When the SCs from the flight I just took post, I too will reach LT Gold.....The golden shackles will be gone and I will try out other airlines internationally...Qf's soft and hard J product is just not up to scratch esp for the amount they want to charge for it!

For me being LTG for half a decade, I still find WP is where it is at.

I'll fall back to my LTG in retirement.

(I found this year they speak Portuguese in PTY ;) )

Quick question for those with lifetime gold status...

My dad is convinced that his points will not expire, even if his account is inactive, because he has LTG status.

Is this really the case? I haven't been able to find any references to points not expiring...

Tell him, he's dreaming !! :-)

That's exactly the kind of LTG status holder QF wants. If you still retain WP then you're not using the LTG benefit yet.

They would be hoping most people that make use of LTG are retired (and thus probably don't fly as much as they used to) and those that are not yet continue to maintain WP (or above) status.

Or in fact are flying more than ever ! :-)

Don't forget the biggest benefit of LTG.... leaving it on the shelf at home and showing the "Lifetime" text on the card to friends who visit!!

yeah I tried to explain this to some members of my family and they just looked at me like "So? what's that? does it mean anything?" LOL

Sure, but my normal travel gives me much of the 1.2K requal anyway.

Seen this thread lately: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ram/syd-j-international-lounge-not-81752.html ;)

It is a good point. I am in my late 30s and I would be aiming for LTG and early retirement so that I can take my grandchildren on holiday to erode QF profit margin. should I even dream bigger?

Congrats to all new LTGs and welcome to the club!

Risky move. Some of your friends may pop out their LTP cards from other airlines and put you to shame :p

Quite likely. I find it hard to believe that Qantas sees LTG as a liability and a cost burden. I'm guessing most who have made it to LTG are either more likely to be all over the upgrading to J caper, or wanting to keep platinum, or more able to afford J, in which case LTG is not even necessary. I'd suggest that the LTGers who only fly Y and therefore reduce the Qantas margin by using the lounges would only be a smallish proportion? I'd even suggest (wild guess here though) that the LTG program on average increases the likelihood that someone might continue to fly than if they didn't hold it.

You more or less just described me. I went from LTS to LTG in the space of 4 years of living in the UK flying Club Europe once every 2-3 weeks. Since coming back to Aus and moving to Asia (where SIA is now my main airline) the number of flights I do with Qantas and the cabin I do it in has changed to the point where I would struggle to make gold in my own right if I had to. But because of LTG I do indeed try to choose Qantas or OneWorld for my family trips. And I am only in my mid 40's so hope to be able to use LTG for years to come because I don't think my work flying will see me get to Platinum again.

Congrats kpc I'm definitely a little jealous but only until June when I click over to LTG :)

Congrats Ansett.

I wonder how many QF LTG members we have on AFF?
