Jetstar, you make puppies cry.....

I not sure JQ flights booked via QF website are more expensive. Remember such bookings include checked luggage. From the limited checks I've made, the price is the same as buying via JQ website with the luggage allowance.

Ok I'll give them that one then! But the more routes they push over to Jetstar and make it possible to book through the QF website the more trouble they are going to run in to.

To put it crudely, this sucks b...s and is YET ANOTHER reason why I will catch a really slow train before I fly Jetstar.

Outrageous that you can book Jetstar flights from the Qantas website and this is the result. Shame, I cry.

A further update to this.

So after I have cooled down and agreed to pay the $50 bucks plus the bundle, here's what I get, starting at 9.30am and finishing at 11.20am today

JQ Call number #1
Sorry sir, you cant do that, you must speak to Qantas, I explained everything to them about the "love" that I have been through. Still no joy, its a QF booking, I must speak to QF.

QF Call #1
Very helpful lady, went off and checked with Alan Joyce and the QF board, basically came back that QF can only sell the starter fare or the MAX fare, happy for me to pay the extra to upgrade to MAX (no thanks) but I should be able to call JQ and they can definitely do it 100%

JQ Call #2
Step 1. No you must speak to QF
Step 2. No you cant change it.
Step 3. yes you can change it but you must upgrade to the new starter fare which is now $300 more Or change it yourself online for free.
(I cant change it online because its a QF booking!!!)
Step 4. they say definitely cant do it ring QF, they will put a note in the booking and advise QF on how to do it.

QF Call #2
Again another very helpful lady (as a side note, and certainly not news to anybody I know; the quality and skill level of QF telesales staff is so far above JQ it is not funny)
She knows exactly what the deal is and has come across this sort of thing before.
Put me on hold while she speaks to a "Senior" about what can be done.
outomce from the call basically nothing, I can upgrade to the higher fares which will earn SC and points, but not a "plus bundle".

So to summarise; bad luck, no Points or SC for you.

It's still rubbish, I'd rather have the plus fare (incidentally costing about the same as the luggage) and no checked luggage.

Had a similar experience. Client booked me on QF website, with one JQi leg, sans bundle. Tried to ring mysrlf to change, wanted $212 for it. I asked client and they said that the QF website gives you bundle. But it didnt.

Needless to say, without seat selection, i ended up in 59E, the back row in the middle. Full flight, so it was hell.

Never, ever again will i fly JQi in Y.

You should never, ever book a combined QF/JQ fare because the systems have been integrated by babboons (and badly paid ones at that). It is result when bean-counters rule the shots over IT and screw staff and customers over for the sake of a 10% saving. Don't start me!

So it was just accountants that determined the nature of the integration and not poor quality coding/project management/design?

Just a couple of points:

1 - I have flown JQ twice and do not intend to do so again
2 - I still don't get why they are "dodgy" - is that meant to mean that they are underhand/devious or poor quality - the latter I will give you but the former is really about the business model - pitch low and make the cream on the extras - people get what they deserve (if they book their own flights and are not screwed by other people's decisions like the OP).

It's one thing to knowingly purchase a JQ & QF flight in the same pnr via the QF website however there is still a large percentage of travellers who don't realise one of the flights is JQ despite it having a JQ flight number & the itinerary saying so. The two most common things people say when they're told it's a JQ flight is "but it's a Qantas itinerary" or "but I booked it on the Qantas website".

Another issue that can happen is when both flights appear on the same eticket it will have the baggage allowance of 20 Kilos against both the JQ & QF flights ie it doesn't have 20 kg for the JQ flight or 1PC (23 kg) for the QF flight.

This can be handy if you have 2 pieces of checked luggage up to 20 kilos total as JQ is the weight system but normally QF would charge you $30.00 for the second piece (if NB or nil status). The downside is if you have a 23 kilo bag on QF, the system will think you're only permitted to have 20 kilos so will charge you $10.00 per kilo you're 'in excess' of your 20 kilos allowance that should technically be 23 kilos.

I booked a flight on J* and then they added the bundle fares so I rang up and wanted to get a bundle deal and was told would have to pay the difference in fares and also a fee and something else.

I had already made WP for the year so I just didn't bother.

Book a flight from SGN to SIN for 4 peoples.

Called up to add plus bundle and was told to either pay a fee of $90 + fare difference or rebook all the ticket.

Nice response. How frustrating.

Had the first leg (the JQ) leg of this flight to Brisbane this morning.

A) Flight full of hungover Formula one fans.
B) Was given an exit row - 25C - this is the third JQ flight in a row I have been given an exit seat. given I was a plain old starter fare I am going to asume that either my SG got me the exit or the bazjillion phone calls about getting the plus bundle added.

Did you book via website or other channel? If website, I don't understand your frustration why not book the bundle when booking the ticket? If via other channel this does seem to be a problem.

There is nothing wrong with Jetstar per se. It offers good value (IMHO), particularly if you have status with Qantas. But booking JQ flights through the Qantas website is to be avoided at all costs as I can see no upside in doing it. The number of disgruntled posters here would seem to back this up.

Other channel = my misses. She didn't know so didn't select it.

Effectively the plus bundle is more than just the SC's and points. You are making the fare more flexible, hence JQ charging the fee to add it.

Would've just been given to you because they needed to fill up the seats there, no other reason. Check-in can't really looking at booking notes and if you called up quite alot, every time there would be noted implemented.
As for being SG, Jetstar couldn't and wouldn't care less, as it's not their program.
It probably would've been just luck!

This inability for either airline to work together is really going to be their downfall. Sure, there are loads who’ll just accept it or not care, but those with loyalty will eventually wise up, and while Jetstar isn’t targeting that group, eventually it’ll be useful to have that group too. Potentially I see this being a much bigger issue if they ever get to Europe… as over there the laws seem to favour customers who are hard done by. They have time to fix it…

As for the original question, I once booked a cheap fare and wanted to upgrade to the Plus bundle, but simply balked at also paying $50 to change to it. The way I saw it, they were making $22, and then they weren’t. Their loss, not mine.

This is the principle failing in the bundle - people usually don't want the fare to be more flexible - they actually want the SC's....or vice-versa. But its all inconveinenty bundled up together.

This is a typical marketing trick similar to what mobile phone carriers do - bundle a whole heap of cough you don't want/need with something that you do, and then aggregate the price of the product so you're paying for XYZ when you actually wanted Z.

Though in this instance, I don't think people are complaining about paying the amount that JQ is charging for the bundle. It's not about paying for XYZ when all you really want is Z. The cost of the plus bundle is reasonable whether ticket flexibility is included or not (particularly on 3K where meals are included as well as QFF pts). The problem as I see it is that as this ticket flexibility is included you can't add the plus bundle later. They could solve this quite simply by allowing people to add in a bundle later that includes everything BUT the flexibility piece.

Totally agree dajop - but would be nice to unbundle all the add-ons so everyone can see and choose what they want, I don't know of any other businesses that deny the customer handing over extra $$$/revenue to the service provider.
