Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

Flying Hawaiian to Honolulu with the family in July out of Brisbane, however their appears to be no lounge access for Platinum members in Brisbane, only Sydney. Does anyone know if there is lounge access available in Brisbane flying on Hawaiian?

No access anymore, was removed recently.

Re: Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian previously used the AirNZ lounge, but that shuts at around 1800ish. No lounge access now for Hawaiian pax afaik. This raises the question - what lounge access will Etihad provide from BNE for their 2135 departure? (starting 2 June) Currently they use AirNZ also for their 1225 flight

HA now departs BNE around 2155 which us several hours later than they used to, so the NZ lounge would've been open at that time.

No it wasnt open for that HA flight - in April anyway. Big notice on the door - closed until tomorrow morning. That was at around 2000. And VA website now contains no reference to lounge access at BNE for HA flights. So the question remains - what will Etihad do for their new night departure at 2135 which starts on 2 June?

If so that would be sometime in the future, but the question is what will they offer their First and Business pax in just under 3 weeks from now.

Re: Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

Maybe Virgin should think about getting their own international lounges if they want to be a player internationally then they could offer access for their partners flying out of Australia instead of the other way round. They are the Australian based Airline after all.

farstar, this is a nice idea. But given the very few VA international flights and that VAi is not much of a profit generator which airports should have a VAi lounge and who would use them?

PS: VA's majority shareholders might not see any value-adding with separate VAi lounges.

Well it would at least be nice if they could negotiate alternative arrangements for the Hawaiian flight. It would also be nice to have lounge access in HNL (and other ports) for flights not to Australia, but I guess the link with Hawaiian is pretty tenuous at best.

Re: Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

I wonder where HA's BNE business class passengers go then?

Re: Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

I upgraded to Hawaiian Airlines Business Class when the online checkin opened 24 hours before the flight. Business class passengers have access to the Qantas Business lounge in Brisbane.

Re: Lounge Access for Virgin Platinum flying Hawaiian Airlines

I can confirm there's no lounge access in BNE when flying Y on HA.

Just for kicks, I tried visiting the NZ lounge with my VA Gold card, and was denied. They said while that used to work, the relationship is no longer since HA switched to using QF for ground crew (all the check-in staff are QF) and lounge access.

Mind you, every VA staffer I asked about this along the way in both SYD and BNE thought I should have access to some lounge (particularly since we would if departing SYD). Not surprised they all got it wrong... VA really need to get their act together with consistent lounge access.

How much did the upgrade cost?

Did you arrive at BNE with a lot of time to spare before the flight? I think when I arrived for the HA flight the NZ lounge was already closed for the night.

Tangentially, I noticed an article about falling demand on routes to HNL that mentioned: 'Virgin, which has an extensive tie-up with Delta Air Lines, had rejected advances from Hawaiian Airlines to expand their code-share alliance. "It has been a relationship that we have been eager to deepen and unable to deepen," he said.' Perhaps poor integration with Hawaiian is purely to keep Delta happy.
