I don't get it. So much wealth in the west. So many FiFo and you have such cough services...Joyce should be aiming up and providing more rather than less services to and from the west. When does his contract expire?
QF needs to get a 457 visa for Tom Horton and kick Joyce out.

is is that Tim Horton the Canadian ( really bad) coffee guru? Or Tim horan the rugby great?

But, they lose less money sitting on the tarmac if the variable costs of operating the flight (crew, ground staff, fuel, QP booze, inflight catering etc) are more than the revenue earnt for the flight.

Qantas could make money on the 737-800 flying PER-SIN-PER but they don't care and it shows.

Maybe QFi problem is they can't see past the AU-LHR & AU-LAX routes; lousy connections into Asia don't help those people who aren't flying onwards to LHR - they want connections into Asia that work.

Instead of looking at the big picture, they seem to have focussed on specific routes of their choosing - why anyone in PER would choose to backtrack through SYD or MEL to get to Asia is mind boggling. Most companies would be looking for the "cheapest" fare, and if adding $$$ to it by using QF (regardless of loyalty), when it comes down to the bottom line, I'm betting those routes are now being frequented out of PER by airlines other than QFi.

Sure there will be those loyal to the red roo, but the numbers are (now) probably a lot less than prior to PER (and ADL) being shafted by QFi.

Would be interesting to compare pre/post shafting numbers by QFi for BIS out of both capitals on direct flights.

Still think that one reason is that Qantas only really market Qantas in Australia. You have 2.5m people in WA, and 5.3m people in Singapore (so the market in SIN outnumbers PER market 2:1) , on a route that is now essentially point to point for QF ( except domestic connections). QF may well be (have been) the carrier of choice in Perth. However in Singapore, of the carriers on the route it probably ranked alongside or even behind Jetstar in brand awareness and brand value. Yes. That is the way it is, if people are going not fly SQ, they will fly the cheapest, but QF also has little visibility here at all.

It may well only be a matter of time until they give up MEL & BNE to SIN and rely on EK codeshares!! (OK, sorry I am trolling now ;)).

Always thought a VA 737 on the PER-SIN route would also do well; especially considering VA fly PER-coughet (which is a longer flight) and seem to do OK.

For our fellow comrades in Qantas fully service states (NSW< QLD< VIC) are you aware how pathetic Qantas is in Perth, you cant fly business class to Bali.

I am not sure what your point is , QF does not offer Y let alone J on their metal to DPS regardless of where you try to catch it.

You can't fly QF business to Bali full stop. SIN or HKG would be a better example compared to DPS.

Perth Sydney hubs. Perth A-380's into LHR and connecting flights to Aus and Asia while SYD A-380's to North and South America with connections to Aus east coast.....I know, such a crazy ridiculous idea this post should be removed!! But at least we can try something to get back into the game. Plus with the latest SC debacle we could fly to LHR ex Perth for more SC than from SYD!

Just to follow on from that, QF probably doesn't care how many pax fly the route, they only care if they themselves can fly the route for a profit. One of the big misconceptions is that businesses should thrive just because there are customers willing to pay for the service. The reality is customers willing to pay for the service is only one part of the equation, the other part is the company needs to be able to deliver the service and make a profit from doing so.

Boohoo typical WA whingers whining about how hard life is and nobody loves them. Sheesh, speak with your wallets or get over it?

It's a business not a charity and if they claim they can't make it work, go elsewhere.

*cue some stupid comment about the West supporting everyone in the East and you're all our savoirs*

Yes and important to remember that whilst there is a big number of passenger flying the route, a big portion of those would be on one of the 4xdaily SQ services, that connect Perth to Europe, Asia and even potentially North America via the combined SQ/MI network, something that QF don't offer (and 3K with all the confusions around connecting and through checking luggage etc, is not really comparable). Of the rest of the players in the market (Tiger, Scoot & Jetstar) its about the lowest fares. With the absence of connections compared to SQ and a higher cost structure compared to the LCCs, it's easy to see why the route was failing for QF (particularly since the DXB reroute).
