Jetstar turn back; Failed to Get Authorisation

WTB-DPS could be a good one, scoop up Brisbanites and transfer in the others. If the fare was cheap enough I could imagine JQ customers driving up there.
I would have thought Brisbanites would prefer going from MCY or OOL (noting that VA are starting OOL-DPS soon) than WTB - they are closer to where the population is.

Also, given that we're talking about JQ, doing MCY-DPS or OOL-DPS would be easier for JQ than WTB as they already have services from those two airports.
 
So they are claiming not getting approval for a type swap, yet over the last few months they have done dozens of these last minute type changes due to 787 engineering. Looks like someone in the flight planning department forgot to amend its flight plans with the Indo authorities......now this being xmas week, I assume Flight Planning are on a few days off and someone forgot to finish the job.
 
As expected this story is getting a good run in News and 9 Media outlets.

And the ABC evening news. Some interesting comments from affected passengers - ranging from "all I want to get there and have a Bintang" ... to how the FAs said that the turn-around flight path on the screens was a glitch and would be reset 😂 🤷‍♂️

I disagree. This matter is no more than a minor/technical breach, if at all, but enough to trap you if the 'paperwork' is not in order. Indonesia is up to its old tricks again.

It would seem the correct payments have not been made; most public servants in Indonesia get paid at the end of the month, and when that doesn't come through.................?

From my perspective the question is how savvy are the JQ guys and how are they managing this market ? I am sure this has occurred previously without such publicity? Of course very happy to be corrected.
 
I would be curious, though if those travelling on a Plus or MAX fare would get extra status credits for the flight? Perhaps they would receive double status credits (one for the original outbound that was turned back and another for the "replacement" flight)

Plus EU261/APPR if this sector was part of a larger international itinerary.
 
I do recall Virgin had Bali problems along the way also with its Pacific Blue painted aircraft, they had to repaint PB aircraft with ‘Airline of Virgin Blue’ on the side, then we had the Tiger Bali mess.
 
If airlines were like politicians, this highly embarrassing and costly mistake by whoever at JQi should have known the regulations would see the person sacked.

Maybe the 'normal' individual who monitors this was on Christmas holidays, and fewer staff were in its Victoria Parade, Melbourne head office?
What archaic business logic? If the punishment for a mistake in the airline industry were ‘the sack’, then it would lead to hiding of errors, and that will eventually have a tragic outcome.

Flight plans include the aircraft type. They cannot be otherwise, as the same software that produces the pilots navigation plan also produces the flight plan. More likely the department that greases palms weren’t informed of the late need to pay a ‘fine’ for forgetting to cross a ‘t’ on a paper form.

This is exactly as I see it.
 
I don’t think EU261 would be applicable in this case, even as part of a longer itinerary. The flight is not operated by an EU carrier.

But how is this facilitated?. Usually the brown paper bag or an Aldi bag over here, but do the airlines have people over there ready to go with well used rupiah?

...that cost the airline probably into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

So while 'minor' in the sense of 'a paperwork breach', certainly not 'minor' financially, unless one was putting it in the context of annual airline revenues.

Reputational damage: some, with social and mainstream media negativity adding to that.

Uganda is this century easier to enter if a little bit of US paper is submitted along with your passport.
 
I not sure about Bali but I do know Heathrow has to approve the aircraft type. I remember during the London Olympics that some airlines wanted to use larger aircraft due to to demand but requests were often denied perhaps due to terminal limitations and staffing levels. Maybe stands too.

What is it about aircraft swops that are not permitted
