Why are they screwing with the loyalty bonus? Cost to FF for the measly 8,000 points is negligible, the status credit per annum thing has killed off the NBs ever achieving a loyalty bonus (while not the most profitable pax, we were all one of those at some point). I can understand limiting this to QF marketing flights - fair enough, but the other 'enhancements' are quite stupid from a loyalty perspective.
Oh, and you can bet you have to be ticketed on the QF flight number, unlike the other post above suggests.
We at SG and above already have the 'loyalty' rewards with lounge access and other (perhaps constantly eroded) benefits, why not give a tiny incentive to the couple of times a year flyer to keep their (albeit small) dollars with QF? Doesn't affect me, but I feel sorry for the poor old NBs. I remember before even getting silver status I enjoyed a loyalty bonus or two.
I've had 3/4 loyalty bonuses this year myself (now capped, previously unlimited), but to be honest, the 24,000 points is a bit of a drop in the ocean to this 700,000+ points per annum FF. To someone on NB, this could mean they could use it for an upgrade to see how the other half lives, and plant the aspirational seed that we all had when we first joined the programme, spurring a lifelong loyalty to the Red Roo. Oh the nostalgia. Now I get upset when the barista is closed in the JLounge. First world problems.
Just wait, next there'll be 'enhancements' to the lifetime status recognition - based on this, I'd expect that to include only QF marketed, and probably a change of the goalposts. That will anger many no doubt. We'll get 6 (cough - correction) 3 months notice of it though, plenty of time to burn all your points and send them over to the other guys. Lifelong loyalty lost - beware QFF. Not that anyone seems to bother past lifetime SG anyway.
Opportunity yet again lost from the 'most profitable' part of the business.
