Hi,

Has anyone had success with Virgin australia recognising Krisflyer Elite Gold status?

Benefits as stated on Singapore Airlines website:
KrisFlyer Elite Gold members are eligible for the below benefits upon presentation of your membership card.

Access the Virgin Australia lounge when departing on flights operated by Virgin Australia. You may invite one guest, provided they are departing on a Virgin Australia flight on the same day. Please present your membership card and boarding pass to enjoy this privilege.

Increased check in baggage allowance- Virgin Australia stand alone domestic and short haul international services: Check in one complimentary piece up to 32kg.

Increased check in baggage allowance- Virgin Australia stand alone long haul international services: Check in one additional piece of baggage when flying to the USA, or an additional 15kg when flying to other destinations, regardless of your travel class.

Increased baggage allowance- Virgin Australia interline or codeshare itineraries with Singapore Airlines and SilkAir: Singapore Airlines and SilkAir's extra checked-in baggage allowance privileges apply.

Priority airport check-in

Priority boarding

Priority baggage handling

all I wanted to do was priority boarding and check-in. But at the check-in desk, I gave my krisflyer number and he said nothing was available as them being a partner?? 🤯
This was departing Melbourne International

Thanks!

It's hit and miss. Generally for lounge access you should be fine, but for priority check-in it is more of a lottery. I had the same thing happen to me (VA Platinum checking into a SQ flight at LHR), and I ended up waiting for over an hour at the normal Y queue, so it happens both ways.

In pre covid times I’d keep screenshots of the benefits pages on my phone for each partner airline, this is critical for lounge access in smaller ports away from usual Australian travel routes.

I thought about pulling up the page on my phone, especially given the Y queue is really long, but I decided against it when they are overwhelmed with angry customers that were refused boarding due to not meeting VTL requirements for the flight.

Yeah, best not to be argumentative, esp during these times, when there are not a lot of flights coming to Aust/going out with SQ.
You don't want either denied boarding, or have them call AFP to come.
Also don't want to be a "male Karen"/edit: aka Ken, everyone these days has mobile phones, and you will be an "internet sensation" even if you get taken off the flight.

I agree with both of you. Although thankfully I wasn't made to go and queue again. It was more so a question of how to avoid the embarrassment of having to go queue again. I'm not there to make life hard for them 🤣.

When there's an advertised benefit, and you go to use it in good faith you meet the criteria, to be told they dont know what I'm talking about leaves a bad experience. Better off ignoring the benefit and lining up in Y queue. 🤦‍♂️

This one is from the past, but its one of the worst thing that could happen.
Airline staff might call them even at the slightest most raised voice by pax.
This is why I never create a scene, at an airport, no matter if I feel wronged, or am wronged.

Update:

I realised when making the booking I didnt use my KF FF number in my booking.

I've done this now but it's a J return so will be unable to test/verify. I have a feeling that would of had a strong connection to the "computer says no" after entering my KF FF number into their system 🤦‍♂️

Can anyone please clarify that this is a 32kg checked bag in additon to the checked bags that are already included in the fare type? For example: with the Choice/Flex fare I will have 1x23kg bag and 1x32kg bag.

The weight depends on the class booked, I hope this table explains it better:

I've only returned to flying VA quite recently after almost a decade, so I may be very slow or this is a bit off topic.

A couple of weeks ago I added my SQ number to my VA booking. To my surprise, my boarding pass reflected "SQ Platinum" suggesting they recognise Solitaire PPS Club membership at a higher level than KF Gold or equivalent, which I wasn't expecting.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm interested to know how the Platinum vs Gold distinction affects baggage allowance, guest access to lounges and whether this opens up Economy X seating.

Do any of our resident VA experts have anything they can share?

You get an extra baggage allowance, see my post here

Guesting to lounge is still limited to only 1 guest regardless of SQ status and Economy X seating is a benefit not extended to any partners at this stage.

With this recent virgin promo, tempted for velocity gold. However, recently got kris flyer gold. From what I can see the benefits of having both are marginal. Anything I am missing?

For domestic travel there isn't a huge difference.

You still get access to premium boarding, security, check in and baggage. Lounge access plus one guest (although VA gold can bring any guest who doesn't even need to be flying SQ gold's guest must be flying VA same day).

The major differences are lack of premium phone support, no row 7 and beyond seating benefits and lack of fly ahead on Business and Flex fares.

Can I get free check in luggage up to 23kg if I put my Krisflyer Gold membership in my booking?
Looking to buy the cheapest LITE fare.

Is this where you saw it. Doesn't this only apply to Velocity members?

I'm Krisflyer Elite Gold and flying DPS - MEL on VA economy next month. Does this mean I get access to the DPS lounge that VA use?

On paper yes but again if the lounge agent is not aware of this benefit , then it will be difficult to explain them. I have used my VA plat benefit for SQ flights but never had to do the other way round.
