Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Three out of four in our family have Qantas Club Life and one missed it because he was under 18 and ineligible when it ended.
Now two of us are Lifetime Gold and our youngest son flys business class almost all the time on domestic flights because he has access to QF,VA and AA points and miles so he isn't bothered with Status Credits at all.
I think I will be able to hear Qantas admin laughter over in Perth kpc but if you win they may use life tables from a previous century to get you nine tenths af two tenths of sweet bugger all.
I do hope you win!
I thought I heard Velocity had a deal at around $30,000 so we all did ok with our Qantas Club Life memberships that were Christmas presents so many years ago.
yes our youngest one missed out because she was under 18 when it ended. THe other two received them as 18th birthday presents. Although it is disappointing she doesn't have it, the benefits are so minor now overseas, that I don't think it matters as much. In the glory days when QC membership got you into all the BA lounges overseas, it really was worthwhile.

I also will be amazed if Qantas refunds anything on a life membership, but it doesn't do any harm to ask, so well done kpc for trying :)

Just by curiosity, what was the approximate cost of a Lifetime QP membership?

Towards the end it was something like $3000 for one and half that for a partner life. I think we paid a bit less than that something like $2500 and $1250 and a $1500. That of course was quite a few years back.

You are probably right - I thought it was more than that, but maybe not. Ours were bought towards the end - I just managed to get Master FM's before it ended.

It was about $3000 in 1997; someone I know purchased it around then and I recall him discussing it. By the time it was discontinued it had gone up to round $4500.

We thought about buying .... decided to go on a holiday instead :D
Always choose a holiday (unless you are paying for a wedding :) ). It made great 18th birthday gifts for the kids though. Dr FM got extensive use out of it in Europe until the BA relationship died. Master FM has found it useful now he is working in the USA. We didn't bother for ourselves as we figured one way or another we would always have lounge access.

Our eldest is still 2 years away from legal drinking age. Good God! when that day comes around I think our travel budget will suffer a serious blow! :D

Wow 30K? I think paying $1,200.00pa for an Amex Plat charge card is a better ROI as you not only get access to VA lounges but AA & DL also plus Priority Pass lounges.

That's of course in addition to all the other accouterments such as travel insurance, travel credits etc.

I remember using United's Red Carpet Club at LAX a while back which had reciprocal rights with TAA's Flight Deck Club. Pretty underwhelming visit back then ie paid soft drinks, bugger all to eat and a couple of Time Magazines thrown in for goid measure.

Oh lord, it starts before 18..... well perhaps not the boozing..... but the fares, the fares

It was relatively easy paying 4 airfares to go to Thailand every year. Now with a wife and daughter it will be 11 airfares a year. I was hoping the little one can stay here with grandparents for some trips but wife wants her with us on holidays.

Need to get smarter with airfares on double points promotions for myself and daughter and use points for the wifes travel.

Know it well. After 16 years of flying a couple of munchkins around the world we've not got long before they hit the real world :D Looking forward to the travel cost halving and therefore, our travel budget doubling

Good luck with that....

School holidays just mean they are traveling separately

Just wandering

it certainly gets a lot cheaper (helped by having 3 we are saving on), but somehow there always seems to be something we are paying for. Not that they ever ask, but how could I let Master FM fly back in economy for the wedding, when he works so hard and will be going straight into work when he lands in SFO. Or Ms FM has so many health problems , I can't stand her not having a proper sleep on a long flight, or........ (and don't let's get into houses or weddings!). Poor Dr FM gets the worst of it - she is the oldest, so I am tougher with her!

totally can relate to that...4 daughters who love to travel

Just waiting on 20 SC to post for my last flight
I joined the QFF program in Feb '08, Sadly it was before I discovered AFF and I paid the ~$80

9 years, 2 months of almost exclusively domestic whY fares + 1 only paid J fare from ADL to MEL about 7 years ago to get me over the line to keep gold.
