Mrsdrron just received her letter from QFF.Changes from 1/7/10-
18 months expiry unless activity.
Family transfers dont count as activity.
Earn points and SCs on Any seat Awards(excluding JQ).
Able to upgrade Any Seat awards.

Interesting...

If you weren't a regular poster, I'd be thinking you're winding us up !

None of these really affect me in a negative way. The "Any seat" awards earning points/SC's is something that people have thought should happen.

As for upgrades on "Any seat" awards, I'm not too sure they should be allowed. But I don't make the rules, and obviously someone has done the sums.

Expect Any Seat awards to increase in price !

I was ½ expecting to see upgrades from "Restricted Economy" at a higher points rate. (Mind you the rates are nearly as much as an award in the first place, so little room to move.)

I wonder what activity will be termed as (ie 50 points from a cafe?)

Might have to make sure I fully drain my QF acct before leaving Aus (now on AA)

As long as there’s no changes to lifetime SC’s and such yet, I’m just beginning my journey!

I can understand how they can justify 18 months, especially considering EDR is probably most peoples most frequent activity these days.

Easy; other airlines have already moved to an 18 month expiry period

These changes don't seem to be particularly bad. Stopping family transfers classifying as activity seems pretty reasonable and 18 month expiry not too onorous if someone is an active member

The changes to any seat awards, for those that use them, seem beneficial and surprised that they would have put a 6 month warning on them

Maintaining activity is easier and easier, with direct earn credit cards, Woolworths Everyday rewards and so on. I don't see a problem for 99.9% of members, and the rest deserve whhat they get.

Except for cyclogenesis.Very hard to get everyday award points in the USA.
But cyclo possibly a car rental or hotel stay to QFF every 18 months,or flick one of your AA flights over to QFF.

I apologise to all QFF members not resident in Oz for leaving you out of my consideration.

I really do not see an issue with 18 month expiry of points. Should not be hard to get a top up to the account with one of the many partners.

The QFF program is one of the best in the world in that respect. Compare QFF to SQKF where even points moved from Amex expire in 3 years regardless of any activity on the account. Swings and roundabouts.

Hope not!. :( I am a couple of months from lifetime Silver and another ~5 years from lifetime Gold. Nothing special but it would be nice to attain these goals.

Really I'm not sure how to feel about these changes. I don't use anyseat awards. and live in Oz so I can get the activity. But it's still a reduction and all reductions lead to more reductions.

Very off topic. Dare I say Dave another example of misintpretation. Not that it's a bad thing. Just that it takes some getting used to and is also what I like about your posts. They are excellent at presenting the reality of situations.

I was going to bring that up, but left it alone. Often I’ll accidentally forget an ‘apostrophe t’. So I can see how the misinterpretation happened.

Is there an online link to this information yet ? Couldn't see anything in the "News" section of the QFF site.

Listed in the very fine print of the letter is www.qantas.com/active

Cheers for that. The fine print is always good to read.

The online version says "Coming Soon" (for the SC/s earnt /Upgrades on Anyseat Rewards) rather than specifying July 1. I wonder when they are introducing it?

I've also noticed that Qantas has also updated their "ineligible fare classes for upgrades" to be more particular about what is not allowed:

* Flight upgrades are subject to capacity controls and availability is limited. Flight upgrades are not available on Award Flights and on domestic and international airfares booked in E, N, O, P, Q, U, X and Z class, which includes some Red e-Deal fares.

Don't think the P, U, X and Z were there before.

I have like 400 points in QFF account, earning from my Woolworths everyday rewards card. The changes doesn't really affect mes, as it would take forever for me to earn points to redeem anything at the moment.

The anyseat award earning points and SC's could be a quite a good thing, depending on what they do with the points required for an anyseat award.

I just looked at some bookings mel-sin-mel in Y. The choice was $1,000 for a cash fare, 60K+$210 for classic award, 60K+$250 for anyseat award. If you get between 7,500-15,000 pts (depending on QF status) for an anyseat award plus 60 status credits, then that seems like the most attractive option, netting the award at 45-52.5K + $250.

I guess it won't be too long where we'll be trying to find the best value status runs ... using a measure of FF points/status credit.

Very interesting, I dismissed anyseat but now will have to re-check!!

It would seem odd to not alter points required for any seat awards within the same notice period, if a change to the award costs is indeed imminent. Perhaps they're doing stuff in phases to soften us up for any such measures in the works which would probably be in the next round of enhancements.
