Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Hi, I'm WP and flying out of Melbourne tomorrow on QF8409 (EK409) departing at 5am . I believe the FLounge doesn't open till 5am, and QF Bus Lounge till 3.45am. I can't find what time the EK Lounge opens, does anyone know? Also any comparison between the EK and QF bus lounges? I've not departed that early before, how busy is immigration etc, how early do I need to be at the airport? Thanks.
Pretty sure the EK lounge still operates in variable times but is usually open a couple of hours before scheduled flights. EK lounge is far better than the QF lounge IMO

I would suggest the EK lounge will be open 3 to 4 hours before the 5am flight. That flight should commence boarding shortly after 4am.

Hi,

I've got a feeling this must have been asked before, but my search skills fail me.

I'm traveling from MEL to HKG on CX in business with a family member who is on the same flight in economy. Can I bring them to the lounge with me?
From what I found on CX website only I can access the lounge as +1 is only permitted in first class.
What about QF lounge (which I'd prefer anyway, since CX lounge is... shall we say, underwhelming)? I couldn't find any information on the website (other than for Qantas Club). Has anyone tried it? Or is there any other lounge we both can use?

There is no guest allowed if travelling business class based on OneWorld rules.

I'm flying QF from BKK - SYD next month in Y, with points credited to QF. I have no status with QF but I'm Skywards Gold. Does anyone know if I can access the EK lounge? I've searched but can't get any clarity.

Thanks, RoM

Next week I’m going BNE-HKG in Y+ connecting to HKG-CDG in J on CX. Two seperate award tickets (if that matters). No status. Since it’s looking increasingly unlikely I’ll be able to change the Y+ to J I have to ask: Will I have access to the QF lounge in BNE?

At a guess I would say yes given if the flight was in reverse (SYD-BKK; not actually flying in reverse), this page seems to indicate you would have access.

I believe the answer is yes. This page says lounge access is determined by the international long haul flight, regardless of the shorter flight. If the flights are on separate days, however, you might get some pushback (given they are on separate tickets).

Thanks Danger. I learnt the hard way last month that it doesn't apply in reverse. I was flying SYD - DPS in Y with QF, crediting the miles to QF (to make the most of the double points offer at the time) and was unceremoniously told that I would not be allowed to enter unless I removed the QF number and insert my Skywards info showing I was gold. Just walking with my Skywards card wasn't sufficient.

I suspect in all likelihood the same will occur in BKK. Unless someone else has actual experience there.

Ahhh, yes. The QF-EK lounge rule. I wouldn't be surprised if EK isn't so pedantic, however.

The slightly tedious approach is to acquiesce to the QF lounge agent and change the number on your boarding pass, then change it back at the gate or over the phone.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Doesn’t that page refer to lounge acces BETWEEN flights? I know I have access in HKG due to the 2nd flight being in J. This would be in BNE prior to any travel commencing. Apologies if I’ve missed something on the one world page that addresses this.

Both flights on CX with a 90min connection if that wasn’t clear from my OP.

At Sydney international, which is the better lounge - Skyteam Exclusive Lounge, or AMEX lounge? Flying to HNL on HA/Virgin codeshare

Well it could be read that way but I think it's in your favour. It does say:
  • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than five hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
You will be connecting on the same day (I think). The fact that your connection is not where you're wanting access isn't relevant, I don't think. The second dot point is probably what works best for you:
  • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
Your international long haul provides you lounge access so I think it's fair to argue you can have that lounge access in BNE because of the "and vice-versa" in dot point one.

The Skyteam lounge is significantly bigger. I'd go there.

But NoName's shorter BNE-HKG flight is more than 5 hours, which makes it long haul for this purpose and negates that benefit.

Thanks again. Yes, indeed. Although it makes a mockery of the whole thing, I may try it to see if it actually works :)

Asking for a friend,

theyre either travelling or stopping over in singapore, economy, via qantas

all but one have enough points to get into the lounge, this one person wants to get in but no points or qff program,

can they pay and get in?

sorry for the vague question

I presume by "points" you mean "status".

There is no paid entry - it is possible the one without "enough points" could be guested but more information is needed.
