Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ512 (the lunchtime 1240 hours MEL - SYD on Sunday 14 March 2021) was cancelled.
Post automatically merged:

On Monday 15 March, JQ661 (A320 VH-VFL, the 1315 hours lunchtime from AYQ across to SYD) was airborne at 1416 hours with estimated arrival of 1834 being 49 minutes tardy.

Wednesday 17 March 2021 has seen JQ436 (A321 VH-VWN, which has operated this flight on seven of the last eight days, bar Monday 15), the 1225 hours MEL - OOL take off at 1409. Arrival was at 1514, 104 minutes late. This delayed JQ439 that should be back in MEL at 1907, 87 late.

JQ520 (1830 hours MEL - SYD) is expected to depart at 1945 tonight so it will be at least an hour late arriving at the gate.

The early to mid evening 2010 hours MEL - CNS (JQ940) should depart 50 minutes behind time.

On Sunday 21 March, JQ478, the 1810 hours evening MEL - NTL was cancelled. Given the amount of rain in 'the Hunter', the RAAF airfield may well be flooded or otherwise unusable. (QF1598 an hour later also got the gong).

First of the morning JQ501 (0600 hours SYD down to AVV) has got the gong.

With what looks to be the closure of NTL due to the huge amount of rain, JQ474 and JQ476 ex MEL at respectively 0955 and 1500 hours have been cancelled.

In more on 22 March, JQ510 (1045 hours MEL - SYD) is not expected to depart until 1430, so an A320 must have failed.

JQ515 (A320 VH-VFU, the 0925 hours SYD - MEL) took off at 1011, arriving 34 late at 1134 hours.

Tuesday 23 March has had JQ792 (A320 VH-VFU, the 0655 hours MEL up to MCY) taking off at 0727 with arrival 31 minutes late at 0841 hours.

JQ664 (0750 hours MEL across to AYQ) was not airborne until 0856, so its arrival became 1009, 49 minutes behind the timetable. The return flight, JQ665 arrived back in Melbourne at 1450 hours, 40 late with A320 VH-VGF.

Due to the flooded NTL airfield, JQ474/476 at 0955 and 1500 hours ex MEL also got the boot.

Already seen on Sunday 28 March 2021 has been the cancellation of JQ500, first of the morning 0600 hours MEL - SYD while much later, JQ526, the 1845 hours on the same route is also to get the gong.

JQ564's 1200 'high noon' cancellation (MEL - BNE) reduces the number of timetabled noon departures from Melbourne to six. They can't all concurrently be on the runway!

The 0815 hours SYD - MEL (JQ507) was another not to run. JQ519 at 1600 hours southbound balances the cancellations to be two each way. JQ527 from SYD to MEL at 1920 tonight is a third one southbound.

JQ822 (evening flight: 2130 hours SYD - BNE) will also not operate.

In more on 28 March, JQ794 (1300 hours MEL - MCY, A320 VH-VQF) was in the sky at 1350 so arrival became 1455 hours, 45 minutes late.

JQ948, the 2050 hours mid evening MEL - CNS has been cancelled. This one wasn't visible late this morning so perhaps an aircraft is defective.

On Monday 29 March, JQ502 and JQ506 (0730 and 0850 hours MEL - SYD) were cancelled. JQ512 at 1220 hours was another cancellation northbound on the same route.

JQ438 (A320 VH-VQE, the 1105 hours MEL up to OOL that was in the sky at 1158) is estimated to arrive at 1249 hours, 39 minutes late.

The 1200 'high noon' MEL - BNE, JQ564, took off at 1253 with suggested arrival becoming 1351 hours, 46 minutes behind the timetable. This was due to JQ561 (0745 hours ex the Sunshine State's capital) not becoming airborne until 0903, meaning a 58 minute late, 1208 hours arrival.

Tuesday 30 March 2021 sees JQ560 and JQ562, the 0700 and 1115 hours hours MEL - BNE, JQ502 at 0730 hours MEL - SYD, JQ512 at 1220 hours MEL - SYD and JQ520 at 1615 (also MEL - SYD) cancelled.

Tomorrow also sees JQ810 (the early morning 0605 hours SYD - BNE) getting the flick, as will JQ509 at 0950 hours mid morning SYD down to MEL, JQ517 also down to MEL at 1435 ex SYD and JQ525 in the early evening (1820 hours) to MEL as well.

With Victoria shutting its border to Greater Brisbane from 1800 hours on Monday 29 March, WA having announced quarantine for GB arrivals and SA having some restrictions, expect more cancellations.

Continuing with Tuesday 30 March 2021, JQ436, the lunchtime 1225 hours MEL - OOL is expected to depart at 1510, 165 minutes late.

JQ476 (1520 hours mid afternoon MEL - NTL) has got the boot.

The 1500 hours MEL - SYD, JQ518 is another cancellation northbound to add to the three that were already disclosed yesterday for today's program.

On Holy Thursday, 1 April 2021, it's no April Fool's joke that JQ772, the 0610 hours MEL - ADL has been cancelled.

The 0700 hours from SYD down to AVV in Victoria, JQ603, is expected to push back at 0835 hours.

So are JQ560, JQ562 and JQ566 (0700, 1120 and 1625 hours MEL up to BNE) along with JQ502/JQ506/JQ510/JQ518/JQ524/JQ530 (MEL to SYD at 0730, 0850, 1020, 1520, 1815 and 1945.

JQ503 at an early 0630 hours from SYD down to MEL also got the boot. So have JQ509 (0950 hours), JQ515 (1230 hours), JQ519 (1545), JQ523 (1730) and the mid evening JQ529 (2030) and JQ531 at 2155.

JQ816 at 1000 from SYD north to BNE is also not operating, as have JQ824 at 1100 northbound and JQ826 at 1330 hours.

Hard to imagine that two years ago, apart from the occasional failed aircraft or less likely at this time of year, weather-related disruption that there would have been many cancellations on what is probably the second busiest day of the year for our domestic airlines (in normal times).

Easter Sunday is not a typical Sunday: for some states, it's the long weekend marking the start of school holidays but it's also in the middle of two public hols.

On Sunday 4 April 20231, JQd is continuing to cancel quite a few BNE flights. One can surmise that even though restrictions have been lifted, some leisure travellers cancelled prior to the Holy Thursday midday announcement of 'go' by the Queensland Premier - another example of that state's poor handling of the virus. Uncertainty!

JQ560 at 0700 hours from MEL to BNE is one casualty. So is JQ574 at 0910 on the same route. Later, JQ562 at 1120 - note the even 130 minute frequency between flights - is also binned. JQ566 at 1525 hours is another one not to operate.

From SYD to BNE, JQ824/JQ826/JQ820 at (respectively) 1100, 1330 and 1935 are binned.

The 0600 hours from BNE south down to NTL, JQ483 is a further cancellation.

From BNE down to SYD, JQ825 at 1310 hours during lunchtime has been axed. So has JQ827 at 1540 hours mid afternoon and JQ821 at 1720.

So are JQ575 (first of the morning at 0600 hours from BNE down to MEL), plus JQ563 at 0950 hours, JQ567 at 1210, and JQ565 at 1410 mid afternoon on the same southbound route.

Heard from my friend who flew out of MEL on JQ950 that the flight (operated by VH-VWT) diverted to BNE on its way to CNS - not because of medical emergency or weather - but due to blocked toilet... Too many Easter eggs?

Yes, this was the 1500 hours ex MEL up up and away at 1522, so only marginally late on departure. It looks to have diverted when it was a fair way north of Cunnamulla, and to the latter's west. Eventually it flew close to Miles, Qld and then above Caboolture (Brisbane northern suburb) prior to arrival in BNE.

The plane has strangely subsequently gone to AYQ as JQ7991, taking off at 1927 hours - does the four digit flight number mean devoid of passengers, a 'ferry' flight? Arrival is suggested as 2147 hours this evening.

Perhaps your friend is now on JQ938, the 1845 hours BNE - CNS airborne at 1920 with A320 VH-VGO.? It should arrive at 2125 mid evening, 20 late, so naturally a substantial delay for travellers from Melbourne.

A few years ago I was on an MI flight (ex CEB) for SIN. There was one blocked toilet of the three on the A320: the captain decided we could travel. To make a bad pun, I was relieved, but can't recall if queues were a problem on board any more than normal. The lack of memory suggests not.

No she was rebooked on JQ940 departing at 21:45 even though there is a QF flight at 19:50. She asked JQ for meal vouchers but they said food court is already closed so no point giving...

Interesting to know that (if there's another JQd flight with available seats that day), the company "may" not rebook a traveller on QFd. (Of course, that flight might be full).

If there wasn't another JQd flight today, I wonder if the poor lady would have to wait until tomorrow to depart from BNE?

She won't be at her home or accommodation until at least 0030 on Easter Monday.
