King Charles Visit 2024

I wonder if it was a relatively last-minute thing?
I mean some of the state premiers are busy doing important stuff, but others are washing their hair that night … and it’s interesting that “busy electioneering” is a reason NOT to meet with The King rather than being a reason to jump on the chance of being seen with him.

Jimmy Rees has made a funny video about this

I think it was planned a long time ago but it was cut short because of the cancer treatment.

First I heard of was this waste of tax payers money visit was this thread and now I am concerned weekend plans to meet friends at Barangaroo for bunch on Sunday may be disrupted by road closures, crowds or protesters. Also have theatre tickets on Tuesday which may also be impacted.

He is not a popular figure among anyone I know, want to know where the irrelevant will be so I can be as far away as possible.

For citizens that may be the case but thousands of active military can travel with just id and a copy of formal orders.
But life is a lot easier with a Green PP.

About 25 years ago the Navy got pretty much everyone on ships to (or likely to be) get an Official PP. But we digress.

He is the King of Australia and the aircraft is part of His Majesty's Royal Australian Airforce. What's the problem with it being used to transport His Majesty?
Ah. Most have no issue. It was more a question of why this was used instead of RAF or BA? And welcome to AFF.

Well, according to Google his mum sold BA in 1987; so flying BA would no longer be like flying in his own private jet and also selling tickets to his own private jet flight because he likes the idea of having others along for company.

Sure. The issue of which airline etc was cleared up earlier stating that this trip is at our expense so it's RAAF. I was more responding to the question above mine which went back to the original question and didn't refer to later responses.

Regardless of the privatisation of BA, IIRC Lizzy used to charter a BA jet for her trips.

lets hope this Royal visit is more auspicious than the first (by Prince Alfred) in 1867. If you have ever wondered why RPA is called that, it was to try and recover from the disastrous security failings of that first visit.
So won't be going to Clontarf on this visit
🤣
