Krisflyer SQ Waitlist

Unfortunately it is either burning more of your points or pay more cash. That is the new reality post Covid.
Unfortunately that is the new reality. No saver awards with SQ or QF for 2 months. Crazy.

It's going to take time to clear out points balances.

Or you book everything at near 365 days in advance

Not possible and yes that's something I need to wear.

Note as I've said many times on here since return to travel from covid. I'm not actively chasing points. I don't want to play this game anymore. It is tiring. It is a waste of time and it is sad to read some of the new disappointing experiences.

Given that you are quite OK travelling in Economy, that is a pretty good attitude. Just pay cash for straight forward ticket, rather than trying to book some fancy awards which you then have to worry everyday about them cancelled because Qantas move one of their flights by 5 minutes.

May I ask the basis for your statement ? Things have changed drastically wrt krisflyer award availability and waitlists. Clearing this year .

SQ, like many airlines, are trying the recover profits from the pandemic while suffering from a shortage of crew to fly the planes as they come out of hibernation.

Simultaneously, they have so many people who have not travelled for up to 2 years with money (and expiring points) willing to pay top dollar to fly almost anywhere.

You cannot really blame the airlines for taking the money while they can and only releasing a minimal amount of award seats in any class, especially to favored destinations. And particularly around the Christmas break, Chinese New Year or during the European summer.

I only found Saver seats to Europe by booking 355 days out and hoping for no changes or cancellations. You have to be prepared to book ridiculously early, especially for seats into or out of Australia. I've already had one flight change but, fortunately it was only because SQ swapped the aircraft type between SQ 217 and SQ 207.

From the various people I’ve seen ask the same question and the current loading and price to Europe on SQ it seems 1- very full already and 2- likely that lots of people are hoping on a waitlist.
So that’s my guess.

Thanks . It used to be a great program With lots of availability.

Ok offer another perspective. My partner is SQ Solitaire and I am offered spousal privileges which many are the same. We both access saver economy awards whenever M class is available for sale. In most years that is usually available as it 4th highest fare. However this year it had been difficult to get these, particularly between Australia and Singapore (and SIN and Europe).

As for waitlists clearing, hahaha, used to have no problems, this year very difficult. And usually only if M comes back into inventory anyway. We’ve had dozens of waitlists that have not cleared. This is for the top publisher tier in the program.

That’s the kind of thing I hear. As with most I’m on a few ff type sites and while some wl are clearing, more are not.
Also FT has implied/believes there has been a few changes on the backend that make then less likely to clear as well, not just worse availability and more demand.

I have heaps of Velocity points that I hope to transfer in the future. My wife and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2024 and I want to take her to Paris. We have flown SQ before but never award tickets. My question is (hoping things improve availability wise) if I book waitlist to and from BNE to CDG and the going clears will they automatically clear the coming home?

Nope. Each way is a seperate flight. But if it's 2024 just start looking now for a year out, learnt he timing of when the seats get released and snap up 2 seats not on WL.

Hi All,

I want to waitlist an economy one way SYD-KUL using miles (saver) but have a confirmed ticket, how do i do this online via the website?

Book the confirmed one, then wait list? How do I do this if possible?

Would like to do the same but in J saver on the one way return KUL-SYD.

Thanks.
K.

Just create multiple bookings is the only way I believe

Thanks. What if I only have the required miles for the confirmed booking?
Book the WL first as they don't deduct the miles until it is confirmed and you accept. After booking the WL flight(s) book the flight that can be confirmed as the miles will be deducted immediately

Thanks for the tip!

Given that SQ only allows me to waitlist flights if I have the points in my account, what happens if I waitlist a flight and then I use my points for another booking? Will the waitlisted booking be cancelled or will they allow me to keep it? Do I then have to rebuild my account balance before the waitlist request comes through (in other words will they offer me the flight and then I can transfer the points into KrisFlyer)?
