Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

It's an interesting topic. I kind of think of my LtG as Superannuation. Once I stop travelling with work, I get club access and Gold benefits throughout retirement.

achieved Lifetime Gold on Friday nights flight BNE to CNS ... a flight or two earlier than i expected...seems a couple of 50% bonus SC offers posted and helped tip me over the 14000
Congratulations!

Congrats on achieving that DrRoss. Funnily enough I retired from being a military pilot because I didn't want to travel. After that I was WP for 4(maybe 3) years earned flying mainly domestic Red-Deal. Many times waiting 7 hours for flights as I didn't have a flex fare (regularly in Canberra) - company didn't want to pay the extra $50. <whine over>

But I have it now and thankfully don't work for those people!

Definitely but of my plan as well, 600 more SCs to go and I feel I'll be less willing for all those Red deal flights.

LTG makes up for all the very early morning flights and late nights getting back for work. Personal travel with SG (and presently WP!) is the pay off.

Congratulations DrRoss. Jealous!

Yes, I know the feeling. Was lovely leaving home at 4:45am and getting home at 12:30am to comply with the company Red eDeal policy.

Congrats drross.

Now a question for this thread... do people use their LTG much? I have only held it for <1 year but I have little prospect of coming off WP any time soon, and like others once that stops I don't really want to fly much at all !

My retirement plan is to stay away from the airport as much as possible.

Yep - achieved that! Retired 8 years ago and went from flying twice a week to once a year - and that's only for a long standing Xmas lunch in Sydney. Much to Mrs Ikara's chagrin, I have no desire to sit inside a metal tube and be thrown through the sky at a great rate of knots. Mind you, she has no problem dealing with the accrued FF points! Much rather spend my time with my grand kids.

Well done you. I suspect I am some way off that level of qualification

I achieved LTG around the same time I gave up full-time work (aged 44), I've managed to retain Plat in the 5 years since then. Once the kids are no longer enjoying holidays on the "family chit" (say another 4/5 years) maintaining Plat will be 50% easier and cheaper

I've been LTG for over 10 years - and a SFSC for as long. Now 2.5X around the LTG dial and have never invoked it. I regard it like an insurance policy - comforting to have but really never want to have to use it... ;) .

I just regret not thinking about LTG sooner. Had QP membership 1992-2012 mostly at good corporate rates renewing at either 5 or 3 years at a time. For many years just did not bother to include QFF number on bookings, lots of airlines and never a single account with a meaningful balance I just did not worry about LT status. Fast forward a few years and I now realise I should have been smarter. Based on current flying I should clock over LTG in the next 12 months then I may review my flying habits.

* For the life of the program.... *cough* Ansett

But yes i plan that too, i should hit it in the next three years. should give me at least 40 years of SG until i retire at 70... depends who lasts longer, me or the Qantas Club.

I'll likely only have 3-4 flights a year in AUS post career with one big international trip.

No way I'll qualify for SG but the LTG will get lounge access, better checking, better seats and better award availability, effectively what my work WP/SG created status does for my personal international trips now but LTG means no loss of status when not working.
