We should compare apple to apple, IMHO.

Further, the QFF fee ($50) is waived for the first year anyway.

I could not see the international insurance on browsing the DJ site. You may be right but I could not locate it.

True, each to his own, of course.

e.g. I cannot remember the last time I shopped at DJ - maybe 5-7 years ago

You raised the $29 sup fee after the first year as a negative in an earlier post. The QFF fee after the first year is $50. I agree, lets compare apples to apples.

The travel insurance is clearly listed in the key benefits of the card at David Jones - David Jones American Express Platinum Card :

Complimentary Travel Insurance[SUP]6[/SUP] when you use your Card to book flights and accommodation

That's pretty clear.

Bottom line, when you stack the Macquarie Visa product up against other products it is not that flash. I used the DJ Amex as an example, but there are others such as the Qantas CU Visa card which offer more bang for the buck. As I also pointed out, a lot will depend on your personal circumstances. I do shop at DJs so I do take advantage of some of the card benefits so I can accumulate points pretty rapidly. I don't pay electricity bills or mobile phone bills, so it would be pretty hard for me to rack up $5k in six months on groceries, food and water rates to make the 25k QFF points.

The insurance for the DJs AMEX is only for the Platinum card which has an annual fee of $295, the standard DJs AMEX is $99 but no insurance. DJs plat AMEX only gets 2 extra points shopping at DJs compared to the standard card (the rest of the points earn is the same), plus various other instore benefits. The DJs AMEX is pretty good value as an everyday card for those who spend heavy at supermarkets and petrol stations, just put flights through another card for the insurance. (sorry OT)

Applied a few days ago, haven't received any responses from them since then, called the card centre, they did receive my application, claimed that they could take up to 10 days to process an application.

Yep I haven't heard anything either.

In the subject of comparing the cards. Is there any reason why you can't get both and get both bonuses.

They contacted my accountant after 5 days, so obviously things are moving behind the scene.

No issue with that, except one should not tout for one card without comparing likes for likes e.g. $250 for 1st year (DJ Plat) vs $0 (Macq Visa) etc...

Terms like "that's clear" imply unequivocal superiority while lacking in direct comparative data.

I have no affiliation with either organisation (DJ or Macq Bank)

I got called today and asked to email a payslip. Did so within about an hour, so sounds like it is moving along.

You crack me up. You apparently can't read simple English i.e. "Complimentary travel insurance is included", make an unequivocal statement that travel insurance is not included then try to have a dig when it's pointed out that you were wrong? Perhaps I should keep my posts to words of one syllable so you can understand. It is clear to anyone who reads the card features that Travel Insurance is part of the card features.

BTW I am not "touting" for one card and I have posted a pretty thorough comparison to back my opinion that the Macq bank card is not that good an offer, which I note, you have not refuted. I used the DJ Amex as a comparison. Another was the Qantas CU Platinum Visa card:

Earn up to 30,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points in the first 5 months when you make eligible purchases and receive the card before 31 December 2012[SUP]2[/SUP] -Earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent on eligible purchases[SUP]1[/SUP]
-Earn 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points for every $1 spent on Qantas products and services[SUP]3[/SUP]
-Complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership, valued at $82.50[SUP]4[/SUP]
-Complimentary overseas travel insurance[SUP]5[/SUP]
-4.99%p.a. on balance transfers and purchases for your first 5 months[SUP]6[/SUP]
-Annual fee of $195 (waived for the first year)[SUP]7[/SUP]
-Up to 46 days interest free on purchases
-Free additional card holder
-24/7 worldwide Visa Platinum Concierge Service
-Access to Visa Platinum entertainment offers

30000 bonus points as long as I buy a chocolate bar at the supermarket over the next 5 months, then I can pocket my 30000 points for virtually free and ditch the card. Much better value that the Macq Bank card.

I have three Platinum Cards, a Bankwest Qantas Mastercard, the DJ Amex card and a Qantas CU card for different spends. The Bankwest card is my everyday card, best for general spending and overseas/online purchases ($0 foreign transaction fees) The Qantas CU card is purely a short term card for my five kit kat bars, then I'll flick it. The Amex card is for groceries/fuel @ 2.25QFF points per $ and for instore purchases. The DJ Amex card has given me the greatest amount of free points, but I'm not really sure how. I initially got the standard card and used my 15000 point sign on bonus to pay the first year's fee, effectively getting it for free, then selected the QFF program. However, after a few weeks I was credited an additional 30000 points bonus for a Woolies purchase. I decided to upgrade to Platinum and was credited $95 against the joining fee, bringing that back to $200 which they haven't charged me yet, however, because I was a new Platinum customer, I received another 30000 points. Spent a couple of grand on Christmas presents instore on the weekend and received 6 QFF points per dollar spend for 12000 points. Today, another 2000 bonus points appeared in my account for no apparent reason. So far, assuming they charge me the $200 annual fee, it will have cost me only $200 for 62000 bonus points in just 2 months over and above any bonus points from spending. I'm pretty happy with that. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't charge me and in any event, come the anniversary I'll be telling them to waive the fee or I'll churn to another card.

Getting back to the topic, the bottom line when considering the Macq card is there are other cards out there which will give you more points for less spend e.g. Qantas CU Platinum or have permanent bonus points for food/groceries not capped at $5k spend in 5 months. The fact that after 5 months your spending on the Macq Bank card reverts to $1 per QFF point regardless of where you spend means it is not as good value as some other cards IMO.

I would think any card that gives you points and Qantas club invites for $0 is pretty good value. That's not to say that there aren't other good deals but I prefer the free ones.

Just received my card and activated ...should reach the $5K spend and get the extra points quite easily. Hopefully the two passes will arrive before I go away at the end of February

Got my card today also, waived first year card fee as well as the QFF program fee. Will start using this card very soon.

I presume if I buy some Wish Cards ( with 5% discount through the entertainment book) that this will count towards the $5K spend at Supermarkets?

I doubt it. They would be looking for the merchant name on the credit card statement, to see if it is a supermarket. Somehow I don't think Entertainment Book (or whatever their company name is) will be recognised as a supermarket.

Of course, should have thought of that...never mind will meet the $5K I am sure with utilities and ordinary spend at supermarkets...Cheers and Happy New Year

They may be trying to screen out people who churn credit cards for points.

I got a letter saying I didn't meet their criteria.

Anyone received the two QP passes with their card yet?

Anyone received the two QP passes with their card yet?

No. Expect they will come later. I didn't get the letter with the password for Internet banking either. Have rung and asked for a new one.

Did not receive my password either so had to contact them, no passes yet either

Received & activated the card today.

Paid the electricity bill straight away, too.

They allowed me to use my current Macquarie CMA (cash management AC) login / password so there is no issue there for me.

No passes either here.
