I might have to give this one another run then, seeing as I was rebuffed by NAB.

I have read reports that Macquarie are tough on applications. But this has not been my experience.

I may get another Macquarie card then. Good to know. I like the app alerting me to purchases.

I have only got a few cards recently so I do have plenty of options at the moment though.

NAB were prepared to give me a credit card, just not the one I wanted. So I should be okay with this one. If not, then I am sitting out the merry-go round for a while!

What would make this even more attractive is getting points for the fiscal fiend. Anyone who’s had it before able to advise please?

Stuffed if I know -
For whatever reason Maquarie wont touch me with a stick...
Earn $200k a year, low mortgage.
Thinking it can only be churning that is hurting me here :(

Sometimes it seems random.

My partner and I churn around the same number of cards.

Within the last month we both applied for Westpac Black and Macquarie Platinum. I got approved for both. She got the Macquaire card but rejected for Westpac (her first rejection). She earns close to double my salary. Called them and they claimed it was because she had only lived at the same address for a short period of time - 15 years!

Seems like there aren't many good offers out there at the moment (at least that I'm eligible for), so decided to get in for another go at the Macquarie offering. I thinks it's still a solid offering:

40,000 QFF points.
$99 fee
$2000 minimum spend in 3 months

Qantas Credit Cards from Macquarie | Earn Qantas Points | Apply Online

This is my 3rd Macquarie card in the last 18 months.

Happy to take the points and move on.

Thanks Dr. I'm in :)

I haven't had a Macquarie card for about 18 months. I think this is the same offer as I had then.

Agree not many other offers available currently. Weren't there are run of offers at the end of 2016 and maybe we can hope for similar again?

I've just been conditionally approved for the MacBlack and wanted to see if anyone had experience with ATO spend being counted towards the spend for the bonus points.

I'm aware the spend with the ATO does not earn any points but does it count towards the $3000 spend for the bonus points or is it lumped with cash advance, etc as 'restricted' spend? If it's not restricted I can hit the minimum spend before the first billing cycle is done, otherwise I will need to plan out my spend.

Applied October 24. Got conditional approval immediately. Today received SMS and email telling me my application was successful and I should get my card in the mail soon. Seems quite slow.

Applied Oct 23. Didn't receive card until Nov 7. Made first transaction and my account got blocked! Received this email:

WTF Macquaire! Do you not understand that people use a credit card once they receive it?

Purchase was for a $500 WISH card. When I called about this I got an overseas call centre. They gave be a spiel about it being a high risk transaction. After waiting on hold for 25 mins suffice to say that I gave it to them. Told them I had no confidence in them as they blocked my very first transaction and I couldn't trust them not to do this for every future transaction. Spoke to a supervisor and they have agreed to waive my annual fee for the first year. So some free points coming my way!

That's disastrous! What happened with your WISH card purchase?

Don't know. It's been more than 24 hours since the purchase. Macquaire claimed that they would authorise the transaction. But payment is showing as 'pending' on the Macquaire portal and via the WISH portal. I'd say Woolworths tried to take the money. Macquaire blocked it. So now its in limbo. I've contacted Woolworths.

I have found processing of my application to be inept and uncoordinated. Not sure that I want an ongoing business relationship with them.

I once found that buying a gift card as the first purchase on an Amex resulted on the card being put on hold for 3 days after I called them. I didn't think to ask for 'recompense'.

It's definitely a slow process. Happy to take the points and move on straight away.

My experience with the Jetstar card (issued by Macquarie) was similar to yours. Then I changed life circumstances resulting in an income drop (but all other factors being equal), I was approved straight away.

If it makes you feel better my WISHCard purchases triggered a block on a Westpac card. Got a call saying they've had a number of suspicious transactions through the WISH website and it was flagged. Told them the purchase was okay and all okay from then.
