Macquarie Bank takes over from HSBC

No such luck. No one has immunity. It's listed in the current T&Cs for the card on the Woolworths Money website.
Actually there has been recent commentary from the bank regulators that merely changing the T&C's on their website without actually telling your customers that it has changed (and what has changed) would not normally be regarded as adequate notice.

My last payment just yesterday, does not have the very small print (online). I think I may have immunity. ;)
Was that "payment" or "Statement".

My end of month was last week and at the very end of the downloaded .pdf statement it had the text.

That was actual payment. I guess my next statement will have whatever yours says.

The way I see it, the websites are a marketing tools, and it is largely what the current offer to new customers is. I am expecting more than just a new card in whatever is being sent to us - new card, insurance, point tiers....

I had a telephone call from Woolworths Money advising that a new Visa card was on the way. In the meantime Bpay isn't possible (the website says this too) and I'll have to transfer any direct debits.

I advised the lass that I was very unhappy with the reduced points earn and that in due course I'll be closing the account along with a lot of other customers. She undertook to pass this on. Water off a duck's back I guess.

So we have to change all our direct debits to the new card? That's a royal pain. What happens if we dont activate the new card? My next year doesnt start until October.

Re: The party is over

Rushed to complete my BAS tonight...then paid with WOW MC, and have reloaded card via Bpay so can make an "extra payment" on Monday :)...might as well go out with a bang!!

Reload came through overnight...made another payment to the ATO this am...this could be my last spend on this card!
Got my last ATO payment in, just in time, thanks to AFFers. My February statement came out today, and not unexpectedly states the points cap will be effective from my March statement onwards...once I have paid off this card, will ditch it!

I've already said my farewell to the Woolies card. At the moment I have my big bank Amex/Visa combination (negotiated as fee-free, for now as a very long-term customer) but still need something to replace the poor points earn on Visa, when Amex is not accepted. All I need is a low-cost Mastercard with a good points earn. Please let me know if you find one!
I am thinking about the MECU card http://www.bankmecu.com.au/borrowing/credit-cards/platinum-rewards-visa-credit-card.html
$50 more than this one .. and uncapped.

Pretty much identical to Qantas Credit Union, which many AFFers are bailing to, me included. It's about as good a deal you'll get these days. Bpay transactions are excluded from points earning.

Can I please ask a really noob question about BPay and Direct Debits ? Are they different (I'm hoping the answers yes :) ) ?

Generally different when it comes to credit cards..

bPay uses the provider code and reference number. There are three parties involved - your bank (credit card), BPay and the Service Provider being paid.

Direct Debit is like doing a credit card payment at a shop - just automatic. It uses your account and credit card number. There are two parties involved, the Service Provider being paid and your bank (credit card).

And, does the EDR at WOW member number on the back of the existing card come onto the new card? Apologies if I missed a mention of this elsewhere.

Do you have a reference for BPay transactions being excluded? The only such wording I can find is "cash and cash equivalent transactions" are excluded. BPay is only seen as cash-advance if the biller specifically does not accept credit cards. If the biller accepts credits cards (like most utility bills) then its not a cash-equivalent transaction. So can you show me where it identified BPay as excluded from earning?

It's not consistent. Woolworths Money/Mastercard is OK. Qantas Credit Union (Visa) is not. CBA excludes them, according to AFFers, as does Citibank and Citibank-backed cards. You really have to dig deep into the T&Cs to find this:

Can you apply online for a replacement EDR Orange Card before you cut up the credit card ?
It's a long time since I had a stand alone EDR card.

Thanks for the link and confirmation. About the only things I use BPay for these days are:

1. Paying my credit cards from savings account each month
2. Paying school fees. They prefer BPay method but will process credit card over the counter which will mean a visit to the school admin office each term.

Most of my utility bills that offer BPay as a method also allow direct payment via web sites, often through 3rd party payment services.
