The single serve packs are very wasteful as contain much more than a single server, can easily do 4 slices from one. Maybe im odd but i prefer to eat local cuisine when travelling.

Me too, but it presumably depends on where you are and what options are available to you. If you had spent a fortnight in the Kyrgyz Republic, for example, you'd jump at anything that had flavour.

Agree, within reason.

If in a non-Western country, breakfast is my meal that I still eat Western. I can't do soup or curry for breakfast. Very happy to do local food for lunch & dinner.

I don't bring any Australian food with me on my travels - it's normally the reverse, I'm bringing food home.
 
I've never taken something like vegemite with me O/S - though American friends demand to try it despite me saying "yeah no. this is a bad idea" lol (so perhaps a couple of those small packets would be helpful in that regard!). Mostly if I take AU food overseas it's to stock up people on tim tams and the like. I'm sure we all do that from time to time. Latest hit in the US of A was Mint Slices. lol - but those are not for my consumption, but more others so kind of a different scenario.

I'm all for eating local wherever - I'm not going to Thailand, for example, to eat pizza and meat pies of course. There are times, when one travels, where there can be comfort in familiar things - if it be that western brekky spread or a simple toast and tea. That's fine too. Can absolutely work in conjunction with sampling all the local stuff too :)

My favorite Vegemite story whilst travelling occurred in Thailand. I was on a river cruise and woke up just before
sunrise. ☀️ Went up to the main deck and the cook was getting ready for breakfast. There was a toaster and the cook, using sign language asked me if I wanted toast.

I did and he cooked it for me. Now, I've found that in Asia toasted bread is bread that has been exposed to minimal warmth for a period of between 0.5 to 1.0 seconds. Nowhere near enough time for the Maillard reaction to occur. I showed the cook how to do toast the Australian way.

I then put Vegemite on it and offered a piece to him. He loved it. So we had a lovely breakfast of toast and Vegemite watching the sunrise on the river.

I always have to have the Turkey 'bacon' for my first breakfast at hotels in Malaysia. Not because I like it but because I then know that I am definitely on holiday.

Can 100% confirm this based on experience at my hotel in Balikpapan this morning.

I felt like some toast (after eating my omelette topped with kway teow noodles! - and a separate plate with plenty of the best tasting pawpaw I’ve had in a while) so pop a slice in the conveyor style toaster and it spits it back at me as barely warmed bread. 😞
I change the element settings to have both top and bottom heating, slow the conveyor right down, make myself a coffee next to the pastry section, then try again with my piece of bread, this time ending with a piece of toast! Huzzah.

I did reset the toaster of course; not wanting to burn the place down and all. It’s set that way because most other breakfasters (?, why not 😊) will stick little buns, cakes and pastries in there to be warmed up!
 
point of order - I haven't seen the party pies in SYD since the pandemic?!! It's always been cake at the usual feeding frenzy time (used to be 3-5pm ish). Maybe ADL still has them?
Not Party pies, but the VA SYD lounge had both Pumpkin and Pork "Sausage Rolls" on Monday. Both very popular.

Especially with one person who managed to stack what looked like an impressive 6 of each on their single plate.
