QFF offer and I decide whether to accept our not. This is based on other opportunities that may exist and possible be applicable to one's individual circumstance.
And again I totally understand. But Qantas are no longer offering with perfectly valid reasons.

John K, of course you are right, I shouldn't be booking MASA's, but they are allowed until June 30... I take offence to your stance and I think you are being very unfair to many AFF folk who are booking MASA's while they are clearly allowed too. You do not run Qantas, hence your opinion is exactly that....just an opinion

I will continue to use my points how I feel fit, and as long as it is within Qantas T&C's, then quite frankly it is nothing that you should concern yourself with...

I often buy fuel when it is at a good price (Better value), I buy wine when it is on special (Better value) I buy Food when it is on special (Better Value).... I'm sure you do similar.... So why not seek the "better value" for my travel when using the points that Qantas are clearly quite happy for me to chase.

Why do you take offence to a QFF member booking the best value flight, even if it includes a MASA, which is allowed in the program T&C's

I think your wrong, but I'll respect your opinions if you can point to me on the Qantas website why today, tomorrow, next week, next month I cant book the best value MASA I can find, honestly if you wouldn't do the same then you clearly earn your money easier than me...

John, you're wrong, and I'm sure you'll see the error of your judgment one day...

Shintaro 10x

I think at least one Qantas executive understood this - and I suspect that's why VA and TT do not even acknowledge each other's existence.

Ummm tell that to the pax two weeks ago on yet another cancelled TT flight who were rebooked onto 'our sister airline Virgin Australia' as ceremoniously announced by the TT team :)

I'm sure TT is considered the ugly step sister by most at VA ;)

John, you're wrong, and I'm sure you'll see the error of your judgment one day...

I posted an opinion with some rough numbers for my argument. I never said I was right. I apologised a while back for using the word abuse and revised that to overuse.

I think you'll find I stayed away from the best value Any Seat award threads and criticised Qantas for offering Any Seat awards and double SCs. You don't think I am allowed to criticise? I have a huge investment in Qantas and I have more to lose than most. You don't have to agree with me.

When I replied to your post it was not a personal attack on you.

I don't like the gloating. It is still happening in that thread. It is happening here. It is not a good look.

I am waiting for the next enhancement that will make me cry.

Here we go again.

Did I just read in the other thread that a one-way SC earning and QFF point earning Any Seat award SYD-MEL-LHR in business costs 112,000 points + ~$700 (~$1,500 income for Qantas) and in First costs 198,000 points +~$900 (~$2,300 income for Qantas)?

And as a Platinum how many points and SCs towards loyalty do you earn to offset the income for Qantas?

You guys are taking the piss. That is an awfully cheap way to travel in premium cabins? I can see why Qantas has the loads but no income.

Glad they have been removed.

No one has forced QF to offer this, it is not a "mistake" fare.
Someone is going to buy it... why not one of us?

You can't possibly value QFF points at more than ~0.7cents/point. Can you?

I thought a one-way classic award was 128,000 + surcharges and you cannot earn status nor do you earn QFF points.

Of course there are and these were discussed the other day.

Am I missing something here? The main reason AFF is unhappy is they cannot earn their cheap status now on Any Seat awards. That is the main motivation. Look at all the threads. If as you say Classic awards are generally cheaper then you can still travel in premium cabins awfully cheaply? What have I missed?

Your post focused on the cheap way to fly in premium cabins. If that was an issue then qantas would be killing classic awards. That suggests the issue is not the return on the award. Again that is the issue that you seem to raise with all the numbers on the value of various awards.

How you or I value points probably doesn't have much bearing on the return qantas achieve from selling the points. Personally I suspect they sell the points for 1.5 - 1.8 cents. The value they give for redeeming a point is around the 0.7 cents level. So I'd guess they might make 0.8 - 1.1 cents per point redeemed. But this is all dependent on transfer pricing of the award seat and the points between Qantas group entities.

It is a mistake. It was an unwanted consequence of another feature.

Yes someone is going to buy it. Good luck to all of you. Now it is going. Sorry gone. I haven't heard a decent reason of why it has to stay apart from what Princess Fiona had to say.

Apologies. Should I be mourning? Maybe I would be mourning now if peolle were more sensitive when complimentary exit rows in international flights was removed along with Anytime access to lounges.

No one is asking you to mourn.

It also seems that qantas' reason, to not give out cheap status, is invalidated by DSC offers. Qantas also had the power to reprice Marginal ASA. They certainly changed the routing rules for masa.

There is also the fact that Qantas have practically killed ASA completely, as Points plus Pay is technically not an ASA. As I said at the lunch they need to introduce something in between stupid expensive, like points plus pay, and a classic award. There is demand there to earn status on awards and more importantly for the upgrade opportunities. Surely there is money to be made.

I'm struggling to see why you're getting so toey. You're not the only one here that didn't avail themselves of JASA/MASA...

IMO the devil in the recent changes are the overwhelming negative OW initiatives.

Don't worry about it. I am fine.

There are a lot of people on AFF toey and focussing on one change only. It is gone. It is not coming back. Move on with life.

Apologies for anyone getting toey when masas are gone and I revert to the cheaper (non status earning) red fare upgraded on points....

Fair enough, I stand corrected! But did TT infrequent flyer club members receive their status benefits on the VA flight? :p

Does any airline in the world want to go there? If there was money to be made someone would have jumped on it. Yes?

A simple Domestic Points + Pay in the premium cabin redeems at around $0.007 per point, very poor value indeed

At that pricing I can't see many people using it... so pretty much a useless product to offer...

ADL - MEL - ADL Business Class Classic Award = 32,000 QFF + ~$80

ADL - MEL - ADL Business Class Points + Pay = 32,000 QFF + ~$914 (Or Total Points 146,800 )

Yes and I have never had problems getting one yet! :)

As for QF points I still value them at about 3-4 cents per $1

That said I am not using a QF credit card anymore, my spend is all about building more SQ points, but will fly QF domestically exclusively and redeem for LHR/LAX J/F seats on QF

Or pay $1138.00 return in J and get Points and status credits and retain the 32,000 points.. and earn 2500 points.

So basically the 32000 points are worth a mere $224.00 or $0.007 per point making as bad as buying Myer Gift Cards using points.

I know the conversation has moved on a bit - but my take remains this... mASAs only available when classic was available anyway.

And the surcharge (over and above a classic award) is several hundred dollars... maybe $300 or more. That extra cash payment is the same as a jetstar bundle... and in reality... you might reach gold (lounge access) by getting the SCs... but you could also have just spent that cash to get qantas club for another year.

So I don't see there being any loss to QF at all.
