Little things I like

Zip on waterproof jacket has been broken for years and I was cleaning out the wardrobe and decided to see if it could be fixed. I rang BFC which is the stockist and they said try a local place https://www.instagram.com/hilton_hemz/

She said it will either be $10 if she can fix the zip or $65 if she has to replace it and much as I hate throwing clothes away I baulked at $65. She said leave it with me.

Less than 15 minutes later got a text - it is fixed so I went back to pick it up but the shutters were down and I realised I was 3 minutes after closing. I texted and asked if she was still there and up came the shutters.

Incredibly impressed with service and cost - I would have paid $20

Guy I got to know through family history 20 years ago, I've kept in touch since - lovely guy. Over the past 7-10 years we've just kept in touch via Christmas cards. He's had cancer for about 5 years, with ups and downs of course.

I sent him a card last Christmas and he sent me one, with the shocking news that his cancer and general health had gotten very bad and he had booked in for voluntary assisted dying in February. I carded him back (no e-mail) with sympathy etc.

Just got one back - he had to have an X-ray to progress to the next stage of approval for VAD and .... cancers (3) have gone!!! Zilch! May return - but for now he's good.

Just phoned him up and he sounds 10 years younger and planning his next moves :) . I'm taking him out to lunch.

Only downside is that he's emptied his house!
