King Charles Visit 2024

Well we just returned from an outing to Sculptures by the Sea via ferry from Circular Quay and couldn't work out why there were thousands of people lined up from the Opera house and snaking around the harbour/quay area for well over a km at 3pm. A quick google informed us they were waiting patiently in the sun for KC and QC who were scheduled to appear on the Opera house forecourt. So it seems there is no lack of interest in the monarchy in Sydney at any rate.
There was certainly more than a few hundred outside parliament building in Canberra.

The RF has german relatives
They're of German origin aren't they? House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha? (No not Gozer!)
Also Bentley is German.
Obviously us Aussies were trying to make him feel welcome & at home!

But seriously, I now have a bone to pick.
Military aircraft just flew overhead here, it's not happened before so must be related to the royal visit ... I saw the 6 Blackhawks (did they get a rename? These ones were painted grey), but something else military & fixed-wing flew overhead but they SPECIFICALLY hid it behind the big gum-tree across the road so I couldn't see it!!!
IT'S NOT FAIR TO FLY FIGHTERS OVER MY HOUSE THEN HIDE THEM BEHIND TREES!!

You’d know if it was a F35. They’re loud…

I saw the dozen or so helicopters (I know laymen’s terms) fly over my apartment in formation. Followed shortly after by the four jets in formation who did a circuit. Nothing like a royal visit to initiate some aircraft pageantry. Well I found it quite uplifting to see this reported first up on the news tonight rather than the cost of living/housing etc. etc. crisis, Gaza war etc., US election, of course these news items all aired straight after to bring me back down to earth, sigh

Ooooh, what were they?
Only knew they were military ‘cos commercial jets are quieter & you don’t hear 717’s flying that close to each other …

Amusing giving tongs (aww what are these things for) to turn sausages on a bbq ( aww what is this device) to a vegetarian! :)

So odd, until I saw this thread I didn’t even know they were visiting Australia!

Thanks AFF for keeping me in the loop!

Certainly no one is talking about it at work & in my social circles…

Hope they have an enjoyable potter around our country 😂.

Son is a vegan. He has vegan sausages cooked on the barbecue. Had some here last week actually. 😂

So we sent the King and Queen off on the BBJ, a day later we sent the PM and cling ons to the same destination on the VIP configured MRTT (KC30), seems a tad tone death given many of the countries attending are expecting significant climate change impacts on their countries!

Does a VIP-configured KC30 involve gold-lined floaties & pool-ponies for swimming around in the hull filled with avgas?!
