Macquarie Visa Platinum - 40,000 points for $5000 spend - $99 1st Yr Fee

No 20,000 points love for me on 13 December. On activation, I confirmed that I was eligible for both the sign on bonus and the second 20,000 points once I have reached the minimum spend.

Quite alarming really, how easy it is - with my spending patterns - to get to $5,000 in a few weeks!

No lounge passes here
Do they come out automatically or do you have to request them

I got my card in October, hit the 5000 spend within a week or two. I got my lounge passes on Monday. None of the bonus points have been credited yet though. Have not chased up on either but will get on to them about the points after the new year if they haven't been credited by then.

And now my 2 x QF lounge passes have just shown up (with no QF spend).

So for this little black duck, Macquarie have met all their obligations without too much fuss.
The only thing I can't get them to do right is change from physical address to a postal address. Just never seems to stick.

Today my 1st spend posted to QFcorrectly (excluding points for the actual $99 CC fee itself)
A paper bill arrived to correct postal address.
So now everything is done.

Got my card Nov 25. Dec 8th credited 20,000 points. Haven't spent $5000 yet but received my lounge passes Dec 16th. Pretty lucky haven't had to phone up customer service to chase up.

Got card 10th Dec, Spent 11th Dec, +20,000 points on 26th December.
No lounge passes and ive met the $5k spend already (but still waiting on 2nd lot of 20,000)

Met my $5K spend early last week, and 20K posted today

Now just to get the lounge passes

Not that happy with Macquarie, applied for my wife some time ago and she finally got the card last few days. When she activated got her to confirm the deal, and they said oh, no you had to be approved by the 13th and guess what, she was approved on the 14th. Great they can delay the approval so they dont have to pay.

However she is on a 5pt per $1 deal, just need to find out how much for, we will run that up and then cancel! Cant actually find a link for this anywhere.

Took about 2 weeks after application to get a response, they needed some financials and I sent them off the same day. Card arrived about a week later.

First tranche of 20k points arrived about 3 weeks after my first spend. Second 20k arrived about a week after I hit the 5k spend.

The whole process was fairly painless but the Mac online banking is a bit cr*p compared with other sites I'm familiar with. There doesn't seem to be any way of tracking your QFF points earn save for a single number (which I can't reconcile against my spend, its close to the $1:1pt but doesn't seem to include any 2:1 for Qantas spend. Also, Visa has no real rewards program, no bonus partners (when earning QFF points) or at least it sux compared to Amex. But like I suspect many of you, it is a decent "non-Amex" backup card. Will almost certainly not retain if the fee is not waived next year. I also intend to switch to Mac rewards to get the bonus partners once I have received all of the initial Qantas bonus points/passes.

Still waiting for the QP passes.... but not sure what I will do with them, could be a post in the "free to a good home" coming up :)

Almost no end to the issues I had signing up for this card. I also signed up for another card (from Westpac) at the same time and the difference in the two sign up processes was unbelievable. Westpac was (literally) 3 days from signup to card in my hand. Macquarie was easily 7 weeks (the stuffups were numerous and significant, all on Macquarie's part).

Needless to say, as soon as I get my 40k pts and QC passes (for friends/relos), the card is being cancelled. I'm also considering (if I can be bothered) writing a pleasant but factual letter to their head of Card Services, just to let him know how truly bad the experience was in comparison to their competition.

Cheers,
- Febs.

It is worth trying to challenge them on this. I applied at the end of Nov, didn't hear anything from them until Dec 20. At that point I said I did not want to proceed as it was past the 13th and I was only applying to have the offer. The person I was speaking to said it had been extended until Dec 31.

My lounge passes showed up pretty quickly. Probably two weeks after my first 20,000 points

My lounge passes arrived
Now I have the two lots of 20K points and passes
I'll think about cancelling in a month or two.
