It's almost as though if they think you'll never be paying interest they won't approve your application?

Not correct from my experience.

I've never paid interest on a credit card and have had multiple successful applications for Jetstar cards.

Mine is due to be cancelled at the end of August but I'd be keen to keep it if they waive the annual fee. Have racked up plenty of points using this card and haven't seen many others out there with 1:1 for VISA. Has anyone here renewed this card and been able to have the fee waived?

Surely the bonus points you can get from your next application out weigh any value in keeping the card, even with a 1: 1 ratio.

Good point. Does Maq have the standard 12 month waiting period between cards?

Not in all of the times I've applied for either Jetstar or other branded Macquarie cards.

I've had 3 separate Jetstar cards within a 12 months period.

True. I hang on to the cards for too long. I dread the cancellation phone call.

I almost never call. That's a waste of my time. I know no inducements they offer me to stay will be worth the bonus points I get from a new offering.

Send a standard letter instead. Here's a draft:

"In reference to account number xx_xx_xx_

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to direct that you cancel my Macquarie Platinum VISA credit card account with your organisation immediately.

It is my understanding that there is no outstanding account balance at present. If this is incorrect please issue a final statement for the account for any outstanding amount.

You should note that I will no longer be liable for any transactions made on this account and you should therefore act without delay to cancel my account.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Ralph"

Cheers. Will give that a go from now on.

Sometimes they will ring you to confirm that you want to cancel and to try and convince you to stay.

But I find it a most effective tool as this way you keep an accurate record of dates/cards applied for and cancelled. Especially useful in confirming dates card cancelled when waiting out 12 month exclusion periods.

Looks like no current offer. One as good as the thread title would be a good result. Hopefully, one will return.

Mind you, I'd like a VA or SQ sign on bonus offer as a preference.

I was declined for Macquarie HHonours 2 weeks ago - so I'd assume I will similarly be declined for this also?

Any issues with any business/commercial related spend (tax, office equipment, etc)? Can't see any mention of 40k signup bonus - assuming that's gone?

The Jetstar Platinum Card is "dead" .....

From 24/10/2016:
No points on ATO or BPAY;
Annual Fee up from $149 to $169;
Monthly cap of $2500 for 1:1 QF points, 0.5:1 thereafter.
(Official letter in today's mail)

Just received the same notification, not happy as I've just recently joined because of the 1:1 point deal.

I hear you! I've almost had this one for a year and had recently decided to keep it and cancel other Visa/MCs because of the great earn rate.

This is me, before this enhancement I was very happy and considered it a keeper

I'd decided to cancel before next fee is due because of the reduced value of jetstar plus bundles - now I'm flying jetstar a lot less.

This is the extra nail in the coffin.

Yep, got that letter this week as well.

I had already closed my account though because Macquarie (who underwrites Jetstar's cars anyway) offered $99 annual fee for slightly better conditions, which was good before but a no brainer now!
