Thanks Dr.

100/40000 is better value than hsbc or NAB at 199/60000 and 250/75000. I mean it's not free... But I'll put it on my list.

And I find it good to spread the applications around. Particularly with exclusion periods - which may exist or could exist in the future.

Is there an exclusion period with this card? If so, would a Jetstar card from Macquarie count towards the exclusion period?

Applied, have received and met minimum spend with one payment. How long has it taken for bonus points to land?

It takes 1-2 cycles for the points to land, or has with my previous Macquarie cards.

Several reasons:

1) It saves me time - I use a proforma letter.
2) It means that there is a record of my direction to cancel the card.
3) The letter notes that I won't be liable for any further charges on that card.
4) It means I don't need to provide a reason for cancelling the card or have anyone ask if I just joined up for the points or try and talk me out of it.

This seems like an eminently sensible approach. Just a question: what postal address do you usually use for the banks? Most of the bank websites seem to do quite wonderful jobs of obscuring the postal / physical addresses of the different departments (e.g. Card Services).

I use the address provided for payments. It's usually on the monthly statement.

I've seen several reports like yours in the past.

I've not had a problem with them.

Not sure what I'm doing 'right'.

There are a couple of things that I am aware of which both indicate 'stability'. How long you have lived at your current address and how long you have been with your current employer. Yes there are no doubt other more obvious things (credit limits on existing cards, balance sheet, income etc) but I really think the two 'stability' indicators are often ignored...

It's taken me over 6 weeks to get my MacBlack. First I had to wait for my notice of assessment from the ATO for last year as the year before last my income was $25k due to some losses.
Whilst waiting for the notice, Mac rang my accountant:
"how long has coriander been in business?"
"About 40 years"
"How long have you been his accountant?"
"About 35 years".
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Hmm, thank you."
"Don't you want to know his current income?"
"Aah no, thank you."

A day later, I ring MacBank.
" The notes I have here is that the team is still awaiting your latest notice of assessment."

"Didn't you confirm my income with my accountant?"
"Some of the answers received were outside our parameters" (WTF does that mean???).

Anyhow, latest Notice of Assessment arrived last Friday, emailed to MacBank immediately, card appeared in mail yesterday Tuesday, already $3.5k racked up on it today.

All good. But sheesh MacBank are a weird mob.

Mrs C cancelled her JQ MC yesterday (11 months after obtaining it) and applied for MacBlack this morning, card approved this afternoon (she's employed by large MNC). It's obviously better to be employed rather than self-employed.

The gentleman, who is self employed, never bothers applying for new credit cards. Way too hard.

Yep -
Somehow I'm on the Maquarie / Jetstar / woolworths / westpac black list.
Good thing ANZ, NAB, Commonwealth, HSBC, St George, Citi, Amex etc etc etc love me.

Wonder what is triggering the poor results from these guys ?

There seems to be an issue with Macquarie Issued cards. Have received approval emails and SMS for Macquarie and Jetstar cards that have been cancelled.

Yes I got an approval email too I cancelled my card last week. Did you ring them to ask about why you got the email

First two calls would not connect. 3rd call was on hold for 10mins and then got cut off. Never spoke to anyone, but then noticed other reports of the same issue.

I saw those threads too so now not worried. Am overseas so you always stress a little more when you get weird emails.

Got an email and SMS. Don't want any credit card applications affecting my credit rating at the moment. I might give Macquarie a call later in the week.

Someone on the Jetstar MC card thread reported calling Macquarie and being told there is no hit to the credit file (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....astercard-40k-points-70260-8.html#post1593134).

Given how widespread the problem appears to be, I suspect Macquarie will be emailing affected customers before too long to explain and (hopefully) apologise.
