Jetstar Platinum MasterCard 40k points $69 first year annual fee

Oh thanks, that's good to hear. The agent said she would expedite the approval but still couldn't say how long it would take.

I applied for this one to get the points after cancelling my NAB card but they sent me the regular one with a 5.7k limit (platinum is min $6k). This was surprising considering NAB gave me $15k on the one I just closed.

The limit you had with another bank means nothing. I had $20k with Westpac, closed it and moved to NAB who gave me $6k. I paid the first 3 statements off in full in addition to manual intermediate payments in order to keep using the card, asked for a review of the credit limit and got nowhere.

It's now sitting in a drawer waiting for the final direct debit to pay it off and then it is getting closed with a demand for the annual fee to be refunded.

Amex now have my business in the form of the Platinum Charge card where I don't have to worry about arbitrarily set credit limits.

I applied for the Jetstar Platinum card on 27 May 2016. I based this decision on the following wording on the Qantas website:
To me, this reads that you simply must apply before 31 May and get the application approved (at some point). After calling Macquarie Bank twice, they have said the application must be approved before 31 May 2016. I think this is deceptively worded and I should still be eligible for the bonus points. I am going to wait until tomorrow afternoon and if it's not approved I will withdraw my application. Pretty dissatisfied with their flexibility here.

From memory this is the approach that they have always taken, deceptive or not.

Just to update, I called back at 5 pm on 30 May and the card had been approved. :) This is the first time I've had a MasterCard/Visa that earns 1 point per dollar so I look forward to using it everywhere that doesn't accept Amex.

received an invitation to apply for a limit increase, is that normal? I did it anyway just to see what would happen.

It's normal for most (all?) credit cards assuming you haven't opted out of such invitations. If yuo accepted the increase offered, you will get it in all likelihood.

I am in credit with that card by $300 so I assume everything will be accepted.

Looks like this offer did end as advertised at the end of May. Shame as I was looking to get back on again for the 4th time in 12 months.

Hey Dr Ralph,

Historically, how long has it taken for the points to land? Signed up in mid-April and made the minimum spend within a month but the points still haven't hit?

Usually next statement period after reaching spend at the worst.

Can't work out what their problem is ... THIS TIME ???

Applied for just five grand on one of their cards.

"Sorry" ... in a number of words. The old 'credit history' story ...

Got my VEDA Report back. Seemed pretty clean to me.

Two weeks later, get an email from 'my bank' .... "We'd like to offer you a pre-approved loan of up to $30,000. and a Plat. credit card of $20,000. credit ..."

What make Jetstar cards so hard to get ???

Had no trouble here either although I might keep the card for the decent 1:1 earn rate on Qantas points.

Given that this card is backed by Macquarie, it will be interesting to see if they waive the annual fee like they do with the Woolworths card.

Mine is due to be cancelled at the end of August but I'd be keen to keep it if they waive the annual fee. Have racked up plenty of points using this card and haven't seen many others out there with 1:1 for VISA. Has anyone here renewed this card and been able to have the fee waived?

This card is really difficult to get for some reason. I applied multiple times previously 12 months apart when I was earning significantly more than I am now with far less debt and was denied everytime. Now, I'm in a significantly lower paying job with higher levels of debt and more credit cards and it's approved? It's almost as though if they think you'll never be paying interest they won't approve your application?
