Just got an SMS after receiving the email a few hours ago telling me my new card had been approved. Seems the problem is ongoing.

2 minutes later I have now received an SMS telling me that I may have received an SMS earlier today which shouldn't have been sent!

How much money would it have cost to send everyone an SMS?

And how much has this hurt the already poor reputation that Macquarie has?

Got the text to disregard the earlier text as well. Perhaps one should use the stress this text caused as an excuse to cancel (after receiving the points from the current period's spend)?

Already drafting my letter expressing my concern that they are misusing my data :)

Look out, it's on again!

Just received this via email:

How much longer will this go on!

Just a data point - got this card early this month. Hit required spend with one payment and bonus points have landed in my QFF account this morning. Thank you Macquarie!

Having problems canceling this card. They are refusing to accept my letter advising to cancel. Is that even allowed ?? Very odd. Guess I have to talk to the call centre then.

Absolutely not allowed to ignore a written direction to close your account. I've closed accounts with Macquaire by letter and I can tell you they don't like it because it doesn't give them a chance to talk you out of it. Usually I receive a call from them about 10 days after I have send the letter. They tell me they are calling to discuss my cancellation. I tell them they should read the letter as my account was cancelled 10 days ago!

Send a copy to the Ombudsman and explain the situation.

Thanks Dr Ralph. I knew you would know how to deal with this. Just applied for the Jetstar Platinum card so I guess I will be dealing with this again in a few months time!

Just singing up to this one now. 1ppd up to 4k.mth isn't amazing, but it's the best out there from what I can see from what I'm allowed.
e.g. ANZ Black I had until December of last year so aren't applicable, and every other card seems to be $2,500/month at 1:1.

Just realised it's the Macq Black I'm applying for, not the Platinum.

I have to say I think this card (MacBlack) will be a keeper for me for Visa/MC spend (I'm careful to only spend $4k per month on it): great app, great website, notifications to my phone whenever there's a transaction, points post promptly. OTOH the HSBC card and its backend is hopeless, no points posted and I'm up to third statement.

Well I applied for the Mac Black on the website, got approved on the site. And then in the post received the Platinum card (less bonus points and only 2.5k/month @ 1:1 ppd). So obviously not very happy about this as I needed the 4k/mth coverage. So I called and basically they said I wasn't approved for the 15k limit so got a 12k limit, and that fits the Platinum card.

So I applied for a credit increase which would then give me the Black, but got told last night I didn't get approved. Cancelled the card on the spot so now it's back to looking!

Seems like there aren't many good offers out there at the moment (at least that I'm eligible for), so decided to get in for another go at the Macquarie offering. I thinks it's still a solid offering:

40,000 QFF points.
$99 fee
$2000 minimum spend in 3 months

Qantas Credit Cards from Macquarie | Earn Qantas Points | Apply Online

This is my 3rd Macquarie card in the last 18 months.

Happy to take the points and move on.
