

During 24 November's mid evening, there is heavy rain in parts of Melbourne. JQ777, the 1735 hours ADL across to MEL that was in the sky at 1808 hours (A320 VH-VQE) should be at its designated tarmac space at 2015 hours, 50 late as it had been held by ATC above Bendigo.

JQ519 (1810 hours SYD - MEL that was in the sky at 1841, about 25 minutes tardy, A320 VH-VGV) should arrive 45 late at 2030 hours. It had been held by ATC above Omeo.

Also on Friday 24 November, A320 VH-VGR on the late afternoon 1645 hours MCY down to MEL JQ797 that was airborne at 1720 had a missed approach at approximately 2051 hours. Consequently arrival has further blown out to 2112, 62 late.

JQ525, 24 November's scheduled 2110 hours SYD - MEL that was airborne at 2235 (A321 VH-VWX) should arrive at 2357 hours, 72 minutes late.

The 1945 hours OOL down to MEL (JQ447, A321 VH-VWT) was in the sky at 2109, so arrival is predicted for 0007 hours, 62 late.

On Monday 27 November by 1030 AEDT, DPS had closed due to ongoing volcanic activity of Mt Agung so all JQ flights are cancelled. The far smaller neighbouring LOK airport is also supposedly closed, though I just observed a Citilink flight that appeared to have taken off at about 1300 hours Sydney time. There is plenty of information on the Internet so I won't duplicate that here.

Suffice to say that JQ (and competitors) will review the situation tonight, so it is very fluid.

This must cost airlines a lot of money as with passenger numbers building at either end - especially so given many schools or universities have broken up for the 2017 scholastic year and so holidays are uppermost in minds - relief flights will have to eventually be operated. This could be challenging as we move into December given it is (for outbound travel from Oz a peak travel month.

Due to Mt Agung, Bali allegedly being about to experience a major eruption, JQ is cancelling 'some' Oz - DPS - Oz flights on Wednesday 29 November but also reviewing the siuation tomorrow.

Media accounts suggest that the outlook for flights resuming is not helpful to stranded passengers.

If it was me I'd be attempting to travel by bus, ferry and train or bus from Bali to Surabaya, then (if no flights available) train to Jakarta, and then whatever routing was available back to Oz by air: via SIN, KUL or MNL are probably the three most likely possibilities. Quite a trip, but with a growing backlog of passengers trying to get to or from DPS one's chances of travelling on a nonstop Oz - DPS or DPS - Oz flight in the next few days must be pretty slim.

On Thursday 30 November, JQ43 (0955 hours MEL - DPS) has been cancelled.

The situation re DPS flights looks to still be fluid (no pun intended.) Flights are showing as 'scheduled' in some cases but whether they depart is an unknown.

All flights to DPS will appear as cancelled, but all flights to DPS on both JQ and QF are operating empty to pick up passengers. You'll see all the return flights currently still scheduled to operate.
