Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Hi Community. I am a QF Club Member and have a LATAM flight coming up. Does anyone know if I can access the QF lounge at AKL airport for the stopover? Also, can I access the LATAM partner lounge in SCL? So, to be clear they are LATAM flights and not on QF flight numbers. Thanks

Welcome to AFF.

Possibly no lounge but better posting your question here.

Sorry no lounge access at either AKL or SCL

Hey all

Whenever I travel with family with QF (wife and 3 kids), the lounge team tend to be gracious enough to let us all in on my Platinum status.

Now UA Prem Plat and travelling next week SYD - SFO. I know in the US I'll have no hope of getting the fam into any lounges, but does anyone know if NZ or Singapore in SYD have the flexibility to let a family of 5 in on one person's status?

Thanks!

Hi all. Newbie to F class - lucky awards booking! Hoping you can help planning re transit logistics SYD-DXB arrive Terminal 3 depart to AMS 1h20 later. Would this enable access to F class lounge and if so which one - the ‘main’ F class lounge or other? How long would would we likely take to get from plane and be likely to get in lounge with walking time either side? Would you eat on plane or in lounge? Thanks for any responses.

EK has a few F lounges. I'd use the one nearest your departure gate.

1 h 20 m transit won't give much lounge time unless you strike it lucky with arrival and departure in the same part of the terminal and both close to transfer security.

My last transit at DXB took 30 minutes from gate to lounge, even with a courtesy buggy. The airport is huuuge (trains between parts if terminals).

If arrival is on time you should have time in lounge for a quick bite, but not a leisurely meal or a shower.

If both sectors are in F, then probably not necessary to eat in the lounge but also depends on time of day etc. If you get through quickly, then maybe just because you can :)

If you're lucky and your onward departure is from the A Gates, they have direct access to the boarding gates from the lounge. Basically one big exclusive waiting area the entire length of the terminal building.

Thanks Kiwi_Flyer and SYD. A few follow on Qs if i may:

Do you know whether information on the onward departure gate is usually available before arrival in DXB or only on checking the board on arrival?

Is the transfer security on arrival before accessing the lounge, or before departure on the onward flight?

Is the food typically better on board in F or in the F lounge?

Many thanks

Central transfer security on arrival. I might be wrong but pretty sure EK to EK connections will be limited to A, B and C gates.

It’s been a while but pretty sure they have connecting flight info onboard in the IFE (someone else can confirm). Similarly current standard of F&B but both used to be excellent.

Thanks SYD. Our Inbound flight is A380 and outbound is 777, so I assume in A gate and out B or C. If so, does anyone know if courtesy buggy will take us to the F lounge at B or C (as applicable) or do we need to take the train b/w gates and meet buggy at the outbound terminal? Thank you.

Just bumping this in case anyone has first-hand experience with this?

Thanks!

Not necessarily. My recent trip had a380 on arrival and departure. Arrived c and departed a.

I couldn't find the onward flight info onboard. But there was someone waiting for me with a sign and straight onto buggy to transfers.

Unlikely unless the kids are all toddlers.

Can anyone clarify, if you're Qantas Gold, do you have access to international lounges when flying on OneWorld partner airlines? At first glance it seems like an obvious yes, you have access response. However, I found this on the Qantas website:

When you click on the Lounges, All Airport Lounges & click any of the international lounges (i.e. SFO or NYC LGA) it comes up with something like this...

" Access to partner lounges is temporarily unavailable. Regular opening hours are: 4 hours prior to Qantas operated departure"

So that means no international lounge access for Qantas Gold/Platinum?

I am not sure why it says that, but there are plenty of trip reports showing that American Airlines lounges are open to Qantas/Oneworld elites as normal. I wouldn't trust Qantas to keep things up to date.

If you look at the respective pages on AA : Lounges − Travel information − American Airlines . Only one lounge is still closed (PHL terminal A), and it has the standard information about OneWorld member access. For example, under Flagship lounges it confirms:
Other oneworld® Emerald and Sapphire
Get access if you’re departing, arriving or connecting to any same-day flight marketed and operated by American or a oneworld® airline (regardless of cabin).*^
*Departing or arriving flight must be the same-day (or before 6 a.m. the following day). Customers traveling on airline industry non-revenue tickets are not eligible for access.

OneWorld lounge access was never suspended during the pandemic, so I'm not really sure why that wording is there. Anyway, you 100% can access any lounge you're usually entitled to per OneWorld rules.

Remember that when departing from USA-based airports, there is no separation between domestic and international departures. So at locations such as SFO or LGFA there are no specific "international lounges". So as a Qantas Gold FF member, you also hold OneWorld Sapphire status, and OneWorld Sapphire status (other than AAdvantage Platinum) allows access to OneWorld lounges (Business Class or general airline lounges) when departing on a OneWorld operated and marketed flight. So if departing on an AA or BA (or other OneWorld flight) flight from SFO or LGA, you can use the AA Admirals Club lounge if there is one in the departure terminal.

I’m not sure if there’s some confusion by the QF person writing the page between ‘partner’ lounges, ‘associate’ lounges and ‘oneworld’ lounges.

Qantas and oneworld lounges are relatively* straight forward… you get in based on your oneworld status. If the lounge is open and you have a boarding pass, in you go.

‘partner’ and ‘associate’ lounges may be third party lounges which are not oneworld or even airline operated… for example it could be a plaza premium lounge, or some other lounge provider.

For partner and associate lounges it’s not uncommon to require an invitation, given to you at check in. I believe some partner and associate lounges may still not be open, hence the warning.

*’relatvely’ because there are always some exceptions, like the BA lounge which is a ‘Qatar airways only lounge’ at PHL until like 4pm, and then reverts to BA, but oneworld status holders still can’t get entry!

Do you think the confusion stems from the closing/re-opening of lounges, for example when QF re-opened they brought back the First lounge and OW Sapphire was not valid for entry?

With the usual caveat with respect to QR. Flying as OW status on QR will not get you into Qatar's International Lounges but usually a (very secondary) partner lounge.

I think the confusion arose with QF's usual ineptitude at maintaining its own website.
