Index finger upward in front of lips - SSSShhhhhhhh right in front of them - that usually does the trick - but you need to be loud enough so others around you see and hear you also.

I've sat down next to them and joined in the conversation. It didn't stop them though.

Am I being over sensitive in a lounge that has men, women and children present?

It's a public place. To me, whether there are women and children present makes little or no difference - people should conduct themselves in a manner that shows consideration of others at all times. Good on you for calling them out!

Thanks. As you can see from the thread, this occurred back in January. It must be me though as I had another occassion in the Perth QP with a bunch of bogan FIFOs in June. The biggest mouth there used EVERY swear word. When I called him out, he became very sarcastic and said to all and sundry that I was offended as if it was a crime. As he left the lounge for his flight east, he yelled out that he has going home to cough* his wife. It was a awful. If I had my time again, I would have gone to the front counter and left it to QP staff to do something.

Happily I've never encountered behavior that bad and I honestly don't know how I'd handle it if I did. I suspect too much alcohol might have had something to do with it, either way I can't help but pity his wife.

My worst beefs about lounge behaviour are:

1. People using Skype or mobile phones who seem to be labouring under the delusion that everyone within a 20 metre radius (or more) wants to hear their conversation, and

2. People who let their kids run wild. I don't have any problem with children being in the lounge, but it irks me that some parents seem unable to appreciate the subtle distinction between a business lounge and a kindergarten.

I would love to see Qantas install "phone booths", where extremely loud mobile phone users can go.

JL F lounge in HND has those. In fact, you are not allowed to use your mobile anywhere in the lounge other than the booths. Not that that stopped some loud-mouthed oik when we were there earlier in the year.

NRT J lounge too

You could always add these inappropriate flyers to 'passenger shaming'. May not fix the problem but it sure is cathartic. ;)

As I get older I find myself speaking up more often in these scenarios, however as a 155cm tall female, I don't present much of a 'threat' to anybody! It makes me feel better though ...

Or sit beside or behind and join in. Pointing out that the whole lounge can hear him and so might as well be part of the conversation. :-)

The real shame here is the lack of support from other lounge guests for your courage.

An awful convo in the J Dom Syd Lounge after Retro Roo II function last week. A guy was having his wife/partner being followed and telling his mate. The *f'n b phrase was used loudly and frequently. I had sat there first and they arrived later. I was on my ipad and eventually said "do you mind?" He simply said - "I am much more interesting than your book" (ipad looks like a book apparently). To which I replied "Only in your mind". Then he went quiet for a bit but then started up again. Saying he was going to get his hands around her neck one day.

I didn't want to move - lounge was busy - but also didn't really know what to do as it would have been obvious it was me who might report him and he was clearly a nutter. But he was also smarming it up to the female staff who were getting him beers one after the other and he was a charmer while they were there. A slimy creep.

And I actually wondered if I would have been believed as a result.

His flight was called before mine and it surprised me how much of a relief I felt when the two men left.

Sounds like an all round creep. Hard to know what to do as you say, the lounge was busy, you already asked him to stop, he replied inappropriately and as well was sliming up to the staff (who were obviously not aware of his true nature). At least he left before you and you had some time without his comments. Eerk!

Amazing. Some of the behaviour described here would get you thrown out at the cricket/football, yet the lounge tolerates it?

How far does one of these morons have to go before they get asked to leave? Physical assault?
