We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Flying CBR-MEL-TPE-HKG-MEL-CBR on a J Qantas ticket as a Qantas Gold. MEL-TPE on China Airlines. The rest on QF and CX.
The skyteam site says in Melbourne, China Airlines business class uses the Marhaba lounge, Qantas site says Gold with a QF flight number has access to QF int Business lounge.
So if i have access to both, which one is better? I'm tempted to check out the other lounge as i've definitely not been in there before.
 
Haven’t been in the MEL Marhaba for some time but I don’t recall it was anything special but having said that the MEL QF J lounge is beyond dire so no harm heading to the Marhaba. You could always visit both

Same here - the Melbourne Qantas International business lounge is average.

The Marhaba lounge at least has tarmac views - I think just having natural light is a massive plus already.

I'm booked to fly ADL-SYD-SFO; SFO-SAN; SAN-DFW-SYD-ADL as Qantas Platinum. Any advice on lounges at SFO (SFO-SAN is on Alaska, departing terminal 2)? It looks like there is separate security for each terminal, but what's not clear is whether there is inter-terminal transport located after security in the sterile area, which if available will greatly increase the range of lounges available. Thanks!

Hi all,

Quick query re: transferring QF lounge pass and access to EK lounges (on QF code share boarding pass).

I’ve tried researching this on the various Qantas website pages and searching the forums (and web more broadly), but still not 100% clear so thought I’d best ask the collective brains-trust of the AFF community….

My partner, who is flying separately in Y and is QF PS in her own right (was SG, but has slowly dropped down), is booked on QF-branded codeshares on EK metal from PER through DBX, then onwards from DBX>BRU. If I transfer one of my QF lounge passes (I’m QF WP and also have one of the oft-derided QF Titanium MasterCards) to her, could she use these to:
a) access the EK lounge in PER prior to first leg (EK fly from Int’l T1, otherwise she could use the QF business lounge in T3–alas, not an option)?
b) use a second lounge pass to access an EK lounge in DBX during her layover there (and if ‘yes’, which lounge(s) could she access)?

Do the lounge access passes have ‘status’ levels and if so, are these from the level of the original owner that transferred them? I.e., does my QF WP status help at all?

I’m sure the answer is probably ‘findable’ but I’ve been unable to find it—any guidance greatly appreciated!

If I transfer one of my QF lounge passes (I’m QF WP and also have one of the oft-derided QF Titanium MasterCards)
Others have already said no to access (hopefully merged with this soon) but it's also worth noting that QF Titanium passes can't be transferred.

Something worth considering if they do a lot of their own travel is for $699 per year you can purchase a Qantas Club membership. This comes with access to the EK Lounge in Dubai when booked on QF codeshares and there are a few reports that others have had no problems accessing other lounges as it prints "Emirates Lounge" on the boarding pass (although your milage may vary).
 
Looking at the Qantas International Business Lounge table for Qantas Club members it refers to note 2: "One accompanying guest permitted and must be travelling on the same flight."

This was not my understanding of QP rules - I thought it should refer to note 1 instead (any QF/JQ/OW flight). Is the page wrong?

I'm going to Central America in a couple of months via two reward bookings, Fiji Air to LAX (business - QF reward) then AA reward to DFW (first) then SJO (business).

LAX was only going to be a 4 hour layover but now is 11, my understanding is that my AA ticket will not get me access to the lounge, and I have no status. Am I just best buying a day pass and if so to what?

Given Fiji Air is also a Oneworld member should I be able to access the Qantas lounge using method outlined here?

Fiji airways isn’t a member of oneworld, it is a oneworld ‘connect’ partner.

This means you can earn and redeem miles, have certain OW status benefits recognised, and access to selected lounges at key airports.

Not sure if the connect status allows you to avail of the oneworld connecting rules for lounge access, which presumably you are looking to do? (long haul connecting to short haul or domestic).

On arrival into SFO, you have to go through immigration and customs, after which you end up landside anyway. ISTR SFO is linked airside but am not certain.

You have a variety of lounges to choose from should they be open.


There's a third party lounge at SAN that should be available presuming you are flying AA.


At DFW, as a WP, you can use the AA Flagship lounge in terminal D. (Although there are at least four Admirals Club you could access, I would not bother.)

I think the answer is pretty much a ‘no’ unfortunately.

oneworld rules, for transferring (connecting) between oneworld carriers allow lounge access after a long haul flight.

Oneworld connect is not included in those rules.

Costa Rica should be ok, as you are flying business class on AA. North American domestic, mexico (except mexico city) and canada flights don’t come with lounge access for premium class pax.

IME in 2022 when flying QF J, we have had no issues in MEL with guesting our daughter on JQ in Y @RealtimeY

I've used the wayback machine (internet archive) for this page to check this, and that page is indexed back to 2019. I'm afraid it's been the same rule for QC members since at least the 24th August 2019. Not to say it's not possible you might trip up a lounge host here or there... but officially, it's a 'no'.

Flying out of Melbourne next week with Sri Lankan airlines in business. Anyone advise which lounge I will have access to? Can I access the Qantas international business class lounge?

Yes, Sri Lankan airlines use the Qantas lounge in Melbourne. If flying business class or hold oneworld sapphire this is the only lounge you’d have access to.
 
Is MEL QF F lounge opening time still 0515?

Yes still 5:15am

Looking at booking CX134 which is 0725 departure
You'll only have access to the QF lounges from 5:15am (either F or J).

Ironically CX don't want to pay to send their own silver members (as CX give silver lounge access without a guest) to the QF lounges therefore give a voucher to the The House Lounge instead but this only opens at 5:30am meaning even less time. When the QF lounges are shut for CX178 (1am departure), all eligible passengers get a The House voucher at check in.
