Ladies , is a solo female FF who frequents First Lounges a rare breed indeed?

I'm a Ms. I am married, but my surname did not change after marriage (by choice, and not because I married a man with the same surname as my maiden one!). I occasionally get Mrs Katie instead of Ms, and Mr Katie occasionally gets Mr Katie (mostly in hotels that I've booked, and left his name off the reservation, because the hotel systems *always* want to default to any male name as the primary guest).

Ah yes. I do all the bookings, so about 90% of them time we get referred to as "ah welcome Mr (or Dr) and Mrs sheep". Wrong on 2 or 3 counts! He's no sheep (or Dr) and I'm no Mrs!

That's because Mr is the only option. I know it's been covered above, but it stinks that women are defined by marital status and men are not. I'm Dr blackcat and that's all anyone needs to know....

And the 'real doctor' thing. I have a doctorate, that makes me a Dr. I was hauled over the coals at passport control leaving Melbourne for having Dr on my boarding pass. Apparently it would confuse the airline should someone require assistance and I shouldn't have had it there. Sorry, but I earned it and Ill damn well use it.

I once was called for medical assistance mid flight. I had to explain that I am not THAT kind of a doctor :-P

Geez Hos, I had no idea you were soooo smart. It's good to know and I will listen more closely to your advice when there is another CBR meet up - maybe when spring has sprung and we can venture out of our burrows.

I love Germany (in general), I'm Prof. Dr. Ing. hossein.au there...

I was thinking that more men hold positions that require considerably more flying, over women - that's not meant as a sexist remark, more an observation. I'm sure women are happy to travel alone also - but I'd wager that the jobs that have a high number of hours required to fly, are filled by more men than women.

Perhaps you are right. My comments were based on my own experiences over the years with friends, associates or work colleagues.

A guy says "I am going to Europe next year."

A female says "I would like to go to Europe is anyone else interested?" And the planning starts from there.

Not trying to stereotype but it was the same for work functions, going out to nightclubs etc. Women prefer to have company wherever they go.

I told my urologist that if he is going to stick his finger you know where we better be on a first name basis

I always introduce myself by my first name - for exactly that reason. My patients know I'm a doctor - they've just walked into my rooms with a sign saying Dr Artemis on them and naming my specialty... Best to be a little approachable for some of the intimate questions/exams.

And really, Buzzard - you should find yourself a female urologist: smaller fingers, and better looking! ;)

Hmmm... I'm female, love travelling and doing other things on my own, in fact it is my default preference. I definitely don't fit into your stereotype.

I came home one night last year and declared "I'm going to Europe in September". I booked the next day. And I went on my own.

Travelling on your own is much more decadent than travelling with someone else. So much discretionary time.

I didn't say all females.

Most females I know, outside of AFF, do not travel on their own.

And in the SYD F lounge yesterday morning there was not a single female on their own....

Likewise! (don't tell Mr Artemis!)

I tell Mr Feezable that he should feel privileged that I allow him (and our children) to share my life. He laughs, but knows that I am only half joking. As an introvert I really value time alone. I love my family and they provide most of my social interactions.

Unfortunately... or fortunately... I am a mum who doesn't get to frequent any lounges nearly so often as I would like. My travel time is quite limited (a couple of short family trips a year) and my solo travel is almost non-existent. Even a long distance drive on my own is something I relish. I read AFF daily or more and long for the time I can occasionally indulge in solo travel once more. I am so thankful that I travelled extensively (and mostly alone) in my 20s.

I did take our 12 year old through Vietnam and Cambodia last year. He was a great travel buddy and it was a great experience. Our 10 year old would like me to take him to Japan for his 'pre-high school' adventure late next year.

And no offence taken JohnK, I feel like I know you from all the posts I read.

I'm guessing you're not an eye doctor!

But I suspect he could make your eyes pop

Any married females on their own

I travel a lot on my own. Just love it. Always make sure I fly via Sydney or Melbourne to use the FLounge. Very happy sitting in the restaurant by myself. However I also like treating friends and family to the FLounge as well.
