Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Okay just passed 13,500 lifetime SCs, only 475 to go. Started back in January 2003 so it's been a long haul, mostly from domestic Y travel on the golden triangle.

Quick question for those with lifetime gold status...

My dad is convinced that his points will not expire, even if his account is inactive, because he has LTG status.

Is this really the case? I haven't been able to find any references to points not expiring...

I would doubt that is the case - I don't think status has anything to do with points! Never thought about it really as our points get spent very rapidly!

Nothing like a quick call to Qantas to check such an important belief....... :)

I strongly suspect the answer is in the negative... just wondering if anyone here was aware of such a policy, because I sure wasn't (and still aren't)!

I agree if it was a positive answer, but I feel sure that this would be in the negative :)

Many other (non-australian) based programs don't expire points so long as you hold elite status. Based on this it's not unreasonable to think QF might have been similar, but I agree with the going tribe on this one - no go.

On Friday I shall Finally Make Life Time Gold so Now I shall be free of the Qantas shackles and able to take advantage of other one world routings and prices whilst still having a good level of privileges. I have already retained WP through to 31 December 2018.

Woolworths will only do a sweep across every 3 months or so, I think. Need to get 2000 Woolworths points in that time before a sweep will occur. 2000 Woolworths points will get 870 QANTAS points. Unused points will rollover to the next period. With special offers to get bonus points it should be pretty easy to get the needed points.

It would be nice if LTG had more benefits, but unfortunately it appears unlikely that will change.

Good work! My first thoughts were wow, 1200 odd SCs in just 10-11 weeks, but I guess that's obtainable with say just 2 J flights to LHR. Unless it was domestic Y, then double wow :D

I made 14oo plus status credits in 10 days with Business class flights to Jakarta. and now sitting on 2300 with a couple of flights to NZ and also UK. Will add another 320 this weekend with a weekend away. So a mixture of J and Y.

Do you mainly travel in premium cabins? I am not sure I understand the rush to Lifetime Gold if you are going to be releasing shackles and travelling other carriers.

For me the benefits of Lifetime Gold would be travelling Qantas when I may not travel that often.

Don't forget the biggest benefit of LTG.... leaving it on the shelf at home and showing the "Lifetime" text on the card to friends who visit!!

Hi John no my travel is mainly in Y cabins and my travel will drop from this year so doubt I would make gold from here on in. I took advantage of some personal and work flights that needed to be done. A lot of my travel has been self funded and now that we have our first Granddaughter our priority's are changing rapidly.

LTG was of value to me because I can't see myself ever flying anything other than Qantas domestically and it gives me lounge access. The vast majority of flights out of Canberra to Sydney (and back) are economy only, so status or paying for club membership are the only way to have it. LTG came as a byproduct of what I was already flying as I was a huge Qantas fan for many years. Now it will be Qantas domestically and a range of carriers internationally (and not just one world either, as lounge access will come with class flown).
