anybody know at what point is the Year 2 annual fee is charged - 12 months after activation date (not earlier?).

I recently cancelled my card. I asked for a fee waiver for next year, they said no, however, they would give 750 QF points. I said no thanks.

750 points? Are you kidding? That's the equivalent of offering $7.50.

Take the 750pts wait for it to be posted, then close account and get refund for card.
I've done this before with another card.

Well I'm past the 60 day mark and havent got my first 20K of points but given I completed the full 5K spend on the 13th October may wait until 13th this month to complain. Haven't used the card since I got to the 5K point and when I get the points dont see much ingoing use for it!

Right so I rang today about the letter I received on the 14th November and told put through to Rewards department....they have no record of letter????/
They say I have no 2129 MR points ???
They put me back to main area to confirm that all points going to Qantas.
They are going to ring back after checking.
My Annual fee is due 14th Feb and informed that if I cancel before that date I will not pay the annual fee.
I have cleared the card and the only thing stopping me at the moment is that I have a REFUND due to come onto the card within the next 30 days ahhhhhhhhhh!
They informed me that if I cancel the card then they can refund any credit via cheque or I think electronic refund......
Anyone trust this to be the case if I cancel the card?
Did anyone get there MR reward letter acknowledged and actually get a voucher?

Second lot of 20k points posted on the 13th Dec. I just called up and cancelled the card. Operator was very cheeky:

He said "Sorry sir all accounts operators are busy, they can contact you back."
I said "How long will it take?"
He said "Within 48 hours"
I said "Thats unacceptable, I want to cancel my account today"
He said "Ok, I can do that for you now sir." (!!!!)

Obviously a tactic for them to avoid closing peoples accounts. Must be some incentive thing about that.

just closed my card with the annual fee due tomorrow.

Despite the problems that many others had, I had no problems getting all the points for utilities, petrol and supermarkets, used one of the Qantas passes and sold another on ebay for $51 so all in all a worthwhile exercise. Now I move onto the next card!!

Earn and burn!!

Update on MR points.
Even though I have a letter stating I have 2000+ points, I have been informed via a phone call it was sent in error and I do not have the points :(
Rang a person I have as contact to enquire if Annual fee can be waived. Informed that they will review my account and let me know later today or tomorrow morning.
I think about $80K(includes ATO payments)
Probably get offered reduced, if nothing due to initial response above.

Seems a lot of people got such a letter about some points. Try redeeming them online. It worked for SWMBO.

No call back the next morning....see if hear tomorrow about another year fee free.

My card expires soon, but I booked an international flight with Qantas few months ago.
Was hoping to use the insurance for the trip (as an aside, yet to check the T&C and what the allowances etc are .. has anyone used their policy - and had to claim something?), but my card would be cancelled.

How does the insurance work in this sense? If I booked the flight using the card, but the card is then cancelled ... can I still claim and use the policy?

Anyone else had any luck with them waiving few for year 2?

amazing how so many have had problems getting them to contact you. i've got an incomplete application because i didn't answer a question properly (a ridiculous question at that: ie. please nominate the name of a family or friend not living with you for no reason whatsoever - i wrote: 'i have no friends'), mainly because i think this question serves no purpose at all in the application process). now they're persistently calling me, leaving voicemail messages and i got an email as well to complete my application. oh and they are also doing all this AFTER the expiry of the points offer i was after. coincidence? i think not. does anyone know if an incomplete application will do anything to credit rating? i seriously doubt it. i'm expecting eventual rejection but sounds like this mob could just leave it open for a significant period of time in desperation.

Hey will more than likely still do a Veda credit check, so yes, it probably will affect your credit rating.
