Ladies , is a solo female FF who frequents First Lounges a rare breed indeed?

I tend to agree with the observation there aren't many solo female travellers in the business lounges worldwide.

That sort of tells me something and I hope it is not taken as sexist.

Men are comfortable travelling alone.

I was thinking that more men hold positions that require considerably more flying, over women - that's not meant as a sexist remark, more an observation. I'm sure women are happy to travel alone also - but I'd wager that the jobs that have a high number of hours required to fly, are filled by more men than women.

I was a regular F lounge soloist, until I moved to Asia and QF was no longer a suitable choice for flights. Now I barely retain silver, the jostling for your buck in the region by umpteen airlines, means clients are rather loath to pay for an airline that has a reputation (i.e.: I am happy to fly with. ;) ), and some places are only serviced by the big red A - AirAsia!!!

Would be interesting to see the jobs our solo female frequent flyers have and how many of us there are. :D

True. I'm with you there; I really don't get why female titles need to imply marital status.

It's there so in the 1850's a man knew if the woman he just met was available or not. Much like the wearing of engagement / wedding rings is to alert others "this person is off limits". Although that's not a 100% surety either, I'm happily married and yet don't wear my wedding ring as not a fan of jewelery. (Mrs Harvyk does, but she is a fan of jewelery).

To play it safe I tend to either call people by their first name, or if I need to use a title (and don't know which one to use) I'll use the indiscriminate Ms until corrected otherwise.

I wouldn't read too much into it. QF and AA are pretty good at getting the title right, but I'm a man and the Dr often becomes Mr and I couldn't care less...;)
That's because Mr is the only option. I know it's been covered above, but it stinks that women are defined by marital status and men are not. I'm Dr blackcat and that's all anyone needs to know....

And the 'real doctor' thing. I have a doctorate, that makes me a Dr. I was hauled over the coals at passport control leaving Melbourne for having Dr on my boarding pass. Apparently it would confuse the airline should someone require assistance and I shouldn't have had it there. Sorry, but I earned it and Ill damn well use it.

I think that's insane and that you should have reported the Immigration Officer.

This is nonsense anyway...who wants to be rescued by a histopathologist!

I guess the airline is trying to keep it simple. And avoid wasting time if you aren't qualified to deal with medical issues.

Of course you earnt your PhD but is that so relevant when travelling when the real issue is for the airline to know how to quickly call on someone in a medical crisis?

On a plane I'm just First Name Last Name. Whether I'm female, married, widowed, single, or a University graduate or PhD is irrelevant. Isn't it?

Maybe the older I get the simpler I like things to be.

A long time ago I was politely warned that although I was free to use Dr on a boarding pass, I might be called on in a medical emergency, so I don't.
Hate having to be defined by marital status though - that's the main reason I use Dr.

It wasn't the airline that had an issue with it. They usually call for a medical doctor on board anyway. And yes, I will continue to use it, as I'm more than entitled to, just as a married woman is entitled to use Mrs.

Sure. I guess I'm not all that into titles then. :p

In Germany a Medical Doctor with a Phd can use the title Dr Dr xx_. This should not be confused with a speech disfleuncy.

I'm a Ms. I am married, but my surname did not change after marriage (by choice, and not because I married a man with the same surname as my maiden one!). I occasionally get Mrs Katie instead of Ms, and Mr Katie occasionally gets Mr Katie (mostly in hotels that I've booked, and left his name off the reservation, because the hotel systems *always* want to default to any male name as the primary guest).

Maybe I should do a PhD to help clear it all up?? ;) :P

[Much more likely than me getting a medical degree!!!]

Also Prof Prof, Dr Prof and Prof Dr. It's also used in the Netherlands I think.

The ATO also lists Dr and Doctor in their titles list...I never know which one to pick.

I hate having to put a title in front of my name. I'm me, my marital status doesn't define me, so why the need for a title?? (I absolutely loath Ms and think I'm a little too old for Miss. ;) )

And she would be Frau Dr Dr when being addressed.

I think I might choose Baroness next time. Or maybe Group Captain - I am an officer after all. Pity they don't have my rank on the drop down list. ;)
