bossreggie,

I have just read this thread from start to finish and I understand your predicament. I don't barrack for the Lions but would (nearly) always pick whoever was playing against Essendon.

I'll think about this and put some more down tomorrow but all I can say for now is      .

+1 for lawlass...

She has been known to get a good op-up ;) so that could help too

Yes, but wouldn't that require me to be on the same flight in a higher cabin with an empty seat next to me? :D

I say harden up and...

3) Just do it!

Surely if on QF you'd get an op-up anyway (you're a CL aren't you?), so I like that your son put in the stipulation that it has to be on a new airline.

Thanks for all your input... I appreciate it.

I'm thinking I'd like a fellow AFF member to endure the horror with me!!

Here is my deal..... I will pay for the Y ticket.. You have to do the pics AND write the TR. I will need CONSTANT alcohol AND reassurance during the flights!!

You MUST be flexible with your travel dates and be prepared to deal with me being a bit obnoxious!! ALSO.... You must be able to dress appropriately!!

NO PM's... This is 100% genuine. Tell me why you should join me on my trip from HELL!!

Well Lawlass does have a lot to offer.. however!

I am exceptional with the camera (that's what I used to do). And I can write up a mean TR! I'm even betting we update it at each stop!

And as you know I do work for a certain media organisation... I am sure it would make an interesting article in the travel section!

I'll also sympathise with you as I am a Richmond tragic!

That's going to be hard to beat.

I wont win - I have little flexibility with dates. But at 6'5" i'll be about as uncomfortable as you bossreggie. Perhaps that'll mean sympathy rather than empathy?

That's going to be hard to beat.

It is true that nlagalle is more likely to be able to adhere to the 'suitably attired' part of the deal. But I don't think he can drink to Bossreggie/Lawlass standards.

I can hold my own Lawlass!!! :D I've been in practice!

One of the stipulations was NO QF or EK flights. I'm NOT allowed to fly PE :-(

I AM going to do this. I'm just NOT looking forward to it.

As for timing.... It will either be March or July.

If a fellow AFFer joins me on this journey of despair and horror I will pay the air fare and 1st night accommodation in London only. All other costs will be at their expense.

It will be a full service airline and lounge access will be available.

I was going to ask when your timing was..

I have some friends in London and in Jersey (Channel Islands) who I can stay with. Although some time in Paris sounds like a plan.

March is next week. I can come. July good too.

I can hold my own Lawlass!!! :D I've been in practice!

Those after-work drinks you and I have together are hardly practice for the sort of seasoned imbibing we are talking here.

No issue here. I have an extensive network in London from when I lived there and family in Ireland (Etihad straight into DUB and skip the horrible LHR?). And I can give you a personalised tour of the best of the Soho bars...

Oh they doesn't even rate! that's like doing a couple of push ups!

My vote is for Lawlass - I may have been interested, but with a new role don't want to rock the boat too much with leave.

But make sure you post the flights and times. Perhaps there will be some interest in making this an AFF mini-do, or at least on one of the flight sectors/lounges!

Having only pictures from the wake to rely on, and some other news in other threads, I think Lawlass would be a great candidate for this trip!

As a uni bum I definitely have time for this - although my thesis supervisors might not be happy about it. I can write TRs (they can take a while!), I take many photos of anything and everything.... however, Lawlass seems to have a monopoly on being photogenic. :)

Its unlikely that I could win; and I think Lawlass would be a suitable candidate.

bossreggie,

As I posted yesterday I understand your dilemma as on nearly every occasion I will pick whoever is playing against Essendon. (Collingwood is the exception)

My thoughts on flying long haul in economy are the same as yours. I just do not do it as a rule with about six hours as my max in ‘Y’. For me though I cannot afford to fly ‘F’ or even ‘J’ all the time so it simply means less but better quality trips.

Having said that I would be happy to accompany you on the trip of agony. This would purely for the sake of helping you retain your sanity, though possibly crucifying my own in the process. I do know how to dress appropriately in the ‘F’ and other lounges so I would also promise not to wear stubbies, singlet, thongs, moccasins or ugg boots on the flight or in the lounges.

In my case I would take photos and write a report but most certainly not at each stop as that would drive everyone including (mainly) me mad.

For me May is out of the question, due Oz Fest but July onwards would work.

I will put my hand up too (although March would be difficult, and there is that period in May where I will be setting of firecrackers at 3 a.m. outside Straitman's room while he is staying in a hotel shaped suspciously like a crocodile, but I digress)

Selfish Reasons:

It would help me get off my butt and:
1) Actually buy a new camera so I can chronicle the event (rather than my endless investigation of a new camera)
2) Actually write a trip report (rather than endless state of just thinking about it)

For you:

1) Help you appreciate that the alcoholic beverages we get to drink in economy aren't that bad
2) Do my best to keep you supplied with alcohol (actually I have a track record of everyone around me having drinks, but seemingly missing out myself. Where is that Heineken?)

Whoever gets to go, well, it will probably seem like hell, but I am sure you will get to look back on the adventure and laugh :)
