Latitude 28 Degrees $8 per month starting September 2024

NAB are the very worst at random card blocking.

Thanks. That's exactly what happened to me - used once, then wouldn't work. First time using it o/s because of the lifting of int'l fees. I didn't bother perusing it while I was away, but when I returned they said they couldn't actually see any attempted use that got blocked (ie no action at all, other than that first transaction), even though it got knocked back about three times before I gave up.

It really is an NAB thing. They have a secret 'paranoia' setting that can't be turned down or off and seemingly no-one has any control over it at all. It's their way of forcing you to call them and go through all the KYC nonsense precisely when it's the least convenient or inexpensive time to do so. There's nothing you can do to prevent it other than use a card not issued by NAB - which, granted is becoming increasingly difficult to do since NAB are the issuers behind by far the widest range of 'white label' card brands in Australia not obviously branded NAB

Sorry to hear that; mine has worked without issue in France (although i'm using it via NFC on the phone rather than the physical card).

You should know for future reference that when you cancel, you're cancelling the account, not individual cards attached to an account. The new monthly fee is on the account, not individual cards. So yes, you can cancel individual cards no problem, but doing so will not in of itself save you from the monthly fee, unless the card you cancel is the last remaining one on your account, in which case the account will get cancelled too. An account cannot exist in isolation. It must have at least one card attached to it, and when you cancel an entire account to avoid the monthly fee, all the cards (main+supps) will all be cancelled at the same time because a card cannot exist without an attaching account.
Three separate accounts, original one with many supps.

Latitude are really doing a bang-up job of pissing off what remains of their customer base by sending out all these "offers" randomly to some users and not others in an undeclared apartheid fashion. Turning a small marketing customer retention problem into a holocaust as their reputation for appalling customer service and discriminatory customer treatment gets dragged ever further through the mud on forums such as this and others. Providing no clarity of their intentions so that speculation rules.

hyperbole aside. You’re not a customer for much longer. There are plenty who are very happy with this bonus of waiving the annual fee!

We still get the $10 gift cards each month we spend $1000… plus all the other advantages. Latitude is actually paying ME to have this card.

Now how often does that happen!? I’m stoked.

Apartheiid? Holocaust? Oh, please...

Sad day cancelled card as original Wizard card holder... different customer service officer that no idea if offer 12 months would be received or if would be automatically charged fee after 17th Sep....

does not reflect my experience.

There's only a couple of groups of people that the know the truth (finance companies and credit ratings agencies) and they don't seem to be sharing.
Fair enough, but my 3 month rule of thumb approach for credit applications did not come out of thin air. There are plenty of credit application criteria that do include the proviso "You haven’t made another application in the last 90 days."

Here's just one example of similar. The 90 days is a time period the credit authorities use as an indicator of someone in possible financial distress.

The reference to 90 days in the link specifically states (my bolding):
You haven’t made another application for Flex in the last 90 days.
It is not asking about any other credit application in that time-frame, just specifically about an application for that same credit product (Westpac Flex Credit Card) in the last 90 days. I am not saying the 3 month recommendation is not valid, but my reading of the information in the link is not justification for it.

I have applied for a lot of cards over the years......have never seen this!

Sure there are exclusion periods, but all that means you can't get bonuses if your an existing or recent customer, eg like 18 months ANZ, Amex rule etc

Here we go, following the loss of the waived foreign currency fees on the Coles Rewards Mastercard I just received this email from Latitude:

Yep I’m going to cancel too once I get home. This is a silly move on behalf of Latitude as it removes its main competitive advantage and relies on consumers not being willing to change. My experience with Wise (visa debit) overseas has been very positive.

Alas, there’s no shortage of fee free Debit products out there (all very easy to get online) but having a CC for hotel and rental car authorisations is essential for the frequent OS traveller.

Another recent example in the NL. They’ve rolled out contactless payment on trams and trains (you no longer need to buy an OV-Chipkaart). Using 28° (or any other CC), they do an authorisation on the CC and a few days later that settles as a charge for the total travel for the day.

Using my ING DC (to get some small monthly taps in), they took my cash at the time of the authorisation and then again when it settled. Eventually the authorisation drops out and the extra cash is refunded. Fortunately small amounts, but this can happen at hotels etc with big $$$ amounts…

A DC is your money. A CC is their money. Guess which one gets resolved faster!
If you travel to a few hotels in the week, they all have their deposit for a week. Quickly adds up and locks out some of your CC limit.
I'm a lucky one with the fee waiver. Will be keeping it for another year.
