Loyalty Bonus changing from 1 July 2013

Makes sense to me.......can't see why QF should provide a loyalty bonus to fly with someone else:confused:

They already do in another way... as long as you get your 4 QF/JQ squiggles, you can earn the rest of your status credits on partner carriers and still qualify for Silver/Gold/Platinum for which QF then gives you status bonuses on QF/AA/BA flights (although I wonder if BA goes away once the EK arrangement kicks in).

Suits me just fine! Almost all of my SC's are from QF flights, so there will be negligible difference.

SC are different to a loyalty points bonus.

If they dumped the SC earning with other partner airlines......QFF would have trouble surviving past the one year mark.

Let's not start that. I think the earning profile will follow the other program members like RJ.

I wish I shared your optimism... I'm thinking my AA account will come in very handy once QR joins OW.

stupid move, the cost of the bonus points would be very little but is an attractive point that keeps you crediting to QF over other airlines.

theyre making it easier and easier for me to move flights to credit MPC/Asia Miles - this was the differentiator, the platinum bonus is already nil because AM requires half the miles for rewards!

A bit sad to see, although not going to effect me too much... This year i'll hit 1000 SC's of which 700 are probably QF flight numbers.
So this year will get 16,000 in bonuses and next year would only get 8,000.

The only problem I have with this is I am only too happy to fly on QF metal or QF flight number, but when they have ceased some of my main routes and replaced it with codeshares where I don't get any status benefits (ceasing of SIN-BOM) so there is no real incentive to fly on the QF codeshare with Jetairways, as my Gold status means nothing there. I'd rather fly on CX to get benefits of my Gold status.

To me slugging it out on a QF codeshare service, with no priority checkin, no priority boarding, no seat selection, no tagged luggage, no lounge access is not worth doing just for 8,000 points, i'd rather fly on an interline service with CX, or BA etc at least I will get these status benefits.

I hope the Emirates partnership will fix some of it, ie. hopefully they offer QF flight numbers on all the Emirates services and extend the benefits of Silver, Gold and Plat across the EK network then it'll be fine.

My guess at why they did this change is probably due to MH joining OW, they've never had a OW partner so close to Australia before with lots of flights from Aus around the region they're probably worried about people flying more on them and vice-versa people in Malaysia flying domestic routes with MH and signing up to QFF just to get loyalty bonuses.

QF aren't providing any loyalty bonuses, QFF are.
Being loyal to QF is not the same as being loyal to QFF.
In the same way, being loyal to QFF is not the same as being loyal to QF.

I'm also of the opinion that the loyalty bonus should be for flying on QF marketed flights rather than all of the OneWorld carriers.

A quick check of my activity for my last QFF year shows that 82% of my flights were on QF (42 out of 51).
I would 'lose' 230 SC's from the other 9 'non-QF' flights but still earn enough SC's to gain all 4 loyalty bonuses (2,190 SC's from QF only, compared to 2,420 overall).

I can understand the impact it would have though on people who fly more of the other OW carriers rather than QF.

(I just realised with this post I've hit 1,000 posts! :D Admin, do I get a loyalty bonus?)

It's tricky - for me I took 79 sectors in my last QF year (to 30 Sep) - 69 of those on QF but 1000 SCs were on non-QF.

You're right.

But as someone who pretty much flies exclusively on QF metal, I do find it strange that there's barely a benefit to me that isn't available to someone who gains their status largely on OW airlines.

Wrong. That was my personal situation. I remain concerned at the overall devaluing of the program, but in my personal situation this change is of little consequence (though annoying, as I will do a status run somewhere at some point, so it will reduce my points earn). ...
That is not what you posted:
...

I don't think anyone could have been too annoyed with that change.
If you were posting from your personal view please cosider that while you might not be annoyed, I am; it's better not to generalise. I reckon what you posted could have been something like "I am not too annoyed with that change" or "I would be surprised if anyone is too annoyed with that change".

And of what value is that to QFF exactly? ... also protect QFF from handing out a lot of points to customers who aren't necessarily giving their dollar to QF, as in your case.
Maybe in consideration for the loyalty in respect to the over 10000SC's I have earned on QF flights that contribute to my 24000+ life time SC's ... ?

I would kindly ask you Serfty to no mention the Lifetime word...... ;P
I'm betting any tick of the clock now LTS and LTG become QF SC's only.........

Snap!

Ok, consider what I said to mean the latter of your suggestions.

However there is a reason I used "I don't think anyone could have been too annoyed with that change" instead of "No one would be too annoyed with that change".........

LTS
LTG
Status Bonus

All the points earned and that continue to be earned on those flights including the loyalty bonus when flying QF.

I always thought it was a little strange QF would offer a loyalty bonus for non-QF marketed flights - it was really a One World loyalty bonus, wasn't it?

Thinking evil thoughts, I wonder if the next "enhancement" will be 2400 SC on QF flight numbers for "additional Platinum benefits " ?
This might just be the start

Don't put ideas in their head ! It was a bad enough 'enhancement' when it went from 2100 to 2400 SC for PG/additional benefits.

You could say that flying on QF metal is the benefit!

Again, this is not the case. QF are not offering a loyalty bonus, but their separate frequent flyer arm (QFF) is.

See my post on the previous page.

Two things do not match up:

QF is cancelling routes (LHR-SIN in my case) so it is harder for me to fly with QF codes.
The QFF still keeps me loyal with QF, but they are reducing the options for me. If possible, QF is still my first priority.
I still am loyal to the Oneworld alliance. This year I will get 400 SCs on QF and the rest with some other Oneworld airlines. So I would get no Loyalty Bonus this year (despite clocking up ~1200 SCs).

As European member my possibilities to earn QFF points are very limited. So it maybe hurts a bit more.

The disappointing thing for me is that Jet* flights aren't included. Given you have to pay extra for QFF points and SCs surely they should be included? Especially since they count for the four ~ flights. (Well this week at least!)

Hmmm... I'm not sure about that...??? Happy to be wrong, but lots of JQ flights have a QF flight number. E.g. my example earlier, JQ929 CNS-BNE is also QF5929. While you may not book on QF5929, I think there'd be a case to argue that JQ929 is a QF coded flight. Perhaps Red Roo could clarify for us?

The JQ flights with QF numbers are for reward redemptions in Australia, you cannot buy a ticket on them as such, at least not one that earns points.
