How long until a purchase expires? Might explain why at some merchants where I had heaps of purchases to go to local champion I'm only needing one now.

I think its a month

Checked:30 days

Not that I'm complaining or anything, but having been away the last month I'm no longer local champion anywhere. Having got back at the weekend made a number of small transaction at a number of my usual places in an attempt to get back to local champion status but in all cases still one or two transactions off regaining local championship status.

Then yesterday I received a number of small local champion points, both small number of points (only 70 in all) but I can't reconcile the points to any particular transactions and as I said I'm not local champion anywhere. Anyone else had this, I'm a bit perplexed (but definitely not complaining).?

I've never seen that before either, but it is much harder to reconcile the base transactions with the LC bonuses with the new AMEX system. Local champion is still a great system though.

If you lose LC at a particular business, is it possible to get it back?

I asked this question of Amex (by telephone) yesterday and was told 'no', which I found surprising. It does, however, explain why I have not got back two businesses that I lost despite making the required number of transactions.

I have been dethroned and reinstated at a couple of Coles.
I have noticed that if I take a business off my list of preferred ones, I don't always get the option of getting it back on the list even though I've spent there

This what I thought. I have never removed these businesses from my list either.

I didn't have the time yesterday but I had a feeling I should have HUACA when I got given that story.

Yes it is. It has happened to me twice. I suspect the Amex consultant doesn't understand the scheme.

In my Amex App I get a message when dethroned, but it also displays how many transactions I need to regain the title. From there it's just a matter of buying the required number of gift cards and putting the crown back on as gracefully as possible. :)

Which is what I thought, saw in the app and subsequently did, but to no avail :(.

Finally signed up to Local Champion via my chepo android phone.

Only my discovery card is eligible. So how much extra would this card per dollar? Just wondering as the discovery only earns 1:1 QFF points while the DJ card earns 2.25 QFF points at supermarkets/petrol stations and 1.5 QFF points at DJ's.

Just wondering because a number of retailers I can buy their GC at supermarkets at the DJ rate without needing to make a number of transactions to become local champion.

Also another annoying thing is seems to leave off a number of retailers off the list or it doesn't become an option till you make a spend there.

1 extra point I believe but have only used the MR version. The stores offered are capricious; they don't always appear even if you have spent

Local champion is a nice simple system to understand. You'll earn 1 extra point per dollar spent at any retailer for which you are a local champion on an eligible AMEX card.

So I did a petrol fill up on the weekend with the DJ card and now it has shown up on the other card's local champion list.

It's not perfect, but it's free (or at least very cheap) points.

Oddly, the pizza place down the road from me is available to select as one of the ten outlets. I selected it only to find they don't accept Amex?!

Presumably Amex is expecting extra merchant fees from this promotion, so why add a business to the promo that doesn't accept Amex. Weird.

Have discovered a minor timesaver that seems to work at Coles. Rather than do multiple whole separate transactions to reach LC, you can use the split payment option and pay $1 at a time. However, no guarantee the transactions will register in the right order so you may wish to wait a minute or two before doing a 'big' shop

I've been doing this from the start. I've found that in one store I was two away from local champion, so I did a $2 split, $3 split and then $100 and when the local champion bonus came through I ended up getting it on all three transactions.

Yes, I pretty much only do tap to pay transactions at my two Coles stores.

I thought so, thanks for confirming.

Something fishy going on with one of my local stores. Twice now, I have made the required number of transactions and twice I have not been reregistered as the LC.

Time for another phone call, but hopefully this time I get somebody who even knows what LC is....

Mine have been good. I checked when I got to the store a week or so a go and the app said I was two behind, so I split the transaction into three payments. After paying I checked the app and it said I was local champion and when the points came through a few days later I got local champion bonuses for the three transactions.
