Amazing. Some of the behaviour described here would get you thrown at the cricket/football, yet the lounge tolerates it?

How far does one of these morons have to go before they get asked to leave? Physical assault?

I think it is more a matter of alerting them without being seen to do so in case that accelerates the situation. Sometimes, you just want to sit in peace and not have to bother with escalations. So you sit there and shut up.

They need a system like at the footy where you can text a certain number about anti-social behaviour so that you are not seen to be reporting them.

You know, that jokes getting a bit old. It was 12 months ago, our behaviour was impecable, and we were not booted from the lounge. You also know that I am always well behaved in public.

My sentiments exactly. By asking this guy to "tone it down", he actually asked me whether it was "because he was loud or the language". I said "both". After a pause (he was in the company of other FIFOs that arrived from a BHP site) he became the "hero". Mind you, the lounge was packed out with a variety of fellow passengers, business people, older couples, young people and service staff. When a young family sat near me and the parents went to get some food, that's what finally compelled me to say something. NOT one other person said anything.

Just for the record, my husband is an expat FIFO of over 30 years so I am not FIFO bashing.

Anyway, here is a picture of the grub that I sneakily took on my IPad (just in case it escalated)

Luckily phone calls on planes in flight are still relatively expensive or it could get very unpleasant. Etihad are $5/min roaming on mobiles but probably won't stop some.

I reckon its easier to enforce dress codes than behaviour.
Maybe there needs to be another sign at the entrance stating that foul and offensive language will not be tolerated. (Very sad to think this is necessary in a Club). I think a text number to report such behaviours would help those (women?) who feel intimidated and want to report it anonymously.

Or maybe "inappropriate behaviour" (which can be defined in terms and conditions of entry somewhere) rather than just language? The issue doesn't end with language unfortunately.

Sure. Trouble is that 'inappropriate' can be subjective. What is 'too loud' for instance. A swear word is a swear word.

True. And sadly the real issue lies with the people who behave in this way. It almost beggars believe that action to impose reasonably decent standards of behavior should be necessary.

An indictment that people do not know how to behave in 'public' spaces. It is all about them and they don't give a toss on how their behaviour is detrimental to others.

Its interesting - as long as clothes and bodies are clean I don't care what people wear. Start talking loudly, swear, etc etc and it is really disruptive.

The real shame here is the lack of support from other lounge guests for your courage.

Does that mean we are too 'sensitive' ?

Or is that most people just can't be bothered with this issue ?

I had approached the TPR Lounge Manager once to complain about a mobile phone loudmouth.

That promptly stopped the nuisance but didn't stop their staring at me. I couldn't care less.

I think if we were to reproach them directly, they might retort by saying "... WTF are you to tell me things ?...."

I would rather gadgets were banned from all public places.

General phone use is out of control and now one sees more and more loud skype use as well. It is bad enough outside. It is annoying indoors especially when there is nowhere else to go.
