Great...cannot wait for this drama...Received my approval letter today after 1 whole month...now a possible argument? seriously?!
Well yes but writing a quick letter really isnt that hard and can be very effective.

card received, activated today, QFF number given, confirmed the 20,000/20,000 promo, confirmed.... was easy. Will eat my previous words *MUNCH*

Just a question for the applicants whom did get approved - for the people whom are PAYE employees - did Macquarie Bank ring your employer to determine your length of employment and salary? Or was the payslip enough for them?

Did they charge you $50 for joining Qantas Rewards?

I submitted the 40k QFF - $5k spend application on Aug 7th, received an email on Sept 2nd requesting a payslip, I sent a payslip on Sept 3rd. The payslip finally made it to the Macquarie “approvals” dept on Sept 9th, I emailed them asking for a status update on Sept 12th, no response. I called them yesterday (Sept 17th) requesting a status update, they said they have been trying to contact the HR dept at my place of employment to confirm the payslip I sent to them.

According to the customer service operator on the phone, the card approvals area had no luck in reaching the right person to make this confirmation, therefore the application went into the “too difficult basket”. Meanwhile my application has been sitting idle, they didn’t bother to contact me in order to let me know this had occurred. I was originally told the payslip was enough for the application to proceed through to a yes/no determination, now they want to talk to the HR dept, this looks like it will add on a week or 2 before they even get around to proceeding with my application.

*sigh*

This is my first encounter with Macquarie Cards, and to me it seems like a bit of a … Dogs Breakfast shall we say.

Frustration … Rising.

*update*

I just called Macquarie again to follow up on the application, I was informed the 40k QFF - $5k spend promo has ended, it ended on Sept 16. >>Alarm Bells<<

I told the operator this was the entire reason I applied for this card, also why I submitted the application on Aug 7 to allow for sufficient time for Macquarie Card to complete their processing! I requested she put me through to her supervisor.. Which she did.

The supervisor arrives on the line, I explain the situation, she responded that my application is still in being processed and no determination has been made yet. So I asked about the 40k QFF promo, all she could offer was that she would escalate that with their marketing dept, however no promises or guarantees that I will receive the promo if I am approved for the card! What the?!

The supervisor has now requested that I give her 3 business days to chase up my application and whether it’s been approved or declined. Then, IF it’s been approved she will follow up on the possibility that they will still give me the QFF points promo. Dear oh dear … What a mess.

I expect a phone call from Macquarie Cards by the end of this week.

Oh. I won't be holding my breath about my application then :(

Suggest you go back to this link and PDF the page before it is removed, clearly not Sept 16th that was advertised.

Macquarie MPW Qantas Frequent Flyer exclusive offer

Then say you will go to FOS and the ACC for misleading and deceptive conduct. My suggestion is spend the 10 minutes putting it in writing you will save time in the long run over speaking with CSR's who clearly dont have much of a clue.

I received a phone call last week to ask for a payslip, which I emailed within 15 minutes. My card arrived yesterday and has now been activated.

Fairly painless, although a little slow.

My one complaint is that the credit limit is a little low, but no reason one can't top it up with BPay.

Was just starting to pull that information together, then the phone rang.

Lo and behold it was Macquarie Bank, this time someone further up the chain calling me to apologise for the delay in processing my card application. The chap told me he will looking after things and will contact the HR dept here at my work this afternoon, hopefully he will get what he needs (confirmation of salary, ongoing employment, ect). I assured him that the guys at my end will confirm these details once he calls with the request.

While I had him on the line I protested the earlier claim of the 40k QFF bonus points promo having ended, which essentially leaves me (and everyone else still waiting) high and dry. I politely argued that my application has been in their system for precisely 6 weeks without a resolution of being approved or declined, at that point the call ended as he asked for time to confirm what he could do about this situation.

It wasn’t long, maybe 5 mins and then he called back to let me know in this case they will extend the promo offer if I am approved for the card – Which he said will happen as soon as they obtain the needed details from the HR dept.

At this point, three things need to occur.
1. Macquarie need to speak with the HR dept at my place of employment.
2. My card application is approved (hopefully).
3. Confirmation I will receive the 40k bonus QFF points promotion in writing.

At least this way I will have something to work with if it all goes pear shaped, I will be very irritated if I do spend on the card only to find out later there are no bonus QFF points to be had.

I came home today to find a nice fat black envelope with card and associated bumpf. You bewdy. Thanks to the thread starter. Thanks to the suggestion that I understate my income...I have no idea if that was did it or not, but I have been refused by Macq before, and I did little different this time.
I may be a bit late for the introductory bonus, but, shrugs shoulders: you cannot have too many credit cards (please note that it IS possible for some people at some stages of life to have too many credit cards and my rather flippant remark applies only to me)

6 months, with still no internet or phone banking - mines about to close.

Some good news from me

I received my card on 17Sept

Activated it 18Sept - but the operator cannot tell if I am on this promotion, and suggested me to email [email protected] with the screenshot
I used the card that afternoon online and received a call asking me for authorisation - I told them that it was me and I would use it again on that particular merchant

I used the card again last nite 19Sept on the same online merchant and this morning 20Sept received another call asking me about the transaction - which I told them it was me and told them about the conversation I had previously on that merchant and hope they don't call me again on that merchant. The operator has also provided some good news and confirmed that I am on that promo for 40k QFF points :D

Now I need to clock up AUD5k on the card

Only outstanding issue is no ATM PIN yet :(

Sorry, unsure of your point here unless it was just to make obvious none of these state any September date?

The post I was quoting said that saving the screenshot from the link could help.

Unfortunately, I have to disagree.

I don't see how saving the link would help, given the terms and condittions of the 40,000 points include being 'approved for a Mac Visa Platinum Card by 31/8/13'.

If someone has been approved in September (the relevant person quoted by the person I quoted had not yet been approved on 18 September), then, per the link that, they would not be entitled to points. Screenshotting the link thus doesn't seem particularly useful - indeed, could be detrimental.

Wow… Finally.

After scaling lofty peaks, traversing fiery chasms and then defeating the end boss, I’ve been approved for the card.

During a phone call this morning to Macquarie it was confirmed, followed up by an email outlining the details of that confirmation. I think someone there was probably screaming “Hurry up and approve this application, we are tired of the constant phone calls!”. The card is being sent out today.

1st world issues, I know, but it wasn’t an easy process for me to obtain this card - It should have been an extremely easy task.

Pretty simple, I work in the credit world myself and know that taking 6-8 weeks to approve an application is way beyond the immediate to 48 hours that is standard in the industry.A reasonable person making an application in early August would be entitled to expect that they would have approved or declined it within a couple of days and that's the case I will be making to FOS and ACCC. And yes, my credit expereince is largely in the area of compliance so I have a pretty good idea how they will react.

If they argue that 6 weeks is reasonable this in my mind support my argument with the ACC. The headline is "Earn up to 40,000 Bonus Points" and the first two lines you highlight are in the body of the ad, the 30August date is in the fine print. Therefore the case I will be making is that they first made this ad available in early August, I applied early August, if their own internal processes make it impossible to actually be approved in the time period it is pretty easy to make the case that I have applied for this card under what are false and misleading circumstances.

FOS takes things on best practice, 6-8 weeks to approve a CC is so far oustdie best practice as to be laughable so pretty confident this will work too.
