Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Now if they had LTP then I would be concentrating on obtaining that and remaining a loyal and valued customer of Qantas.

I would seriously struggle to justify sending another (say) 14,000 status credits QF's way. In any case, I think they've made it pretty clear they don't intend to offer it.

If they did LTP I think it would require a lot more than double LTG in terms of SCs but sadly they have no intention of offering it.

If QF LT Plat was set at 28000 SCs (which I think is fair), it would take me another 12 years to reach that at my current level of flying....and I spend about 20K per year with QF....so QF are crazy to not offer it...and when I reach 28K SCs I probably won't have more than 10-15 years of flying left in me :(

My guess is they're hoping that you'll keep spending with them anyway out of inertia or whatever. I'm sure a lot of less savvy people do.

If QF feel LTG is a huge cost burden on them (and I can totally see why) then why not

start each LTG member off with 600SC/year. Therefore, you'd need 800 to make WP again (rather than 1400 as if you started from scratch).. those that want WP make it a bit easier to attain and thus give QF revenue. If you don't give QF revenue (ie: not fly, or not fly them).

Thus there is incentive to fly with QF to a) use the Gold benefits and b) have a reduced earn to WP (and there's your "gift" for being LTG - cheaper Plat)

Then again I'd introduce LTP at 28000 with a similar idea.

I think that would be good, but to get that deal I think they should require most of the SCs to be on QF metal say 600 of the 800. Still, I think this is wishful thinking.

SG requires 700 SC; to obtain LTS requires 7000 SC. WP requires 1400 to obtain; and LTG requires 14000 SC. P1 requires 3600 to obtain. So I think 36000 SC would be more likely in the unlikely event LTP was offered. Lifetime status is meant to be something less than what you're accustomed to or something that's taken you a lifetime of flying to obtain. LTP would provide very large benefits so the barriers to obtain it should be high. However if QF ditches its FLounges then LTP may be needed as a carrot to encourage fliers to still strive for WP status.

If that were announced, my LFWP card would be in the mail ...

Great idea Richard! The idea from QFF is to try to find a way for the revenue to keep flowing but in order to get that they need to provide some kind of incentive to PAX that still provides QF with positive position overall.

The great benefit I'll get when LTG is ability to minimise my spend while maximising cost to QF (using low cost OW fares but lounge costs charged to QF).

Just strange QF doesn't try to keep key motivators they get PAX sending highest revenue to QF. On some level I want them to see LTG members as positive to revenue so that they continue the scheme.

How about life time Plat with no OW Emerald but access to QFF First lounges and PLT status bonuses on QF only?

Doesn't everyone (here) switch to BAEC once they get to LTG in order to have a chance at LTP? Opportunity loss for QF.

Like Ansett, April next year will have me at LTG at the ripe old age of 34. I intend to maximise it's value over the remaining 40+ years of my flying life. It will be a cost to QF and I will most likely spread my spend among OW carriers, and probably send some of my J spend to other carriers, as you get the benefits anyway when in the pointy end. Saying that I will still almost exclusively fly QF domestically, so I guess they get what they want in the end. Golden handcuffs continue...

And then you'd have absolutely no incentive to remain loyal
Possibly ...

... but I don't have that much incentive anyway - I earn WP because it's better than SG, but generally these days with minimal QF flying.

Given the quarter century you have on me I perceive it's getting a bit late for me to start.

achieved Lifetime Gold on Friday nights flight BNE to CNS ... a flight or two earlier than i expected...seems a couple of 50% bonus SC offers posted and helped tip me over the 14000
